Those above pics could all be of NPCs without corresponding playable classes. In the art trailer, they're all shown right after Cain and Leah, and each of them is only shown in one suit of armor/robes. The one with the dagger looks like a cultist enemy.

I tend to agree with you about the 3rd picture. At first I thought it my be some sort of Zakarum priest without armor equipped. But the picture gives off a bad vibe, so I'm leaning towards a variant of a cultist enemy.
The second picture looks a little too soft to be an enemy. That's just my opinion. She looks like an epic hero to me. Even if she is an NPC, it seems she would be a class specific NPC.
I still prefer the old characters i.e Amazon, Paladin, Necromancer, Assassin, Sorceress and the Druid Class.
Then it'd just be D2 with new maps and quests...
Whay if they really pursued these hybrid ideas? 20 years after Diablo 2...
-The Druid and Sorc married, and had a son / daughter with both of their abilities.
Shapeshifting Sorcerer = Wizard?
- Necro summons a legendary man / woman's spirit from the dead to mentor, and an assassin trains him / her everything she knows.
Assasin who practices Necromancy = The Undead Assassin?
I LOVE the d2 characters.. but we have to compromise here. We cant have all brand new characters.. or it'd be like playing a new game... but we cant keep the same, because people like me want new powers / character-specific items.
I think I'm safe in saying Blizzard with go with the three "pure" classes: melee, ranged, and magic. Barb has filled the melee slot. I'm betting on some kind of Ranger, and Sorceress/Sorcerer being in.
Since the Witch Doctor is a magic-focused hybrid, the other hybrid will be more melee-oriented like the Paladin. I think a Samurai could be really cool.

Another thing I noticed guys, is that, in one of the gameplay/art movies of WWI, one of the blizzard employess says something like "the witch doctor is ONE of the NEW CLASSES we developed".
So, we can be pretty sure that at least another class from d2 has hit the bucket, and most likely, more than just another one.
I, personally, would like to see all new classes. I don't really understand why people get so attached to the old classes. It's a new game, the diablo universe is expanded, and there's a lot of room for new and crazy ideas.
Plus, the blizz guys say in that same video that they created "very cool archetypes" for characters, and, after seeing the witch doctor (which I found pretty cool), I'm very confident the classes will be awesome.
I agree with you, except for the Samurai idea. That would not fit Diablo at all imo.
That's what I would have thought if someone suggested a Witch Doctor class, but I really think Blizzard made a good job at making it fit, lore and design-wise. I saw Xiansai on the world map and thought it would be cool to see a class from all places on the earth.

for all intents and purposes, self polimorphers /stat boosting mages
one second i'm a small lankly lil mage.
next second i'm ***king busting out as a doom knight with maxed out stats.
don't get me wrong i beleave it will take some time to reach that level of skill.
but liek at l1 transfigureation you turn into a fallen one
l2 dark rouge
l3 spear wielding midget
and so on and so on
till ultimately i say it should stop as maby a diablo version of a dragon or something. teh apex of genomancy flyign around incinerateting yoru enimyes form teh sky, whiel they are helpless against yoru attack. just don't forget teh marsh mellos
Actually sounds kinda like a cool idea... if you remember vicent valentine's limit break from final fantasy 7, the skills could be of kind of similar nature...
this could give the character a really cool feel, as he could be very mysterious and depressed in his normal form, but have the ability to violently transform into a variety of beasts.
Coming from LoD, five classes initially seems pretty constricting. Anyone else feel this way?

I think that they could release new classes not through Expansions but through patches, I think classes and items should come through patches and actual content and HUGE updates should come through Expansions.
well, i always wanted to have a character that can create robots, like the necromancer, but than just one kind of robots,
summon them from items, and you get, melee-melee-melee-ranged-ranged-magic so its a melee ranged magic 3:2:1 and thats the summon,
2th you can upgrade them with some more skills, and the second skills, are to upgrade your character to transform into a cyber warrior, with their kinds of upgrades,
and 3th class you should be able to change any ranged weapons into laser guns, and use blos like poison laser, damage laser, and stun laser.
i think the class should be named out of those names:
1 Droid Commander
2 Cyber dude
3 Cyber Summoner
4 Techno Commando
5 Droid master
6 General Grievous
or something like that
Worst.....idea......ever. Why would there be robots in a game that is presumably set in ancient times? Also why Blizzard even bother paying the royalties to Lucas Arts to name a character General Grievous?

?
Ya know I really don't see why they couldn't do that. Just as long as they don't start releasing so many classes that uniqueness is lost.

True enough. Extremities are useful in making points.
I completely agree - but the whole of Act3 in D2 was my least favorite part of all the games. It lost all of the horror effect of the claustrophobic dungeons and scary fields filled with Carver sacrifices - Act3 was very linear. Obviously, my bias is towards the original Diablo offering, so take it with a grain of salt.
The point of this topic is for classes we want, and I have to go with classes that stay to "the spirit of Diablo". True, it is plausible to add the WD, but IMO it dilutes the creep factor of the game.
I'd much rather see a demonic or fallen-angel-type class.
Or technically, with the advent of the new physics, how about a brawler character that uses bodies as throwable objects or usable in moves - perhaps a giant.
A "demonic" or "fallen-angel" class would not be plausible because they would not be working for the good guys. It would make more sense to have a Seraphim type class similar to Sacred. Though this isn't really possible because in the Diablo story Angels can't interfere in the Human realms. Tyrael did and look what that got him.....
What is creepier than a wall of zombies that will tear you limb from limb? Witch Doctor = success. Voodoo people are creepy. Their eyes roll into the backs of their heads as they chant incantations to summon spirits of chaos and destruction.
A psychic type class would be better. They could manipulate the environment with ease rather than picking it up with pure muscle an throwing it all clumsy like.
Most basic classes have already been covered by Diablo 1, diablo 2 and lod. Any other classes would be considered hybrids like the druid. The Vizjeri and Taan mage clans are no longer in existance due to the prime evil's reign. I think they will only make character appearances if Diablo III ends up being a prequel.
Diablo III can't be a prequel. It takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo II.
Firstly i think that the witch docter is going to replace necros, since they seem too simaler.
but id like to see
1. A monk class that uses hand to hand weapons like blessed brass knuckles.
2. A psychic class that can destroy enimies with his mind and force suicide on opponents.
3. A class that is really fast and flashy with flipping and breaks bones to slow down and weakin mobs.
Anyone seen that yet? They say the Witch Doctor does not rule out the possibility of a Necromancer. On a side note I like the new loot system. Even though it has nothing to do with classes, but when a monster dies each player on multiplayer will see items that the others can't therefor no one will race for items anymore.
Rofl on your syg.
Also this looks like a mage/spellcaster, I posted earlier but here it is.
