I am not very fond of diablo's new look. Horned muscular lizard/dragon appearance in both Diablo I and Diablo 2 worked for me. I guess i am going to have to get used to it.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
Of course, that way the story would be a lot more interesting.
Face it Belial and Azmodan are just minor evils like Andariel and Duriel, they don't deserve a very big place in the game such as Diablo.
Those "minor evils" kicked the Prime Evils out of Hell, banishing them into sanctuary; now Belial is known as the Lord of Hell, as for Azmodan, that is a mystery.
No, neither of Belial or Azmodan are the 'Lord of Hell'. Belial is the Lord of Lies, Azmodan is the Lord of Sin. They are both equally powerful, fighting over leadership of Hell but neither will ever get it.

In the first Diablo novel, Legacy Of Blood, Belial is referred to as the Lord of Hell, this is because he ultimately defeated Azmodan, although "defeated" might be too strong a word, wether Azmodan is on his side or not, currently Belial is the Lord of Hell.
Yeah, by Xazax. His opinion is biased. He considers Belial to be the lord, there's no way he's going to support Azmodan, the enemy.
Well, from our one known point of view, Belial is the Lord of Hell, therefore, I am right to assume off of the information currently given to me, that Belial is indeed (sigh) the Lord of Hell.

The information provided in the DI manual out-does a biased comment. While it is possible that Belial has indeed defeated Azmodan, Xazax does not specifically state it. We will find out what Azmodan and Belial are up to soon enough anyway.
The Dark Exile
"Seven is the number of the Powers of Hell, and Seven is the number of the Great Evils."
Duriel, the Lord of Pain
Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish
Belial, the Lord of Lies
Azmodan, the Lord of Sin
These are the true names of the lesser of the Great Evils. For ages uncounted each have ruled over their own domains within the Burning Hells, seeking absolute dominion over their infernal brethren. As the Lesser Four continuously vied for the control of those forces that dwelled within their realms, the Greater Three held absolute power over the whole of Hell. The Lesser Four used dark and evil measures in their quest for power, and herein begins the legend of the Dark Exile.
Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred
Baal, the Lord of Destruction
Diablo, the Lord of Terror
These are the Prime Evils of Hell that wielded their power as a dark, sovereign triumvirate. The Three Brothers ruled over the Lesser Four by brutal force and malicious cunning. Being the eldest and strongest of the Evils, the Three Brothers were responsible for countless victories against the armies of the Light. Although they never held sway over the High Heavens for long, the Three were justly feared by enemies and subject alike.
With the ascension of Man and the subsequent standstill of the Great Conflict, the Three Brothers began to devote their energies to the perversion of mortal souls. The Three realized that Man was the key to victory in the war against Heaven, and thus altered their rigid agendum that they propagated since the Beginning. This change caused many of the Lesser Evils to question the authority of the Three, and so brought about a great rift between the Prime Evils and their servitors.
In their ignorance, the Lesser Evils began to believe that the Three were afraid to continue the war with Heaven. Frustrated by the cessation of the war, Azmodan and Belial saw the situation as their chance to overthrow the Prime Evils and take control of Hell for themselves. The two demon lords made a pact with their minor brethren, assuring them that the wretched plague of humanity would not deter the ultimate victory of the sons of Hell. Azmodan and Belial devised a plan to end the stalemate, achieve victory in the Sin War and ultimately ride the bloody crest of the Great Conflict straight into the very arms of Armageddon. Thus, a great revolution was set into motion as all of Hell went to war against the Three Brothers...
The Brothers fought with all the savagery of the Underworld, and to their credit, annihilated a third of Hell's treacherous legions. In the end, however, they were overcome by the Horned Death led by the traitors Azmodan and Belial. The Prime Evils, weakened and bodiless, were banished to the mortal realm where Azmodan hoped that they would remain trapped forever. Azmodan believed that with the Three set loose upon humanity, the Angels would be forced to turn their focus upon the mortal plane - thus leaving the Gates of Heaven abandoned and defenseless. Those few demons who still pledged allegiance to the Three Brothers fled the wrath of Azmodan and Belial, escaping to the realm of Man to seek out their lost Masters.
As the warfires died out upon the battlefields of Hell, Azmodan and Belial began to argue over which of them held the higher authority. The pact that they had made quickly fell to ashes as the two demon lords took up arms against each other. The legions of Hell that remained were polarized behind either warlord, launching themselves into a bloody civil war that has lasted to this day...
I believe the Three-Headed Demon is Diablo because it seems the portrait of this Diablo is based from the novel, Divine Comedy. In Dante's Inferno, Satan (Diablo) is frozen in the center of a lake in the 9th level of Hell who is eternally chewing/torturing on three corrupted humans. Brutus and Cassius, Betrayers of Julius Caesar, and Judas, Betrayer of Jesus. They were consumed by Satan and became the three heads from within him. So I can safely say that Blizzard chose the right portrait for Diablo.

