What? If you look at Mephisto ingame and in the cinematics, he doesn't have much below the waist. And he appears to be some sort of undead creature. I'm not here to point out any allusions to necrophilia, but a seeming lack of anything of substance below his waist, would suggest in order for him to engage in acts of coitus he would need to assume a different form. Which as described in the Sin War Trilogy is not an impossibility, both demons and angels, assume different forms on multiple occasions.
Astrogah, Lilith, or some random boss or mini boss we have to fight is a more plausible concept.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Lol how can angels even reproduce they don't even have flesh.
I have a feeling that demons reproduce through unconventional meanings. Coming from another plane, I think that they can actually be counted as spirits taking the guise of flesh rather than creatures made of flesh like humans.
Instead of mating, I think they actually sacrifice a part of their soul to combine with one coming from someone else to create an entirely new being.
Anyway this would make more sense as to how Angels reproduce or how Lilith and Inarius created humanity.

Except throughout the course of the Sin War Trilogy Lilith engaged in sexual intercourse with men and other beings on multiple occasions, and more often than not, she is not in her demon or true form when she does it.
She adopts a form both more pleasing and practical to the man or being she is with.

Possible. I wouldn't discount it entirely, there are just several other more likely candidates.

Lilith's mother's name is never officially given. Nor is a clear description of her, but it is theorised by some to be the Angel Auriel. Mephisto seems to have some sort of interest or relationship with her.

how could Lillith's mother be an angel? IIRC, the offspring of an angel and a demon is an edyrem, which, over time, became mortals. i cite the case of Rathma, being the offspring of Lillith and Inarius. also, doesn't that make Rathma the brother of Andariel?
The offspring of the demon Lilith and the Angel Inarius are Nephalem. Edyrem, are like 3rd generation Nephalem.
I didn't say Lilith's mother was definitely Auriel. I only mentioned that it appears she has some sort of relationship with Mephisto, which some people interpret to mean they were lovers. And as there is no other logical candidate for the mother of Lilith (and lucion), they sub Auriel in to fill the gap.
And yes, technically all Nephalem would be siblings of Andariel. Though it is unclear exactly who Andariel's "father" is. It could be Inarius, it could also be a demon.

Mephisto has two children, one daughter, Lilith and one son Lucion.
Lilith is the mother of Andariel, and also the mother of all the first generation Nephalem. So technically, Mephisto has lots of grandchildren.

And the offspring of the Nephalem are normal humans, right? Does that mean that technically every resident of Sanctuary just lost an ancient relative when we "killed" her in Diablo II?

Bul-Kathos, a first-gen nephalem, was born of a different pairing of angel and demon, which leaves me to believe that the offspring of a demon and an angel are always nephalem/edyrem. thus, i don't see how Auriel could be Lillith's mother, and also that Andariel's father must be a demon. these are my suspicions.

There is no concrete evidence to suggest Auriel is Lilith's mother. Are people not listening to me. There is evidence to support the theory that Mephisto and Auriel have a relationship of sorts. That's all. but it is because of this, that people substitute Auriel in place of the unknown female that is Lilith's and possible Lucion's too, mother. Such A theory, is only speculated.
The facts only suggest Auriel at some point garnered the affections of Mephisto. Mephisto has two children, mother currently unknown. But as Mephisto is male, and assumed that he cannot reproduce asexually (i.e by himself) that a female is required. And as he is said to have an interest or a fondness for Auriel, that Auriel is assumed by some, not all, to be the mother of his children.

I doubt they would. But it is something I would like to see.
Should probably get in touch with our lore experts in regards to that. They should be turning up around here sooner or later. Atrumentis, Solomir, that other guy who's name I never can remember.

i'm listening, and i understand that there's no concrete evidence, only speculation. i'm just trying to explain why i think that the idea that Auriel is the mother is illogical. it very well could be Auriel, though i personally doubt it is.
Auriel and Mephisto should have a natural attraction. Auriel is archangel of mercy, Mephisto is of hatred, they're opposites and therefore have some fascination with each other. That's a theory anyway.
Oh, and Auriel almost certainly isn't the mother. The offspring of a demon and an angel would be nephalem. Lilith and Lucion clearly aren't nephalem, and if they were humans would be 3/4 angel 1/4 demon.

Solomir has already made a family tree. Though it was made before DIII was announced, so it doesn't include Mistress of Pain yet. And it doesn't seem to include unconfirmed things yet, either.
I had a feeling one existed. I haven't been to Solomir's excellent tome of knowledge in some time. I think the last time I was there in any real capacity, that family tree didn't exist there.

No, I don't think it does exist there yet. But it certainly should. He gave that tree to me personally when I was talking to him about making one of my own (before I knew he already had one). Solomir really is the ultimate lore guy (I still think he should get his own custom title... even though he doesn't post very often).
