I personally say that Necromancers are the most powerful. I think they are pretty average with melee weapons, plus they have a wide arsenal of spells; that are reallly useful to me. Like the golems and the carrions. Blood golems were my favorite. The Barbarian was very powerful in terms of melee attacks, but lacked in the magic department. The Druid was very nice to play with, due to the fact he was strong, and could transform, but the Werebear and Werewolf weren't very practical. They were pretty annoying to try to use, but were cool nonetheless. Amazons were tough too, they were like the female Barbarians.

hdins are the best overall in "strenght" as this poll says. around 16k per hammer with cookie cutter gear (hoto, p spirit, 125% fcr, godly circuit etc etc).
but if the duel were legit and sorbing wouldnt be allowed, the foher and the fball sorc have the strongest attacks
I must say assassin, mostly beacuse it's the only character I have played long enough to have something to know anything about, and beacause it's a fast attacker, and mover, and I enjoy the poison.
I believe the Barbarian was the strongest character, at least from the current information out right now pretty much states. (He is the main character of the classes in Diablo III, as was in Diablo II)
Oh, if this is just an opinion for in-game:
Paladin - Smite is bugged atm and always hits - and stuns even bosses such as the ubers, which shouldn't take the full effect and should not always get hit by smite in the first place - plus hammers hurt magic immunes.. and hammers are magic. Necromancers with Enigma are crazy also, as well as the sorceress.
You actually believe that the necromancer or the druid or the paladin is the strongest.. Maybe the Paladin is the least to be corrupted because he's a servant of heaven.. For me, the sorceress is the strongest, I know having some minions like the necromancer aids him to make the quest a lot easier for him since he'll just let his undead minions do the work for him..PRETTY LAZY if you ask me.. And one more glitch about him is he requires corpses to summon his army and what if he runs out of corpses? He may use his other magic skills to help him out but he's not exactly mana recharging like the sorceress, does he? When it comes to pure power, sorceress rules by a mile from all characters, plus with her cold spells, she can destroy minions and prevent them from being resurrected, right?

In between Light and Darkness, he was born. Outside of time and space he exists.. In this hour of darkness, he is once again called for to rid the world of sin and chaos.....
Hammerdin's, Smiters, were just two builds that were ridiculously unfair.
Quoted for agreement.

And with strange aeons even death may die.
and trapsins are the most annoying gatecampers.
