Im somewhat new to this forum, however I have been playing the Diablo Series since it first came out and this question always kinda scratched at me the entire time ive played the series.
Demons are not known for sharing not even amongst brothers, the cooperation of the 3 prime evils has always had me thinking that they realy only help each other because each of the 3 have something to gain from it and could care less if the others had anything to gain at all, or even if they died, Demons never care to have freinds or allys, only tools to a means to an end. (This is what I Beleived how demons should act.) They usually only cooperate in this manner or when a greater demon forces them too under threats and bla bla bla. to sum it up basicly means that demons only work for someone because they either benefit from it in some way or are forced to. And the whole Idea of 3 prime evils who share Hell equally amongst themselves always kind scratched at me becuase i never realy saw demons as the......sharing type, they either want it all, or nothing(nothing because theyl be dead). There HAS to be 1 ultimate ruler of hell i would think but thats just me. Course then again ive never read all the books, ive only read and gatherd what came with the games, and what little i could collect from websites.
However I dont think ive ever come across anything that mentions the Prime Evils Father or anything related to that. And the recent post i saw on wether or not the demon that shows up screaming at the end of the Trailer was Diablo, ressurected version, combined version bla bla bla kinda of got me thinking. What if that Demon is not actually one of the Brothers at all. What if hes their father? He does in fact have 3 heads(or at least two things on his shoulders that look like mouths or heads) but perhaps thats to symbolize that he has dominion over all three?
I dont know it was just a idea, and i kind of wanted to see what anyone thought of it. If you have any info regarding who the Prime evils father was (or if they even have one) then please enlighten me.
Oh and on last thing, someone posted that the Soul Shard projecting out of Diablos(or any of the prime evils for that matter) somewhat marks them as a Prime Evil. Well remember this, Those Shards are gone, destroyed, and the prime evils were banished. In their banishment they could have rid themselves of that mark because well.....they are no longer bound to it due to it is destroyed afterall. And if the three somehow found a way to return(or if they can even return at all, cant do a whole lot when yer souls been shatterd) then that mark would no longer be there unless it left some kind of magical scar on their essences or something.
Do remember, my Lore of Diablo is flawed at best and il admit it.
wouldnt the father evil be like... say... satan though?

Somewhere in the D1 handbook, it said something about hunting down Satan.
And I'm pretty sure that Diablo is the spanish word for Devil.
So I'm pretty sure Diablo himself was meant to be portrayed as Satan.

Baal, Mephisto, Satan, and Diablo actually all mean the same thing in diffrent languages/cultures. The Devil. Just four diffrent ways of saying it. Another brilliant idea for characterization by blizzerds part. So to name the Father Prime Evil Satan would make sence seeing as its the last name left for The Devil.
And now that you mention the hunting of Satan out of the book...that makes a valid point. Perhaps this is the Demon they originally went out to find last time, and instead they found the brothers only this time they are beset by big daddy himself who is extremly pissed off that his liutenant sons failed to do their job!
Thanks for the input, if anyone has some more id greatly appreciate it.
And the whole Diablo Manipulating his brothers thing would not surprize me, nor would it surprize me if they manipulate each other all the time, just another day in the family of demons.
What are you guys thinking..... "brothers" just refering to where the spawn; "The abyss". There is no father whatsoever. There is no any mothers/sisters/granfather/aunts/uncle and so on. Another title like "prince" is a position of power, indicated that they are one of the most powerful being. (there can be many prince's, where each one rival another in terms of power).

Ok so you have a point. However please link something I can go to to prove your arguement.
Brother can indeed just be a reference, however once again what in hell are 3 DEMONS equally sharing Hell for, if Diablo is quite possibly the most powerfull of the three then what in the hell is keeping him from destroying the other two and taking all the power for himself seeing as that is what i think to be Demon like. Demons characteristics are extremly selfish unless something is keeping them from doing so otherwise, like he still sees use in his brothers as a tool or something bla bla bla. My speculation is that perhaps Diablo doesnt do so because there is something or someone who prevents him from doing so.
Course maybe its all just part of the story and i should just let it be, I just find it odd that there is no...one ruler or King becuase once again a shared Hell just doesent seem demonlike to me, Demons are not known for SHARING anything.

also should noted the many many lores including the forgotten realm (many games based on this) and almost every game ever release.... Demons are in an anarchy. Also "brother" is not a position of power, but "lord" is.
i've mention that i started a fan story that has to do with the prime evils father awhile back. i called him Zaszaron and he is the lord of Darkness. i have it being that the 3 prime evil united against Zaszaron and banished him into limbo(or something simular). i've not fully thought of a full story of him so if Blizzard could make their own story/character that is like mine i would love it.

