Me and a friend noticed that different item have different max values of stats. For example: Gloves have a maximum of 300 dexterity, while the upper limit for strength on gloves is 200. The opposite is true for belts.
So we decided to look at what stats fit best with what item, so that we can shop more effectively in the auction house.
Here's how the spreadsheet can help you shop:
Let's say you are looking for two new items, a shield and a chest and that you want to focus on defensive stats. The spreadsheet shows that a chest has relative high amounts of vitality and armor, so you will focus on those two stats when looking for an item.
The shield has a pretty good chance of high %life and also pretty decent bonus armor. Again focusing on those two stats.
This of course leaves you without all resist(among other things), but you could get those on your rings and bracers, because they are more likely to roll relatively high on all resist.
The data is not fully complete, we are lacking a lot of stats, but we picked out the most important ones.
I'm also pretty sure this data can be used to create some interesting graphs or some aid for gear guides, i'm just not quite sure what to add. So please let me know if you have any suggestions or have some interesting data yourself
Thanks! I'd worked out a much less detailed version myself that wasn't anywhere near as useful, just to see the max dexterity (or other stat) possible... I didn't realise different primary stats varied in where their 300 was compared to their 200!
Why the fuck is str capped at 200 while 300 on all other? Fucked up blizz ftw....
Look closer, the items average out to have the same total amount, each class just has different pieces of gear that are more important to them. Some items have 300 STR while 200 for the other attributes, on other items it's the other way around.
The layout is indeed better, i'll see if i find the time and motivation to update it
The point of my sheet is however not so much the max stats as the implications it has for the gear, which is shown in the relative value. The relative value however is mostly pointless i suppose. All resist will always be better then armor, crit better then IAS etc.
Legendary items will include a lot of exceptions, since they often have a special stat that is unique for them. The Seven SIns has the option to roll dexterity trice instead of twice, once as a part of the standard item before additional affixes, once again as a single stat(max 100 for ilvl63) and once in combination with another stat as part of a duo-roll, strength in case of the item you linked.
Edit: This means legendary's aren't included due to the wide array of exceptions it will create.
