Well he was crazy but I mean for the reason I stated ubove. He became crazy overtime and he was not crazy before he decided to abandond heaven to settle on sanctuary.

I'm just saying that's a possible way of presenting it if public outcry over killing angels is a likely scenaro and something that wants to be avoided.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
This is all speculation on my part and it's just what I'm thinking at the moment. Just my opinion and I know it has some holes.
The game starts with Imperius casting Tyrael out of Heaven. He's what falls into the cathedral the mysterius blue light. He meddled too much in Sanctuary's affairs and the Angiris Council had enough. At which point Tyrael will either die slowly or continue to help the denizens of Sanctuary. The High Heavens may have even decided to wage war on Sanctuary in an battle soon to be fought. (expansion maybe)
As you can see two angels are duking it out here. Imperius seems to be in a rage.
I believe the one in the sky to be Imperius and the one on the ground to be Tyrael with his wings being blown about behind him. Imperius is described as:
A Male Archangel who is dressed in royal red robes with a shining breastplate over top. On his breastplate there is an image of a blazing upturned sword. His nature is aggressive, much the opposite of Auriel. He believes Sanctuary should be destroyed.
There has been some debate that the shape on the angels chest could be interpreted as an "upturned sword" to the people of Sanctuary who are unfamiliar with crosses. Richard Knaak responded to an email from a Diablofans member and stated:
Thanks for your interest. There are two distinct and, imho, contradictory definitions for 'upturned'. In this case, I went with the definition that refers to an object turned business end up, such as 'an upturned nose'. This means the point of the sword would be toward the head. Based on conversations with Blizzard in the past, they see it the same way.
I hope that helps!
Richard A. Knaak
Of course Blizzard could have changed their stance.
This could also be the Archangel Yaerius who inspired Akarat to forum the Zakarum church. The cross on his chest could also account for all the crosses in the Zakarum religion such as the paladin spells.
From there you fight some Joe Shmoe demons, as well as the Mistress of Pain, possibly wanting revenge for her lover Duriel.
At some point I suspect we'll encounter Inarius, shackled and disfigured. I like to think those broken structures around him used to be mirrors.

Quote from D1 Manual »
He bound Inarius with tremendous chains and slowly tore the wings from the back of the angel. Great barbed hooks were then used to stretch out the once glowing skin and his features were distorted by vile powers. Many of the followers of Inarius were given as gifts to Baal and Diablo, but the rest were molded to match the bloated image of the now crippled angel. To this day, Inarius said to be trapped in Hell within a chamber of mirrors, his eyelids torn from his face as he is forced to gaze upon his misshapen form for all eternity. His misguided followers now serve as Hell's taskmaster taking the anguish of their lost glory out upon the bodies of others.
[/spoil]
Who knows what role he'll play at this point though anymore.
Later on at some point we'll probably encounter Diablo and possibly his brothers, Mephisto and Baal. Which have already, or maybe after defeating them once again will fuse into one being.
It's rumored when a prime evil is killed it's vanquished back into the black abyss, so their energies could potentially converge there.
From there it is a toss up between either Diabaalisto being the end boss until an expansion or possibly us seeing Belial or Azmodan as the boss.
I have a lot of other theories about the goings on in the Diablo universe, and I could probably go into more depth about all of it, but I'll just end this long post here.
throw belial and azmodan in the middle of mistress and "Diabaalisto" and I agree. I like the idea of inarius kicking out tyrael to start the game out.
Maybe, after seeing you defeat the last two evils, belial and azmodan, Inarius begins to get scared of what the humans can do and he actually gets "Diabaalisto" out of the abyss to try one last time to kill you.
Just an idea.

Yeah I was thinking since balance plays a huge part of the game and The High Heavens and The Burning Hells are equal in power, if baal, mephisto, and diablo were to all be vanquished at once, (not to mention the legions of demons we destroyed in D1 and D2 with no angel casualties) the abyss may compensate by combining their powers into a greater being.
Well Imperius has a great loathing for demons. That's why he hates the humans. They're essentially part demon.
It's still unclear what the black abyss is. I like to pretend in my head though that it's the source of ALL life, not just demonic, even angelic. Something dedicated to complete balance like Trag'oul.
I'm just saying that's a possible way of presenting it if public outcry over killing angels is a likely scenaro and something that wants to be avoided.
I dont see why the public would outcry. I mean how many public people know about the game in the first place? I'm sure theres been other games where you kill angels in. So I dont see why they would have to resort to such corruption. They are a threat to mankind that should be reason enough. I mean people didnt go batshit crazy over the movie Legion which has angels comming down and killing humans so whats wrong with it in a game?

Bayonetta.
Devil May Cry 4, Constantine the game, Darkwatch
Etc etc etc.
Though Blizzard has stated in the past they didn't want to include pandarens as a race for WoW because it was offensive to the Chinese... so who knows.
The removal of crosses upsets me. The Zakarum faith seems to have a connection with them. Some pally abilities used them.
There is however a difference between killing angels, and killing angels that are bent on your destruction. I think that's where most games get away with it.

Yeah I've always thought that picture was of him as well. Even the building he's near resembles a sword.