Ok so your points are made, and we deffinitly dont have a King or Father ATM. However so this posts another question.
What keeps Diablo from destroying Baal and Mephisto and taking over all control for himself, or better yet Baal or Mephisto taking control. Only chose Diablo because hes the most powerfull.
Any Links or Lore's to explain this? Or is it just a Story Plot sweetener/unexplained part of the story so far.
Like Ryu said, it's mostly unknown.
The only reason I can think of is because they're "brothers" in a sense, and thus feel some scrap of loyalty towards each other. They also all seem to work together to further their goals, and all 3 also seem to have the same goals.
I'd assume that they would work together until their mutual goals are accomplismed (namely, enslaving humanity), then once humanity is bent to their will, separate and fight over who gets control over humanity.

If theres one thing that Demons dont feel Zhar, its loyalty.
No, brothers or not Demons hold no loyalty too anyone or anything even if they be a Lowley Imp or Diablo himself. Lower demons only follow orders of Higher Ranked ones because they have no choice or theyl be destroyed. But if given the chance to betray and overcome said Higher ranked Demon they will take the opportunity and make sure they suffer for it.
Geuss my answer will have to come directly from the game itself on the motives of three for being allies, tho......thing is......they have probably been sharing hell for a looooooong time becuase how old is the Diablo Universe supposed to be?
And im sure in that looooong time they have all been around im sure the 3 would have at least tried to destroy each other a few times, and if they havent then what again is keeping them from doing so.
I beleive this could be one of a few things. 1. a Unbreakable Pact they made for power (which being demons im sure they would know of a way to get out of it.) 2. There is a King or Ruler of Hell out there who plays behind the scenes and just never reveals himself or hasent revealed himself yet(Na I havent given up completley on this one yet lolz). 3. As Zhar said they just have simular motives of enslaving Humanity, but even while theyd be doing this Im sure they would be schemeing to weaken each other in some way so when the time came they wouldnt have much of a fight on thier hands in the end which im sure we would find out about while playing the game.
These three things are my final Speculations, their could be more but ive choosen these three as of now, however we wont be able to confirm anything till the game......dammit i wish it was coming out right now!

Thank you.
While there are infact relations and bloodlines between demons (Lilith actually being the daughter of Mephisto... which technically makes him the Uncle to most of humanity. Creepy that), somewhere you'll hit a dead end if your question simply seeks to asnwer where they come from.

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I believe that since they are allies, they can most likely keep lesser demons in their place, so to speak. Meaning if they tore into each other, one of the lesser demons will come to power and they don't want that. Solution, they want power, well each of the three prefers certain creatures to control. Its in some of the Diablo 2 manuals.

firstly i think that the tree arn't just any demon, they obviously would have a more developed mind and habits than their lesser followers and therefore i think they would respect eacother enough not to completly destroy eachother, not to say they dont dissagree every now a then.
secondly i think, only think, that they are more powerful together, thats why they are so determined to free eachother from imprisonment.
the father thing is interesting, though if there is a father i dont think it would be revealed until the end. and it would be interesting if it were like a fallen angel like lucifer (the angel not the king), but maybe thats to christianity-ish.
So far, the three brothers need each other. When in the future there comes a point at which they don't need each other anymore, they will fight amongst themselves until one of them comes out a victor.
I still don't think that's the entire truth, the Three just don't fit the model of opportunistic demons.
Astrogha litterally tries to fool and betray everyone, even the Three, in the books, and so does Xazax. The one exception seems to be Kabraxis, but he is already in such a powerful position in the book that there's no one for him to backstab.
There's never a single hint in any of the books or the games, that the Three have ever tried to betray each other. It just doesn't add up.

Except there's no God in the Diablo Universe, and angels aren't superior to demons. So that wouldn't work.

I always looked at it as Trag'Oul being the Father/Mother.
Hell the whole world lies on his/her shoulders, literally.
He/She is Father/Mother to all.
The entire Diablo story line is very interesting, yet confusing. First and foremost it was just a simple videogame that had a quick and entertaining story.
Which then branched off to be very successful and spawned books that contributed to the cannon.
The books became so popular that its almost mandatory for D3 to play off that cannon and becuase of that things are going to be fuzzy in most areas and not as in depth as we would like to believe.
