The enchantress is following a prophet that has somehow bestow powers upon her. Below is a quote from the main page article.
All we know when we meet her is that she is following a Prophet who has the ability to control people...thanks to her skills gained from the Prophet, she can also offer you services in helping control your foes for you to kill
Anyone have any ideas on who it might be? I'm leaning toward it possibly being Tyreal but that seems off from the controlling thing. That sounds more like Belial.
Like fingol said, Inarius did wield a persona by that name when he led the Cathedral of Light, and it could very well be him. The only humans still alive since that time with any knowledge or memory of him is Rathma, Kalan and the nehpalem. Everyone else should have no memory of him, so calling himself the prophet isn't exactly going to tip anyone off about who he is.
This of course requires him to have escaped Mephisto's hold, or to have someone work for him.
It could also be someone new to the lore, a powerful human perhaps, but if it's not Inarius we have nothing to go by in the current lore.

I'm guessing it's Belial. We will get the enchantress probably in act 2. Act 2 will have Belial. The mystery behind it makes me think that it is a bad guy. She/you probably find out and she soon joins you instead. Why else would she leave this provost to follow you instead. Afterall Belial is the lord of lies.

Which may be significantly easier than in the past now that Mephisto has been "defeated" for a time. And he was sent to the Void or the Abyss (right?)--I can never get them straight. Although he might not have been able to weasel himself back in to Heaven, now that the Worldstone is down, perhaps it is easier to go directly from there to Sanctuary.
Perhaps the "guy" who betrayed the tank and the enchanterbabe is the same one, saying its a corrupt "something". And the scavanger-guy have some business with that "one". LoL.
And Tyrael should be in the game, but I hope he is GOOD or turn out to be GOOD after being a bit BAD.
Another two things I think speak in favor of Inarius are two things:
1. Most people haven't read the novels, and Blizzard design their games from the assumption that their consumers haven't read any of the novels. That being said, much focus was laid on Inarius in the Sin War, and he has been an elusive character ever since D1. Finally brining him into the games seems long overdue.
2. Inarius was notoriously good at getting people to follow and worship him, fitting quite well with the profile of the Prophet.
Although he might not have been able to weasel himself back in to Heaven, now that the Worldstone is down, perhaps it is easier to go directly from there to Sanctuary.
(Or am I mixing him up with Lilith?)
Yes, Lilith is in the void, Inarius was dragged down to Hell with Mephisto.
I don't think Inarius would want to go back to Heaven. Considering his past with Sanctuary, if he ever did get free it would seem reasonable that he'd either return there immediately and somehow try to get it back, or he'd detest the place and never show up again.

Seems weird. Blizzard really wanted to point out how they're diversifying and fleshing out the lore with the followers. Tying them all together really detracts from the potential for story here. Instead of three different events with interesting infighting among thieves, corrupt templar order and an enigmatic prophet, you'd have some supervillain supervising it all, effectively creating one side-plot here.

It's amazing how this is going. I really like it. I do find it hard to believe it's Inarius though.
Everything fits except him being in such an early act. If we end up killing Inarius in Act 2 or 3 I'll be disappointed. I'd say save him for a expansion somehow. The prophet does seem to be him though. I mean they even go out of their way to use that word.
I'd really love to see the templar betrayed by a corrupted paladin though.

Who said anything about killing? So far we only know there will be a recruitment quest for the followers. As it's a way to flesh out the world and motivate said follower to join you, I see no reason why that would require us to kill the Prophet. Said quest could simply reveal to the Enchantress who he is, or it could involve locating some shady servant of the Prophet and in the process completely changing the Enchantress' idea of her former master.
And the good thing is, all of these could very well build up to an appearance of Inarius in a future expansion. Provided the prophet is the same guy, but I think he is. And if it's not Inarius, then it's definitely some servant or worshipper related to him. Because of all the names they could have used (herald, preacher, harbinger, oracle etc.) they chose The Prophet. Seeing as the Sin War is more or less specifically written to lay the foundation for any future games, it seems indicative.

I can't wait.
