I post this thread to do something entirely original, explore a storyline which doesn't involve a corruption of Tyrael. But if anyone has any interesting themes, concepts, or ideas for a a storyline, please post.
Everyone should read the novels, though the fact there is at least 6 of them can be daughting, the Sin War Trilogy (3), Legacy of Blood, The Black Road, Kingdom of Shadow, they do explain a lot of things that were left unanswered or vaguely described in the games.
And then you have the other two books, Moon of the Spider and the often elusive Demonsbane.
Anyone who has read those books should easily be able to theorise a story that doesn't involve a corrupt Tyrael.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think that being in the sin wars, would be an excellent approach for diablo 3, asides from the fact that how could you kill the greater and lesser evils if they are to appear later on the history of sanctuary.
Well I have a possible theory of the DIablo 3 storyline, but not sure if its 'okay'
Now if you all have played Diablo 2, it is said Mephisto's soulstone was shattered into many pieces. The 'hero' of the game only smashed one piece. Is it possible that someone can possibly gather all the unaccounted shards of the soulstone and reanimate Mephisto the Lord of Hatred???
I don't see a corrupted Tyreal story happening anyways... never made sense to me.
Diablo's stone was smashed in a cinematic. I think by smashing the stones it just sent the demon back to hell and they were unable to come back to the mortal plane. It didn't destroy them.

I've read all the books except Demonsbane. But I stopped halfway through Moon of the Spider because I didn't like it.
I wouldn't be too shocked if D3 was a prequel because of the Sin war trilogy. It seemed to me that it was a setup for a prequel, but I hope I'm wrong.
Other than a prequel, the destruction of the Worldstone could be seen as a balance of power issue. Sanctuary is a threat because of the destruction of the Worldstone? The angels and the demons could start to rush into the realm of Sanctuary to wage 3 sided war: Angels vs Demons vs Humans caught in the middle. Then D3 could tell the story of how the mortals pushed the Demons out or maybe even the Angels too... they weren't too friendly in that book! Calling us abominations... and wanting to purge us from creation before Tyreal was like NO WAY.... I think that would make a good story maybe...

Well actually, when a Prime's soulstone is destroyed (entirely that is) they get spawned back into the Black Abyss, a deeper, if not, deepest, section of all the Burning Hells. As for not beign able to manifest on the Sanctuary again, remember when they the three Primes ended up into the Sancturay in the first place? The Lesser Evils did it once, they can do ti again
the soulstones are infact destroyed, however its the worldstone that keeps the forces of hell and heaven from coming into the world. with that destroyed, now everyone is fucked :D. tyreal on the other hand might be corrupted, however i dont think so because in the d2 it was said that he did his own thing from the beginning. i think it has something to do with inarius and the nephalem, the angel who created human kind in sanctuary. on the blizzard website, they say that inarius is still in hell. if you read the 3rd book he uses the worldstone to reduce the power of his children to what the humans in sanctuary now belong today. he is the father of humankind, whereas lillith is the mother of human kind, plus, shes the daughter of mephisto. (hint hint), she def knows a way to bring him back. based on the trailer you can see that harrogath and the barbarian highlands are flooded, since it was all ice. you can see the worldstone destroyed as well, and see a bunch of demons rushing into the mortal realm. this is gonna be some next level game, its gonna be all out war b.w. heaven and hell. think about it this way, the soulstones were the only artifacts that the prime evils cud use in order to stay in power in the mortal realm. the prime evils are all immortal, they can never die, just come back and torment humans, meaning all three brothers are still in hell, just THEIR defeat was that they cant come back to the mortal realm. but now that the worldstone is destroyed, theyre gonna come back because its the worldstone thats gonna keep heaven and hell from entering. the fact that the worldstone keeps the human world from merging with heaven and hell means that an evil and a good force had to create it in the first place to keep the balance of power. im guessing cain returns to tristram because we missed something from the first game. we only know that the warrior stuck it in his head and became the dark wanderer, but we do not know what else that was all the way down there. diablo was already down there before who corrupted the kings son, meaning he was there the entire time. tyrael is def on the good side, we just dont know who his superiors are and im guessin we're gonna find out this time. =D
I believe that when you say immortal doesnt really mean that a being cannot be killed.. Immortality might mean that a being is never aging or something.. Here's the thing, you guys said that the purpose of the soulstones in the hands of the prime evils is their way of corrupting the world and gain entrance to sanctuary, right? The soulstones of Diablo and Mephisto may have been shattered and the heroes may have thought they killed the prime evils, but what if the truth is, they just banished the evils to the burning hells, well in the case of Diablo, maybe he's spirit was not contained anymore in the soulstone. Maybe he is still in Hell but not in any physical form.. And about the true form of Diablo you keep debating about, well I believe that a devil/demon can assume any form he wants to. basically, whatever look Diablo assumes now, lets accept it.. It may be that he has many forms.Right? And the prime evils might be coming back, you know, because the shards of the soulstones that were destroyed might be in the hands of the lesser evils who are working alongside them and they just might find a way to resurrect all 3 of them.. As for tyrael, I still think he is a good guy who just messed up big time by using the soulstones to contain the prime evils.. But he has good intentions for doing so.. As for me,I can't wait to see more of the story behind what really happened in tristram... A really detailed account other than Decakrd Cain's journal..

In between Light and Darkness, he was born. Outside of time and space he exists.. In this hour of darkness, he is once again called for to rid the world of sin and chaos.....
Maybe what we could do is try a variation on that children's game where one person starts the story off, with another taking up the next part, and so on?
I might as well go first...
Tyrael opens the portal to allow the victorious hero of D2 to exit the Worldstone Chamber and then, as the closing scene from the game showed, shatters the Worldstone to prevent it's corruption, closing the way to Hell's armies and preserving the world - for now.
Imprisoned in the now desolate and empty Chamber, Tyrael is powerless to stop the events that unfold next, and watches on in horror as the barriers separating Hell and Heaven from pouring forth begin to slowly dissolve. Even time itself becomes uncertain, permitting the few remaining denizens of evil to commence folding the chronological fabric to a point when The Three were at the height of their powers, and the hordes of Hell were at their most numerous - The Sin Wars.
Who's next...?
I could live with that.

If you have read The Legacy of Blood (not sure if its title as I lost the book a while ago) it would be quite obvious that the lesser evils and the prime evils don't work together seeing as the moment that the prime evils left the burning hells Azmodan and Belial started warring for control and at the end of the book Diablo is punishing the mantis demon (forgot his name) for serving Azmodan. I theorize that the angiris council and the lesser evils will enter a power struggle for Sanctuary. Possibly Tyrael chose to help the humans and Imperius on the meteor came down to try to kill Tyrael or punish him for being a "Traitor". As for Lillith wasn't she trapped in a bubble by Inarius?
I don't see a corrupted Tyreal story happening anyways... never made sense to me.

Nope. i dont think that that is possible because it says on the website itself that this is like twenty years after d2lod so it cant be a prequel. i think...
i think that the place Lillith was sent in the bubble was that pit/abyss thing. and to Unkelgus: i think that that actually could work. what if when the worldstone (that was originally a barrier to stop heaven and hell from getting to earth but then became a portal that let hell arrive but still blocked heaven) was destroyed it blasted Tyrael to annother plane or something? it was a 'portal' after all. i think that maybe tyrael is kind of imprisoned in this other plane and he is trying to find a way to get himself back to help the humans. i really think that we should do that little kid game. should we put it to a vote?
