You mean the Ancients? Yeah, they are definitely a true test of the build's viability, moreso than any other boss in the entire game. Ironically I discovered that fear was their greatest weapon (you'd think it would be the Lord of Terror's MO). One is just so scared of dying there and having to fight them all over again. You try 20 times to get some reasonable mods on them before engaging, always fearing that if you drink all of your full rejuvenation potions and then still fail, you will be screwed for all future attempts.
I remember running there with my Frenzy barb, scared like hell, always trying to back away once my merc was too low on life (I always lost him anyway) and then scared shitless I ran for the hills hoping to block away madawc with some of the pillars so I can deal with the other two undisturbed. Man that was sheer terror. Eventually, after like a week's break from the game, I got pissed, ressurected my hireling, filled my inventory with all the full rejuvenation potions I had left, took a deep breath and activated the Altar. I didn't even take a look what mods they spawned with, just stood on the spot and swung my swords like there's no tomorrow...and I literally annihilated all three of them within 5 minutes :cool:
I'd imagine now that the FE bug is hopefully fixed, they won't be so terrifying anymore.

For Ancients, I've found that if you activate the altar and then book it back to the entrance to the Ancient's Way, usually one or two will follow you down and one or two will be left behind. This makes it much easier to kill them since they're all separated.
I'm always open to opinion Gulliver, with your specific builds, what do I do with PI. Howe many points do you put in revives. Can you give me a more specific break down of point allotment for skills.

Lol, look at you go :biggrin: I know that feeling. I'm training the new assassin now and I'm almost taking it an act per day too. Exactly how many 10 years old games are there that still attract people this much?

I have always preferred SP. I just don't like playing with a bunch of strangers. Luckily, I have my fellow DFans to play D3 on-line with.
I'm with you on this :thumbsup: For me too, single player is the way it's meant to be done. Though I haven't tried, I'm sure the moment I would go online, some guy with hacked/traded/otherwise 'cheated' stuff and whatnot would go own my ass the moment I step out of the town or something. Having played SP characters all the time, I'm positive coming online would make the game unfun simply because there would be thousands of people with perfect builds from somewhere the net and ideal items setup, all around lvl 95 and therefore much more powerful than my lowly character that would just run around and watch. Just wanted to ask, is there a difference game-wise when playing hardcore. I mean, do you e.g. get better stuff/runes or something or is it just the same as normal single player only with added frustration?

Just added frustration
If you're referring to item drops and monster toughness and such they're all identical. In hardcore, once you die, you're dead for good. Also, in Hardcore, when you complete the game in a difficulty, you earn a unique title,

Well, there goes my incentive to ever try hardcore :biggrin: (I think I maybe did once and died at Duriel). I knew about the dying and titles of course, but if there is no real reward in playing hardcore, like finding better items, then thanks but no thanks. Diablo can be frustrating at times as it stands, no need to go to rage when that effin' FE lightning bug offs me and destroys dozens of hours of work.

The problem is the game sometimes punishes you for various reasons you cannot influence. If the game was perfect and bugfree, HC would interest me, but I'm not willing to go through training my character only to have it die to the freaking FE scarab bug (yes, I really hate it violently...and Korlic too). Every single character I have taken through Hell has died at least once and not always because of my risky gaming style (which is usually the reason with me).

I am just curious now about the skeletal mages. I am worried about PI in Hell without them.
Thanks for the tip about skel mastery. I was wondering how to level that against actual skeletons

Diablo II hardcore character titles:
* Normal Difficulty: Count, Countess
* Nightmare Difficulty: Duke, Duchess
* Hell Difficulty: King, Queen
Diablo II Expansion hardcore character titles:
* Normal Difficulty: Destroyer
* Nightmare Difficulty: Conqueror
* Hell Difficulty: Guardian
It is the same reason I wanted to complete Hell on SP.
