Well since all the mobs spawn when the server is created I'm pretty they scale instantly when new characters join.
Could you link me where you've read this? I'm not arguing - I just have a hard time believing that if I activate SK and then 3 parties join that his HP triples or whatever.
It won't matter. If you engage a boss by yourself, no one will be allowed to help you, they will be locked out of the room. If you die, the boss full regenerates and starts over. And I'm pretty positive like D2 it was instant, as soon as someone joined their health multiplied by however many people (or close to).
Not an 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, the SK was a group event ; so you had to click on the door and wait for other players to accept/deny the event (or wait until timeout). Once in there, I'm pretty sure it was impossible for players who had not accepted to enter.
I didn't try though, maybe joining the game, wping and walking through the cathedral would have been enough to allow you to enter to the SK's room during the event...
Seriously, anyone trying to exploit a boss fight or any game related content is for wimps. The true experience comes from learning to beat a game without exploits.

Not a single person that gets world first anything will do it without exploits. Not to say I'm making any sort of run at world first - just thought it was an interesting question and there still doesn't seem to be a consensus on the answer.
They scale instantly, keeping the same % HP as before the player # change. Boss fights can not have additional people join mid fight, but elite mobs could.
A contrived way to exploit this would first assume that:
-a single player has trouble vs. the mob
-the fight would take a relatively long period of time
-that the time cost of keeping people on the bench is worth the additional HP pools and resources
Assuming that, you 'rotate' people through the fight, quickly joining the game in interest, porting to the mob, and going full out while the first person leaves the game, and the 3rd gets ready to join. In this manner, each person that rotates through has fresh resources, and CDs, while the mob has the scaling of only 1-2 people at a time.
Well if mobs don't get updated instantly on screen, they probably won't drop more loots either. But lame try I gotta say.
Also you obviosly trying to get more money with this exploit, but I would think twice before doing it. Because you are then earning real money illegaly, gl hf.

There IS a consensus, you cannot join a boss fight while it's in progress.

To me this seems like too much trouble to go to. Besides the fact that you have to interrupt others from their leveling/grinding progress.
Simply saying its too much hassle to be an effective exploit
I agree, Blizzard has done a good job limiting the potential for exploits.

I'm with you on being locked out on boss / event fights.
But help me understand how if mobs don't scale instantly how that doesn't translate to fantastic leveling possibilities in areas where you have mass mobs.

Player 1 herds mobs - 3 players join - wipe - repeat.
