Blizzard is working on a brand new MMORPG to top WoW, if that’s possible? The chances that blizz will create a new franchise as basis for this is not very likely, as we all know that the Diablo game series won’t end at Diablo 3 (only the trilogy we are currently experiencing, and therefore gameplay aswell). Now, I start looking at the bigger picture, not just from a diablofan’s point-of-view. Blizzard’s greatest stake in the gaming industry is quite literally WoW. So when the bigwigs at actiblizz sit around and talk about cash they most definitely talk about WoW (which is fair). Any company in the world is a company for one reason and one reason only: Money. If activision-blizzard wants more money what are they gonna do? Make another MMO. My guess would be: “Sanctuary”. Screw the ‘World of-‘ bullcrap. Blizz wants to create something that’s fresh and innovative and easy to build on, and not in anyway a reference to WoW, besides, “Sanctuary” on its own is quite an awesome name for a game. Let’s take a look at timelines: WoW was announced six months (2001) before Warcraft III’s release back in 2002, and was ultimately launched in 2004. Can the same be applied for Diablo 3. Hypothetical timeline: Sanctuary was announced six months (2009) before Diablo 3’s release (2010), and was ultimately launched in 2011. A seven year shelf-life for WoW? Okay, we all know blizz doesn’t stick to any given schedule, but that’s why it’s hypothetical. Does that mean that by 2018 we will have “Galaxy of Starcraft”.
It is the most logical step to take in terms of money-making. Which is why Blizzard has never really bothered to take on console-gaming. That would be a bit much on their plate.
If a company wants to take itself seriously, especially a Multi-Million dollar entertainment company bent on taking over the online world, would they not set up a long-term business plan such as this, where making money out of existing franchises by making them all MMO’s is so obviously lucrative.
this is not a news thread, magistrate. and i wasn't planning on revealing something, just shared what i thought we could expect from the future of blizz...
That MMORPG is a long time away. The only reason why Blizzard would release Starcraft II and Diablo III so close together is because they are different genres. Releasing two games from the same franchise so close together is just a way to kill the current game. You have to wait until it dies down itself.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
World of Warcraft is called World of Warcraft, yet it takes place in at least 3 different worlds. Azeroth, Draenor, and there is one I am forgetting. We haven't been to the Burning Legion Home World yet (so that is a fourth world), yet like I said, the game is still called World of Warcraft, despite multiple worlds existing.
It's not World of Azeroth its World of Warcraft, Warcraft as in the franchise, just like you might say world of Star Wars, or world of Zelda (there is more than just one world in Zelda too)
You are not actually referring to a single planetary globe when you say "world of" you are referring to the entire franchise, including any and all secondary planets present in the franchise. It more like a phrase.
In the world of Diablo, humans are the only playable race, whereas in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, you can be anything from an Orge to an Elf to a Dwarf and almost anything in between.
And just because one MMO from Blizzard has the words "World of [insert franchise name here]" in the title, doesn't mean another will.
Diablo: The Sin War
Starcraft: Kerrigan's Crusade
Not a "World" and/or "of" in sight.
A Starcraft MMO has always seemed interesting to me, though there would only be a handful of races, 5 at the most if I can recall, classes would be modified versions of the units, it's hard to see how it would work as the races are so very different, to do not have exact copies of the units, I Terran warrior (possibly called a marine) is not the Protoss equivalent of a Warrior (possibly called a Zealot). But if anyone could get it to work, I assume it would be Blizzard.
I wouldn't mind a MMO based in the world of Diablo, even if there is but one race, human.
The deterant for me in regards to MMOs is of course fees, I still play WOW, so paying for more than one MMO, even with game cards, is a lot of money. And my second deterrant, is lack of interesting quests and an abundance of the same crap over and over again. There are so many of those stupid Fed-EX and Slaughterfest quests in WOW, almost so to the point where I am sure that that is al there is. Hopefully, if BLizzard puts out a second MMO, the quest thing has had some work done on it to add greater variety. The DIablo quests were very interesting to play, even if at their base level they were Fed-Ex of Slaughterfests, but it didn't fell like they were when you did them. I can't say they would do away with fees, as I can't say for sure if they would or wouldn't. No company is going to give up a huge horde of cash without a very good reason.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I replayed Starcraft over the last few days completed it last night.
Does anyone remember the bonus level mentioning the Zerg/Protoss hybrids?
Maybe that could be the basis for a Starcraft MMO. In Starcraft 2 it could explain more of the story of the hybrids and how they escape captivity to become their own civilization and then the 3 races in SC MMO could be Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. Of course I'm not sure how you can PLAY Zerg character's unless they're all infested kind of like Kerrigan.
I think it'd be pretty interesting. I hope to see more about the hybrids in SC2.
I belive one day Blizzard will build switch there HQ from where it is now to the top of Mt.Everest where they will TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!! YOU GATTA STOP THEM THERE GOONA KILL US ALL!!

I love MMORPG games. The more detailed the characters can be, the more I enjoy them. Other than the Diablo series, I also play EverQuest. What I like about EQ is the phenomenal amount of content and how that content changes over time with patches and expansions. I like that I can develop tailoring skills, cooking skills, and OMG! I love to go sit by the water and fish for a while, make me a campsite, cook me some grub, and just chill. You never run out of stuff to do!
There have been some folks who returned to EQ saying that WoW just didn't have the vast content that EQ had. They said it was much better for graphics, but they preferred the content that EQ offered.
If they made a Diablo MMO, and offered a package where you could play all the games for a reasonably lowered price, I would be playing Diablo and WoW. I would love to see them unleash Sanctuary.
I'm going to download Star Wars Galaxies from Sony tonight. I've talked to some of the people who play it and they say it is one of the most intricately detailed games on the market as far as characters go. I guess I am soon to see the truth of that.
We already can see what Sanctuary looks like through D2 and D3. Yes its not complete like how WoW has theirs, Making Diablo into a MMO is pointless you aready play as a single character, you aready have missions, plus Diablo has kick ass storylines if Diablo becomes a MMO the storyline is going to be shitty.

World of Warcraft, not Warcraft: World.

I think they'll choose a different naming convention for other MMO's besides <planet/space> of <franchise>.
