I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium, was previously just the starter version, and now when I try and start up D2 (Wither its normal or with PlugY) it takes several minutes to actually start up, but after I click on the icons to start it up, their are symbols (letters A-Z and things like {}[]), in the very top left corner of the screen. I'm wondering if there is a fix for this? I found one on the howto.com site or whatever it is, but it seemed like the person who submitted that was pretty stupid because he had a whole bunch of stuff that you had to do in NotePad and then save to the D2 folder which would cause some processes to be shut down while you run D2, which just sounds stupid and way over the top for something like this. Anyways, the game does work, I just have to wait 3-5 minutes after clicking the icons for it to start up, so, thanks in advance for anything that helps me fix this.
disable transparency in windows 7 theme and IT WILL WORK
How do I do this? And Priest, that didn't work at all, its still doing the same thing...there is no way to end the process either, so now I've gotta wait 5 minutes for it to start so I can exit out of it.

Had this problem too once. To fix it: Run the D2VidTst.exe from the Diablo II directory (as administrator maybe).
No, guy, your completely wrong, that's to get rid of the lag the game has on newer OS by select the 2D option, BUT I figured it out, all I had to do was change my background. After upgrading to Home Premium, it changed my background to an "AERO" background, so I just changed it back to the Windows 7 Basic background and it starts up perfectly now. Thanks for the help everyone, I solved it so don't post on this anymore.
