I'm absolutely ecstatic for Star Trek XI. JJ Abrams amazes me. The only problem I see with it so far is Matt Damon being Kirk. I'm not a big fan of him, and all other movies aside, I just can't see him playing someone that legendary.
If anyone is interested, I'm part of a small online Star Trek Simm that has just kicked off (RPG basically). It's fun and the people there are awesome, but unfortunately we currently have a very low user population. PM me if you're interested / want to join.
There are many Star Trek games I've yet to play. I haven't had as much time for games lately. I really fun one I own though is Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. It's one of those games where you walk around and figure stuff out. But you also get to fight other ships. It's great cause it's kind of pedestrian yet really fun to play anyway.
I did not know that you liked Star Trek Carloseus. I am pretty pissed, because they postponed the movie until July of next year. I still think it should come out December 25th, but they just had to postpone it.:(

The graphics are very cartoonish. But it has the voices of the entire original cast. Which is neat considering Deforest Kelly And James Doohan are now passed away.
But basically what you do is go on away missons to planets and you have to look at items, use tricorders, phasers, pick things up and combine them with others. So it's similar to the older Lucasarts games where you're walking around and solving puzzles but there is also occasional action in the game.
I've gotten it to work on newer machines though. Sometimes there are sound issues, but if you've got DOS Box or some other compatibility program, usually it works fine. I bet you could maybe find it on eBay for less than the shipping would be.
It's best not to be put off by the graphics. Only a rash youth would immediately dismiss it on such grounds. The missions really are fun. If you're a fan of Star Trek, it includes all the classic moral themes of Star Trek in each mission. And there is actually a degree of open-endedness where you can decide on certain choices of dialogue and actions. And it wouldn't be complete of course without the expendable ensign in the red shirt.
I have a lot of fond memories playing this game. It's kind of a nice comforting game on a rainy day.
The release for the MMO was expected to be in 2009. The game itself seems pretty cool if they do what the website suggests. Everyone has a small ship, but to operate a large one requires that you have a minimum amount of people on the bridge and in engineering.
I look forward to this game making it.

That is the thing with Wikipedia. They are not always right, you may think they are but they are not.
And plus you said you read it ages ago, so they may have changed it since then.
