Well duh, stating the obvious ^^

every class is viable in far and close range combat...

What? I don't see how a ranged Barb will be a viable build. Same for Monk. What they both do have is the ability to quickly close the distance between them and their target.

The Wizard can sure damage targets at melee range, but that would also mean to take a great risk because of the lower defense/health.

The WD is the only one that can do both since he is a hybrid. Spells for range, summons for melee.

for those who are positive the fifth class is a ranged weapon specialist, how might blizzard avoid falling into pitfalls like the guided and multi arrow that they had to nerf eventually anyways? any creative ideas for ranged weapon skills that could really instill some new life into an arguably archaic rpg staple

i think its going to be a lagolas class. uses a bow but can also kick ass with swords and fist wapons. :D

Not sure, probably why they haven't release anything yet.

I still believe the fifth class has stealth & range speciality skills.
The class should have close combat skills as well, high dps or massive criticals, etc...
Ideally, it should be a Rogue/Ranger/Pathfinder/Hunter archetype that should play differently from the other classes.
Something that requires more finesse than the Barbarian or Monk.

Give the specialist aura based skills that magnify the range damage, slow enemies down, etc... instead of arrow augmentation. Limit the aura radius and have abilities given to enemies that negate specific auras to spice up the challenge. I'm sure Blizzard will come up with something great.

    My 2 cents

Yes, blizzard usually knows what they're doing. Hence the unarguably hellish wait. :X I look forward to the unveiling. But my first love has always been the Barbarian. It's been woven into my DNA.

I'm 99% sure that it will be a trapsin//bowazon combination. If it isn't I will be surprised.

I tend to agree. Blizzard should not be looking to reinvent the wheel here for rpg roles. They already have a holy warrior, the monk, so i dont think the paladin is a likely choice for the 5th class. The monk also satisfies fast paced melee class that is lightly armored, so a rogue or assasin class would also have too much crossover.

Perhaps a fusion of the hunter and the druid? A bow user that can also shapeshift and command a single powerful pet?

I'd hope it's not pure ranged. A rogue archetype is very much needed, but I hate pure bow classes, personally. I end up feeling like I'm playing an arcade shooter game, rather than Diablo.
I'd prefer a class that could go several different ways, maybe wield daggers or swords, or use a bow, or something else.

Or, what i'd prefer even more is something that no one has thought of. With the bow, it's easy to figure that it'd be a bow class or a rogue, but I suppose it's what they do with the archetype that really makes it and hell knows there are enough class ideas to sink a battleship in any of the archetype roles.

Very interesting to see what they do with it :)
Pain may be all in the mind, but I still smell burning flesh.
