But to say that they have already Asian influences in the game, I think that is a weak argument.
It seems that the Diablo series has implied an Asian-culture moreso than a middle-eastern or meso-american one, except for the settings themselves. In other words: in terms of items and character classes there has been more Asian references than either of the aforementioned ones. I see the Jade Tan Do but not Moctezuma's Jaguarknife
Barbarian: Very strong furious melee, using dual weapons or two handed. Can use throwing weapons.
"Knight": A bit more on the defensive side, but can be turned into a ranged class as well, depending on the build. Can use two handed knight-type weapons or weapon&shield. Also uses XBows and some European bow types. Maybe even javelins.
"Ronin": Can be chosen between "stealth" and "melee only" when creating your build. Uses fast two handed or dual weapons. Can use long bows and some other ranged weapons unique to him as well.
"Sorceror/ess": Our usual caster who uses directly damaging spells as main source of offense. Has a lot of other spell stuff as well of course. Witch Doctor: Miscellaneous spells like debuffs as well as some damaging spells unique to him (disease). Does also summon creatures.
3 Classes without magic ?!
They allready said the barbarian will be the one and the only one to be mastered (and restricted) to physical attacks. Theorically our next 3 classes will be link to some elements or magical effects.
I was always under the impression that the Assassin was ins some way Asian influenced, considering the shuriken, emphasis on stealth, martial arts and poison she uses I think it's logical to assume she is Sanctuary's counter-part to the Ninja.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
Without magic? In the gameplay video it looks to me that the barbarian is just a brawny mage
How so? Every skill the Barbarian has done makes sense. He slams the ground hard enough so the force travels forward, hence Seismic Slam. Maybe it's because the animation is similar to a "showy" spell, maybe something you would see from a spellcaster?
His stomp, once again, is showing his strength. His leap was already in D2 as well as Whirlwhind.
I don't see how the Barb is even close to a mage at all.
a samurai character would be amazing. that's actually a pretty exciting idea. perhaps it could take the paladin's place? and since they come from an era before guns, it even makes sense historically. (not that history is a major deciding factor, but still...) a samurai could be sort of an agile warrior class, not quite a stealthy class (because of the armor or course)
i would love to play a samurai. the idea seems way more sophisticated than a ninja, which would seem sorta cliche and out-of-place. i just hope no one says "hey, let's throw in a pirate."

The only reasonable characters could be :
Knigts ( including Paladins )
Wizzards ( in form of Sorcerers also )
Assasins
Necromancers
Barberians ( Viking or Nomads form )
Monks
Bards
Demon hunters ( including Dragon slayers )
Nothing else is reasoable for this period.
Period !
Knights? would be sort of a downgrade from the paladin, and too close to the barbarian
Monks, following the D&D style, would be out of the question since they don't wear armor or weapons or...anything, really. there would be no point to playing one since items are a huge focus in diablo games (and rpgs in general)
Bards sound reasonable. i'm sure Blizzard could do something cool with them. perhaps a lot of buffs, debuffs, fear effects, stuff like that
Demon hunters? no. every single class in the game is technically a demon hunter unless all they choose to do do is stand around in town or kill wildlife...

no fucking samurai. its far too specific. it would be like having knights templar in diablo, that would be retarded...
There are Knights Templar in the Diablo universe; they're called "Paladins."
The only real issue with the quoted statement, though, is that the Knights Templar are a specific organization whereas samurai didn't belong to one specific group, just like how European knights belonged to a variety of feudal lords

In D2 almost all the damage the Barbarian did was tied to his weapon. Only thing I can think of that isn't tied to weapon damage and strength is the shout that stunned and did damage. Now it appears Barbarian has a lot of skills that he uses to range minions and skills that -seemingly- don't tie into the barbs strength or weapon damage. I say seemingly because maybe the slam is based on strength stats and/or some piece of equipment. This increase of ranged spells though is certainly a change of pace either way.
You can easily add magic to them just like the Paladin and Amazon. They would definitely have some elemental attacks and magical stuff unique to their style.
When are the mindless "no f'ing samurai !!1!" posts going to stop?..
Ah ok, i said that because you didn't metioned spells and elemental attacks in your samurai, knight and rogue. Still i disagree with the knight. It is too close to the paladin concept.
Also i doubt the Wd will be our only caster.
uruwashii means cultured warrior (basically a scholarly warrior)
uruwashii, I think would be good if this class had elemental skills.
Haha, these names would be hard to pronounce for people not semi-fluent in Japanese. I can pronounce these names fine, but your average Diablo player is going to have a hard time saying these names.
But out of all those, Uruwashii seems to be the best because it would fit nicely into the Diablo universe.
Ninja are not samurai. They're about as opposite as things can possibly be..
That depends on what version of a ninja you are basing that on.
The anime Ninja Scroll, despite it's name, is not about a Ninja at all. It is about a Ronin, a leaderless or wandering Samurai. He never refers to himself as a Ninja, and neither does anyone else. But there are Ninjas in Ninja Scroll, but the are not the main character.
Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls has Ninjas but they act more like Samurai, very few of them have stealthy techniques, they use Katanas, not the shorter Ninja-to that Ninjas use, they have a deep sense of loyalty, honour to both their family and their Lord, Ieyasu Tokugawa, (the guy who took the ninja and made them his personal body guards (he was sick of them trying to kill he so he put them to work for him)). They kill each other in fields, on roads, on boats and in public sight. Hardly "ninja" like.
People watch, or have heard of Naruto right? Their are Ninjas in that. Some of their Genjutsu and Ninjutsu techniques are not very stealthy. Especially some of the harder summoning jutsus. Orochimaru summoning Lord Mundo a giant snake doesn't seem very stealthy, that snake is freakin' huge! And neither in my view is summoning Gama Bunta or summoning Katsui the giant slug.
And the Rasengan is a pretty devastating attack, it can level entire sections of forest and destroy massive boulders.
Not every Ninja is someone hiding in the bushes ready to jump out, or is like that guy in Assassin's Creed is my point.
People do not watch enough anime or read enough manga.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
A vast amount of samurai were actually women, but they usually acted more like guards than actual warriors. This fact helps the samurai assimilate into D3.
Are you sure though? I never heard of that. Wiki says tha wifes of samurai were trained with the naginata just in case theyll have to defend while the samurai is away etc..
Well, what is a samurai but a guardian who serves? They were expected to defend the household during times of war, when the men were at war. They weren't only guardians, there are a few famous women samurai, Tomoe Gozen, Hojo Masako, and Nakano Takeko. Tomoe was a very skilled archer and swordsman (or swordswoman), Hojo rose to power after the death of her husband and became known as the "nun shogun", and Nakano was a skilled naginata user of the 1800s.
I dont realy like the idea of samuri Idk why it just dosent like fit with me I say samuri then I say diablo3 then im like .....thats not a good sounding match. idk im just a phycotic maniac off to get your soul so...idc.

Some researchers classify ninjas as outlaw samurai clans. So ninjas and samurai are not so different at all.
But i don't think a anime like naruto can be reference for anything. However, the Bailisk exemple is great.
