Basically, the idea of this thread is just to post which Diablo location (from any of the games) you found to be the most frightening/creepiest, and why. For me, it is easily the Catacombs of the Cathedral from Diablo I. Even when playing the game in recent years as a 20 year old, those first few levels of the game still creep me out. It has a very claustrophobic feel, and the music is spooky. Part of it is likely my brain associating the catacombs with the fear I had as a child when I first played it, but nothing has matched those first levels of the game for me.

I'd say that it would have to be right outside of the cathedral. The creepy music paired with the scene of a gross blood trail flowing into the cathedral was probably the creepiest moment. Once in the cathedral it wasn't as bad as starring down that ominous cathedral with a blood trail.

That's definitely true, Umpa. I remember when I first started up the game and found that poor citizen lying on the ground, I got so freaked out. I can just remember thinking "Holy crap, what am I getting into?!" I seem to recall thinking that the Butcher might pop out and attack me at any moment.

Definitely. I think a lot of it was the unknown factor. Outside of the cathedral you didn't know what to expect inside except for probably some serious blood.
The fact that it was creepy paired with the fact that you didn't know what to expect makes it the creepiest for me.

When i first played Diablo is was somewhere around 7 years old. And i still remember my first attempt to kill The Butcher. My brothers said he was inside the little room, and i remember them recommending me to bring along alot of potions. I was so terrified to encounter him, that it took me 5 minutes to finaly open that door. I saw what was inside, i heard his voice and automaticly ran. After my brother had encouraged me to attack him for a couple of minutes i finaly started attacking him. The result was a butcher chopping my corpse, two laughing brothers and a little kid running around screaming "mommy!""mommy!"
creepiest and scariest part of the diablo series. me and a friend were running around in d1 and all of the sudden hearing "FRESHHHH MEAAATTTTTT' and being chased and killed by that fat bastard......

Hmm, was that blood? I don't mean this to be a stupid question, but I always thought it was a glowing, evil red light (made more clear perhaps by the new Tristram artwork Blizz has shown?)
Either way, I'm in 100% agreement with many of you; Tristram in D1 was stunningly atmospheric, especially for the time. Blizzard has always known how to induce a mood and feeling in very simple and subtle ways. Whether it's blood or light, approaching the cathedral for the first time all those years ago was damn creepy.

Haha, man I know exactly what you mean.
The Catacombs were definitely the scariest for me as well.
The music was what really creeped me out... had the whispery sounds, the random demonic moans, all the ambient sounds...
Aside from the catacombs, the cathedral itself was the scariest.
the very first level I played I yelled my ass off when skeletons started running at me, dunno why but screaming at them seemed like a good idea at the time.

Well the Butcher's room was always creepy, but I forgot the name of the place in D1 because its been so long. It might be the catacombs but the only thing I can describe about them was the loading screen when you went down a lvl were like spiral stairs but they were like crappy stairs made out of mud/dirt. I really need to rebeat D1 again
Diablo 1 Butcher's room. Man, he combines all the elements of terror: he sudenly comes from nowehere, he have a creepy voice, hes a sadistic mankiller weirdo and he also can kill you pretty easy.
Diablo 1 Hell. The screams in the sound track, the walls made of bones and blood, the legions of megademons and succubis looked like a orgy to me because they were naked and very cllose t eachother. Very bizarre.
Diablo 2 First Act Catacombs, expecially Andy's room. There is torture tools and tortured bodies everywhere pluss the pool of blood filled with corpses. Andariel are also a great Boss, expecially in her throne of bones.
Diablo 2 Travincal and Durance of Hate. I can imagine the mass execution made by the corrupted zakarum, the corpse and the blood falling down inside the durance where lies Mephisto, the most wicked looking boss ever.
Hands down the most scariest place is the "Butcher's Room", first time i fought him i was like 7. I open the door and the first thing I hear is "Ahhh, Fresh Meat!" scary as shit.
