Hey guys.I've never read any diablo books and now I am thinking to read them before the game come out. What do you think should I buy all books or just the book of cain for a nice recap of the story?

If you just want a recap and get up to date on the current state of the lore, then the DiabloWiki.com - Book of Cain Book of Cain is definitely the one you want to get.

If you want some additional lore and an in-depth look at what happened during the DiabloWiki.com - Sin War Sin War, try the Sin War novels, starting with DiabloWiki.com - Birthright Birthright.

The other books you could check out if you want to, but they're not considered canon.
DiabloWiki.com - PlugY PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I've read just a few pages of the first Sin War book, and I have to say I think it's horribly written. It's to an annoying degree actually. I'm not the most well read person, but I am an ESL teacher and I guess writing style really affects me when I leaf through a book. (Not referring to the story, I have no idea what happens.)

I love Diablo, but I guess I'm not enough of a fanboy to actually dive into the books. It's like driving uphill on a gravel road in a Model T.

Sadly I have to agree with Nuggetz. Started reading into the first Sin War book Birthright, and it's not particularly engaging to read. It's as if I'm reading a text book. Maybe I'm expecting too much since the last book I read was The Hobbit. But it's still rather dully written, the emotional context has no detail so it makes me feel distanced from the characters.

Does anyone know if his later books are written with more detail, or not?

The books are basically glorified fanfics. They're not awful but not great as literature. If you want Diablo stuff, read them.

The Blizzard novels in general are all pretty superficial. I've read all of them apart from a few more recent ones. Don't expect deep characters and well written plotlines. It's more like background info for the games, poured into a chronologically correct story.

That doesn't necessarily make them bad, they're nice and easy novels if you want catch up on the game's lore. But again, don't expect deep engagement.

So why is the Moon of the Spider book so rare? :( It isn't even sold in the Blizzard store. The cheapest new copy on Amazon is $100, used $20 unless I get the ebook, which I don't want. Other sites, I've looked cheapest was a copy for $50 used! Maybe I'll check out ebay.

Edit: No copies on Ebay at all!

It's out of print I believe. I'd suggest getting a pdf of it if you really want to read it. Just google moon of the spider pdf and it should be the first link.

It's a bit crazy that they would stop making it. I'd consider it one of the better books based in the world of sanctuary

I was lucky to find the last copy of Moon of the Spider at the local comic store. It had been sitting there for 4 years :P

It was quite dull though. Only Zayl made it interesting :)

It makes me sad. Books are the one things I HATE going digital f or. Music, movies, games. Perfectly fine, but there is something about books that I need the physical paper in front of my hands. Reading it on a laptop/e-reader/tablet just isn't the same. :(
