I've only read the sin war. So far, I don't remember any human having wings of light and sound. Is there a case of this anywhere else in the lore?
I understand that the wings are supposed to be a fun little aesthetic thing to make your Demon Hunter look more... Demon Huntery... but to me it seems like the whole idea trivializes the lore. What do you think?
Thats an excellent point....Although it won't stop me from using them. Also that kinda of awesomeness can't even break the immersion of lore...Things that are that cool kind of make you look past it IMO
Im a fan of the wings ( what gave that away? =P ) With the lore of the Nephalem being the offspring of demons and angles could it be posable that they get there wings from the angle side of there blood? With the world stone gone and the Nephalem gaining power this could be one of the things that happens ? just a lone shot in the dark.

I agree! That's why they are aesthetic only. We don't get the same 'POW, I'm an ANGEL, BITCH' effect said angels do. They just kind of flap around in the wind and look pretty.
I guess I just find it sad that, considering all the time and energy directed toward creating, following, and rewriting the lore for this game, they would release a gimmick in the CE which will appear in-game that totally undermines their own efforts (definition ofsell out).
I wanted to get you guys' opinions on that. The wings won't make or break my decision whether to get the CE or not :P. But, in my eyes, they will always be a depressing joke.
I was kinda against them at first but I don't really care much since I'll be mostly playing by myself I won't see them enough to really bother me.

It's a video game. It's their universe. If they want to give characters wings in the CE, then they can give them wings.
You gave no real evidence as to why it undermines their "efforts". Considering that humans of this universe are born from creatures who both have wings it makes sense to me.
Remember those little gene tables you did in biology class? Well...If momma and poppa have wings, the chance of their kids having wings might be pretty high.

To some extent I can agree with you, and the one case where that would be is if you're playing co-op and someone else is wearing them, thus breaking your own immersion. But I'm going to be completely selfish here for a second and say: GIMME DEM WINGZ!!!!

Oh I don't know, the "I don't remember any human having wings of light and sound." seems to fit the bill? Expecially since it's true
Of course that doesn't prove that human cannot have wings, since you cannot prove a negative, but since no human has never shown them it does set the tone for the series. And since this is not a debate about the logical possibility of wings, but the perceived feeling of actually seeing humans with wings in the game, the important factor here is whether or not it "feels right". Based on that, I can agree with the Laedo that it does seem out of context.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Thanks everyone for responding. I've added a poll to make your oppinions easier to see. A special thanks to Umpa for the inspiration to create a fair poll.
Every time a bell rings an angel gets their wings...
But seriously, we get wings because we kill corrupted Tyrael as the final boss, then cut off his wings like in Dogma and we get to wear them.
But seriously, they're a cosmetic bonus item. I don't remember little bunnies collecting gold for them in the Sin War trilogy, but that's in the game. Just have fun and quit crying.
If i remember correctly in the D&D games you could have scavenged the dead monsters and use their body parts for armour and stuff. I wonder if you could do that in D3, even if it's just cosmetic? still haven't gotten into the beta so really I have no idea if its there
"They have nothing to do with the lore and I want them."
Consider them a "power" or an item with an aesthetic effect (which they actually are). It's not like it's a permanent fixture actually growing out of your character (then maybe I could see where you're coming from).
It's not turning anyone into angels or anything like that, it's simply putting magical wings on humans. No lore involved. You would have to start looking into the lore for times where people used [any other item in the game].
If there was a magic buff in the game and it's graphical effect was wings it wouldn't matter and this is no different.

Nice argument from ignorance there Ferret
We of course still retain the option of disagreeing with said choice.

I completely agree, I just see them as a fun little cosmetic thing for in game character and nothing to do with the lore.
lol.... i see lots of people getting their wings and struttin'their stuff on the catwalk....
