The real cause: "...didn't realize how severe his hits were because he was drunk." I believe substance abuse has played a part here. I don't otherwise comprehend how adolescents cannot realize the dangers of physical punishment?
Yeah, it doesn't have much to do with Mortal Kombat. He didn't try and use a Final Fatale or anything. They should just blame alcohol, or any hand-to-hand combat movies or games, they are all pretty much the same.
This kind of reminds me when me and my friends would fight in Mortal Kombat style. Or at least tried. That game was the best fighting game ever. Ah... Good times.... Just let's hope that stupid people like this don't ruin those times.
Kind of makes you wonder where the parents are when all of this happens.
They're likely the ones that are blaming the gaming industry in the first place; after all, precious little Timmy wouldn't have beat up his friends if he hadn't been playing God of War or Grand Theft Auto, right?
Honestly though, I think people are just looking for a scapegoat and the gaming industry just happens to be there. C'est la vie.
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Agreed. It's not the video games, it's the people who are stupid. That person doesn't need jail time, he needs to be locked up in an assylum.
i think this article is biased... nowhere did it cite where the kids mentioned mortal kombat... and i dont think they even blamed the game
and my god that is so sad
but i remember this happened quite a while ago and yahoo news and some other places did blame mortal combat.

Haha, twist!
All people have different measures of bad judgement.
Wow, I missed something. Do you have link?
Idiots, the lot of them.
