I'm going to post the Images so you can compare them.

the meteor - to me it looks like clearly someone is riding it... but thats just me.

first impact - the blue lights... do they maybe look like the ones seen
on this guy... to me it does.

Well the blue light could also be this angels wings.

yes it could if there was more blue to the fire ball... but there wasn't so to me it seems like the other angel, who could be Imperius, is more likely to be the one riding, or even being that meteor.
i think that the color of his wings fits in with the color of the meteor much more than tyrael's wings do.

Either way I think Imperius has come to Sanctuary to exact his own form of "justice" or Tyrael has been thrown out of Heaven for interfering with mortal affairs.

I just see a meteor in the first pic. Can you please circle the person "riding" it for me?

I see the blue lights in the second pic. Don't know what to make of that.
The sanctity of this place has been fouled.

There is something that has been nagging me for a bit. Do we have any other info on Trag-Oul and his actual influence over the world of Sanctuary? I beleive that if there are beings above the heavens and the burning hells which we do know, as seen in the sin war books when trag-oul tries to intervene but is stopped by other "guardians". Since they made a point to bring this up in the books and the books being our new lore foundation could it be that these guardians could or maybe trag-oul make an appearance.

Well I think it's a bit early for that. We're just now having the angels make a big appearance in game. I think the "guardians" will stay out of it as much as possible. It's a possibility though. Interesting thought.

It's not Imperius in the meteor because Cain and her assistant would be dead...

Well we don't know EXACTLY how powerful the angels are. I haven't read much of the books but I remember the fight between Tyrael and Baal in the cinematic, that wasn't too impressive.

Maybe Imperius was aiming for some destination below the church, and the girl just happened to be there.

You are adding holes in your theory =/

Tyreal was not strong because the worldstone was still there.

Heaven has decided and voted that Sanctuary would live on, so Imperius would be a rebel to do something as destroy the mortal plane

That is an interesting thought. What if the council didn't side on destroying Sanctuary...but Imperius' fiery temper and hatred of Sanctuary could be stretched no thinner and he rebels....taking his army of angels with him...

That's what I was thinking as a possible theory.

How does that add any hole to my theory? A theory is just a theory, especially at this point with very little given information.

Is it stated somewhere canon that when the worldstone was destroyed the angels got more powerful on Sanctuary?

I thought it hid Sanctuary and limited their time being there but I didn't think it effected their power really.

Ignore the DNA strand or whatever it is, but does that not look like a sword and a cross, also its a lot harder to distinguish when it's made out of light.

Great theory! To me, it looks like the angel shown in the cinematic is inside the cathedral. It seems quite plausible that it is Imperius coming to shut Sanctuary down, as it were.

I considered the 'dimensional' traveling thing and, while it does make sense, the 'Hell' in Diablo has always been below or under the earth, no? Heaven would be above. So I think its still feasible that an angel could be the meteor, whether or not of his own accord.

That would make for a great multi-threaded epic storyline with a power struggle in both Heaven and Hell, while trying to save Sanctuary and wondering if you are on the right side.

Well the Archangel Yaerius is not part of the Council which Tyrael and Imperius are in. It's believed (among fans) that Yaerius is an 'evil' or 'corrupted' Angel because his introduction of the Zakarum religion lead to a lot of fanatical slaughterings and murders which would put it in the category of bad rather than good.

To put this into perspective, I want to underline that Imperius and some of the other Archangels wanted to destroy all of Sanctuary.

Going to Sanctuary and trying to forcibly convert humans into "the Light" should actually be considered more in line with Tyrael's teachings than anyone elses. He may not enjoy the way it's done, but it -was- successfull.

As for my own guesstimations.. I do think that Imperius and the others cast Tyrael out. Tyrael was already trying the limits of what the heavens would allow. Destroying the Worldstone could very well have sealed his fate in the eyes of the Council.

And without Tyrael on the council, the heavens could very well decide to act. Furthermore, I think that the reason no-one has actually acted for the last 20 years is because they've simply been busy resuming the Great Conflict.

20 years is NOTHING in the context of the Great Conflict.

I believe Imperius will attack sanctuary but I don't believe he his in the comet.

mhmmmm Malthael is the Archangel of death, and i think he voted for the destruction of Sanctuary (Auriel and Ithrael for Saving it and Malthael and Imperius for destroying it, Tyrael had the finay say and he voted to save it) so it would make sense that there was a political deadlock and Malthael voted for destroyin sanctuary