Great first post!
That actually works quite well, does he really gain 3 heads from them though? Dantes Inferno would make sense to be something the Lore was based off of.
well considering Belial and Azmodan were fighting for ruler ship of hell, why are you so sure its Belial? and i suggest you take a listen to Izual it hints at what really happened. if anyone could post what he says it would be great
and we were really never told what the world stone did, however its probably correct that it was making it hard for both angels and demons to reach sanctuary.
In Act 5 of D2 Tyrial tells you that the WorldStone connects the Mortal Realm to the Spirit Realm. That is why after he destroys the Worldstone I didn't think demonds or angels could go back and forth to heaven/hell and earth.

If thats true (i never read the books) then i think that has to be what it is. But how was Diablo frozen in the lake if he is killed and soulstone destroyed in D2?
Also this would explain y Blizzard had the splach art of the demond breaking out of the ice.

Interesting. Is it possible that the death of Diablo sent him back to Hell?
It says Satan tortures those betrayers, the betrayers at this point would be Azmodan and Belial correct?
Diablo + Azmodan + Belial = Hydra?
Crazy speculation, but I just need someone to prove me wrong with something besides what they "think".
Where the hell did the three heads come from? all i can see is one head, a longated demon figure with two eyes a nose a mouth and holes in the jaw., and it sure looks like a re-vamped and uber bad-ass looking Lord of Terror, to me.
(the image below is the one im asuming to be the one you blind folk are talking about)
Hey, how about you go watch the trailer for what I think will be your first time and see what I'm talking about?
Whatever it is, it has 3 heads. you shouldn't have to look very close either.
I've seen the trailer more times then you buddy, i don't see any three-headed being.... why don't you give me a screenshot?
People notice every tiny detail on the videos
I honestly didn't noticed the three heads, but if you pause the trailer where Diablo appears, you can see 2 "thingies" where his shoulders should be that seem like 2 mouths.
(there's this scene in the gameplay video where some barbarian gets his head riped of, that everyone talks about, but I didn't saw that either)
Yeh ive just watched it again and paused it there, but they arnt heads, they just look like an addition to his Hell-spawn bad-ass'ness.
In my honest opinion, that is Diablo, and if he looks remotely like that in-game, i bet alot of people will be pleased, but if we get more video's images of bosses etc, i bet you we can name them all, especially since Diablo is A) Red, Huge, C) the Lord of Terror - so therefore who must be made up of terrifying entities, as he is shown in this trailer, i sure wouldn't want to have a nice dream about pamela anderson and then have a nightmare seeing that face... if you've seen the first Lord of the rings movie, think back to gandalf on that bridge, think/look at the face of the demon that he shouts at, reminds me of Diablo in this trailer.
@Aeromir, its a new game dude, does the barbarian look exactly the same to the barbarian in D2? NO. and the things highlighted in that picture just look like his shoulders, not other heads, cus were are the eyes? Seriously go look at images people have drawn of demon's and hell spawn, and then you will see why it isnt three heads and just an add-on to diablo's nature, also while you're at it, go read the diablo Lore.
You are referring to the Balrog...you don't even understand LoTR Lore...
Those things have mouths, that makes them heads.

ROFL!
That guy was a little strange eh? Specially dancing with the weird fat white chick that looked 15, kind of strange lol.

Because Prime evils evolve on a regular basis perhaps?
You do know that evolution is a process that happens in species through generations? Not through single beings over time.
