Magic Find Runs!!

  • #1
Finding loot is one of the most exciting parts of the Diablo series. While i was playing I always had spots where i would always go hunting to get the real goodies! I wanna know where your secret spots were!

The caves in the Tamahoe Highlands!!! (He||) good luck Hammerdins!

Agree with you - "The Pit" in Tamoe Highlands has a high area level for the Act.
I also seemed to find a lot of stuff in Kurast Bazaar - lots of skeletons, hollow logs, chests, baskets, etc.

edit: oops, got the name wrong.

Big secret: I got almost everything off of Pindleskin. Windforce, Grandfather and all those set items. Takes time, isn't very exciting, but effective, plus you can go all out with mf. No need for big damage items, you can do him in a 1 player game, this has no influence on his droprate and his minions are lower level, so they drop less e.g. don't matter.
Now that's where you go, when you want gold or green. The real problems used to be runes. There's pretty much nothing you can do to get them -legally(and we hate other ways)- but to kill the highest amount of high lvl mobs in the least amount of time, no mf required since it doesn't help. Check those tc85 zones for favorable enemy compositions and short travel routes.

In order to get a lot of runes, collect all of them so you can upgrade lower ends into higher ends. I usually got my runes from cows.

I forgot two special cases for runes. You can rush The Countess in a1 for an almost guaranteed rune up to IST(she can drop LO but that's not part of that almost guaranteed rune drop). Takes "several" rushes to get that IST and then, if you want to upgrade them to a BER for example, you "only" need to do that 64 times. The second case are ghost type mobs like the mana drainers in the Chaos Sanctuary. Since they cannot drop regular items(only pots, scrolls etc.. including runes), they drop runes more frequently then other mobs. And since the CS is a tc85 zone, it's probably your best bet for your still one in a million chance at getting such a rune legally.

Curious: I thought they nerfed Pindleskin runs a while ago?

Yes, there was a nerf of some sort. Don't know if he even lost his superunique status. But he's still the most accessible high lvl unique mob in the game. In the time it takes you to clear a tc85 zone like the Chaos Sanctuary with it's -roughly guessing- 10 unique mobs you can kill Pindle -guessing again- 50 times. Sure, he is not tc85, but GF and WF are included in his item pool. And you can do him with virtually no gear, sacrificing everything for mf. Don't do that in the CS, please ;)

    WindForce, Grandfather ...
Great times in the old old patch where runewords wasnt introduced to the game. :)
Now that runewords are here and have been for some time, those items are trash... :)
And the best place to do magic find will always be Diablo's Sanctuary... In there the monsters around the seals drop almost everything, from awesome charms --> awesome blues/rares ---> great runes...
They might have changed it, but ye, Ive spend some time at Diablo's place hitting 99. :)

Well, you're correct in that those grand items of the past pale in comparison to the big rune words. But they're still the best you can get via "magic find", as in this thread's topic :P Just a little nitpicking.
I might agree with the CS being the high end place to be, but once you're only after runes, charms and superior, etheral, special number of sockets elite items, there's no more point to "magic find" equipment e.g. there's nothing more you can do to improve your odds to realistic numbers. Just hammer away with all the +skills you can get and dream the dream of a legally acquired BER or higher rune. Odds are, you won't get it, not now, not before the release of D3, not even before D5. Seriously, that's pretty sad, especially given that legions of bots brute force farm them, maybe even dupe them and then they're being put on ebay for about the price of a cup of coffee iirc. Enough ranting, gotta sleep.. ;)

i mainly farmed the tunnel under the lost city (dont know the exact name anymore) in act 2, Besides that i lĂked to farm mephisto shenk and pindleskin or the council in travincal. I didnt alway try to go for high lvl areas sometimes i killed nearly all bosses for the fun XD
I did this mostly with a mf sorc with blizzard and the exploding fireball spell.
