So as the title says, This is my first time starting and playing Diablo 2. I came here suggested by a friend who used to play it consistently for help. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. At all. I started with a Barbarian cause I eventually want a Frenzy Barb. I havent had trouble getting through any of the Acts yet (Im on Act 5)
Is there links and something somewhere, possible for me to check what would be the best gear (BiS) and what build I should do, I'm level 27 and I really cant figure out where I want to put my next set of skill points. I dont know where to get runes I need, or where certain gear is so I can acquire it. This is more for the trolls of the site to say "Lolyoubad" but I'm hoping for some positive feedback. Thanks
Are you on Battle.net? Because if you're going to play Diablo 2, start out with on B.net. A lot of newbies start out there and it's easier to get good there. Here is some terminology you're going to need to know:
tp = town portal
pp = party plus (generally means to ask someone to be in their party)
wp = waypoint
barb = barbarian
necro = necromancer
sin = assassin
zon = amazon
pally = paladin
sorc = sorceress
pvp = player vs player (dueling)
pvm = player vs monster (questing)
wug = what you got?
wuw = what you want?
ubering = going through the uber levels
dclone = clone of diablo that gives you the anni
anni = annilihus charm
hoto = heart of the oak
cta = call to arms
shako = harlequin crest shako helm
Here are some commands on Battle.net that you'll need to know:
/f add insertaccountnamehere - that adds someone to your friend list.
/f list - view your friend's list
/f remove insertaccountnamehere - remove someone from your friends list
Add my account: mikesmart
I'll help you get started. I'll be on later tonight.
Those two should help you. If you have any specific questions, we can help you out however we can.
Also, we don't feed trolls here.
Alright, It looks like my current barb is screwed over a bit lol. Looks like i have a lot of guides to read and everything :/ Thanks for the help, hopefully I can get all the abbreviations and everything else

Alright, I'll log on and add you now, I'm on USEast, same with you or does it not matter?
So i'm having trouble getting onto Battle.net on USWest, It's not letting me use my WoW battle account. Idk if I need a new Battle.net account for Diablo or what. I'll work on it now and then add you hopefully sometime tonight
Your battle.net account can be created by just hitting creat new account. WoW account and Diablo accounts are two diffrent things. Just make a new diablo account by hitting creat new account and make your character then.

Since you already know of the concept Frenzy Barb, I'd say you're off to a much better starts than most of us when we started, especially considering you made it to nightmare without any trouble.

For most basic builds that aren't extreme (like an Auradin) the gear isn't that important until Hell. What does matter is your own level and what skills you pick. So for a Frenzy barb, figure out how you want to spend your points by looking at a guide, and just make sure you're at a decent level. Monsters start to get nasty once they're +10 above your own level, and you'll have trouble hitting them.

Runes are just a matter of getting real lucky, or trading for them. No other way really except for duping, and you don't want to be doing that.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Yeah I'm playing through the game on Normal Difficulty right now on Bnet, not really spending many points until I can get a good basis of where everything goes and such. I've done like the first three quests lol :sad:
I am going to tell you what I tell everyone when they first start playing D2. Don't worry about builds, gear, rushing. Just enjoy the game for what it is. Play it on normal 10-12 times, try each class and really enjoy the ambiance and story. Normal is fairly easy for any class and any build. Play around with the different skills and have fun. Once you have done this, then I would worry about maxing a character and getting good gear. But first and foremost, enjoy the simplicity of killing demons by hacking and slashing.

If you're wanting to read through some builds, we have a whole section on our wiki for Class Builds, including a Frenzy Barb guide. Obviously, these tend to be written with best possible gear in mind, but it should give you a good start on how to spend stats and skills at any rate.
Wow that guide was probably one of the best I've read. It's fun comparing the other guides to see what armor/weapons people suggest (Although most are exactly the same)
Also, how do I stop from random spammers joining my games. It's getting really annoying, I put a password on one, and I still got Spammers that would whisper me

Use longer passwords? I don't know, I don't play on B.net, but that's usually how one avoids bots

Not much you can do about that, they'll always find you. I don't get whispers too often myself. You can also set up a level difference when you're creating the game to keep low-level characters out (the spammers aren't generally any higher than level 5 or so), but this also excludes high level characters from entering your game. If you don't care about that, it's a good solution, even though it works better for high level characters than lowbies.

Rough levels for nightmare:
Act 1: 36-43
Act 2: 43-49
Act 3: 49-55
Act 4: 56-58
Act 5: 58-66
As long as you're roughly in those areas, it's good. Also, check out the wiki and the our D2 skill calculator as well
