See, I really like dogs. Especially small to medium sized dogs. I had a Yorkshire Terrier once but that was about six years ago that I last had him. Then I had to give him up because I was almost never home to take care of him. But I gave him to some nice old people who had lots of other old retired dogs and they took really good care of him till he died.
Now I'm thinking lately that I may be in a good position again to adopt a dog. My mom doesn't really like dogs in the house, but I reckon I will be moving out sometime this summer and I'm hoping I can take the dog with me. I came close recently to getting this ten year old Pug named Buddy (Of course I would've renamed him probably). He was this old dog with many missing teeth that liked watching tv. But he recently got adopted on a trial adoption so I probably won't be able to get him anymore. I'm looking for an older dog cause they're easier to manage and more moderately tempered. And most people don't want older dogs so it might be easier to find one this way.
Any breed recommendations? I know a lot of smaller dogs can be yippy barking loud dogs, but I know there are some that aren't as bad.
Plus, here you all can talk about your own dogs if you wish. How many you own. What breeds are they. Things like that.
You cant go wrong with a lab. I have a black lab/akita named pal, hes pretty smart and can tell what I want him to do, he is loyal, docile around people, and he isnt as smelly as most dogs.
Well that sucks, heavy allergic? (Strange how you can be allergic to cats while not being allergic to dogs)
I'm not allergic at all to dogs. But yeah, if a cat scratches me, it will get really puffy and itchy and my eyes get all itchy. Just getting their fur on me makes me start to itch.

I really like labs as puppies. But as they get older, I find their personalities a little boring. Plus, tons of people have labs. And I'm not interested in a bigger dog anyway.
We have a chocolate lab here at my house who's about 6 years old I think. His name's Bert and he's really lovable. The only thing is is he's got mites around his ears so he gets really stinky and itchy and the land lord (who owns him) won't take him to the vet to get him fixed up.
As for the smaller breeds of dogs, I think you should get another Yorky. Pugs are so slobbery and most of the other small dogs just get annoying with all their yipping.
I have a chow/lab mix who is a lot of fun and a mastif/boxer mix, he is massive but very enjoyable. I had a collie/sheppard mix but I had to put him down recently (cancer/arthritis/old age).
I adopted older dogs as well, except the chow/lab mix, got him as a pup.

I grew up on a farm, so my family had "working" dogs to help with the cattle, though they were good family dogs, too. We had an Australian Shepard and two Border Collies that were great with people. The female Border Collie tended to be a bit more aggressive, though, but that's just how she was bred (she got a lot better after being with our family). Both types are good dogs, but they do need a good place to run around, as I'm sure most medium and large dogs do. This was quite awhile ago, though, so unfortunately, they've all died from whatever causes.
Since my parents are getting older now, my parents have decided to have smaller dogs. Last summer my mom bought a Jack Russell Terrier puppy and a young Lhasa Apso/Jack Russell, and she absolutely loves them. The Jack Russell can be a handful sometimes (he doesn't like to listen when he's called, and he brings random dead things into the house, lol), but the Lhasa Apso/Jack Russell is extremely well-behaved. She's ready to play when you are, or if you're in the mood to just lounge around, she'll do that to. Neither one of them are that "yippy" either; in fact, I hardly ever hear the Lhasa Apso bark, unless the Jack Russell starts in for a bit first.
So, I guess I'd recommend a Lhasa Apso (pure or mixed breed) if you're looking for a smaller dog.
I have a border-collie/blue heeler. Shes loyal and knows what we want her to do(she doesn't even struggle when shes going into the bath). The only problem is shes paranoid about everything.
Ohhh, I own a toy poodle. (living, breathing, called a 'toy' because she's so small).
Poodles are soooo good. They don't have a smell and they don't shed their hair at all. They are practically like little lambs lol. Seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if thats how they were first created, by having a dog and a sheep mate lol. Not that it would actually work...
But yeah, they are really smart, easy to train, and act much more like cats than dogs. They should be classed as a cat, really, lol. So, if you prefer to get a cat, a toy poodle sounds like a good option. I think you can get teacup poodles now too (even smaller).
The only thing is that you have to go to a groomer to get their hair cut (cause it doesn't fall out). But you don't have to get their hair cut like those gay pink french poodles. you can just get it cut normally.
i have a german short haired pointer... yes it does point at the birds. she is the most clam dog when not botherd, and a great friend. when you play with her she gets right in the mood right away. prob the best of 3 dogs that i have had. sheepdog and lab were my other 2. if i were to reccommend a dog it would be the pointer, but they can be a bit costly.

I'm surprised no one made a thread about this. But the question is obvious: Which animal do you like more?
I like cats more. Not as much stress.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
@Doppel
I would like cats more only I'm allergic to them. And so many cats play in my yard all day anyway it's like I practically own them.

One of my collie dogs barks a lot when we send her outside too... to do her thing.

Don't own any myself though. Can't afford it.
