I have an amazing level 51 Sorceress. She's so bad ass in normal mode. A complete goddess on the battlefield. However, when I got to level nightmare, she's been brutally bitch-slapped by Duriel. Therefore, I'm stuck! That fast, nasty insect seems impervious to her magicks, be it lightning, fire, or cold spells. Can anybody help me? Are there any effective strategies to deal with Duriel in nightmare mode as a Sorceress? Even my hireling Rouge, who has a deadly poisonous bow (perfect emerald with flawless saphire and flawless ruby), won't suffice. Help! I hate Duriel!

lvl51 is pretty high for normal mode. it sounds like you investing in all 3 skill trees. you should have just stuck to one or two. for duriel, use static on him to get him down about halfway. then use the most powerful spell you invested in. oh and a act2 nm def merc will help alot more than a rouge.

Well, I'm already in Act 2 for Nightmare. I've always neglected the static spell, thinking it was useless, so I don't know. Do u think it would affect an Act boss? And the Lut Gohlein mercenary was what I was thinking as well. I just feel it'll be a waste since my Rouge has already leveled up and her spiffy, multi-jeweled (multi-elemental) bow seems useful whenever the Sorceress encounters elemental immunity with some of the monsters. Alright, I'll see if static field will work. My lightning mastery passive skill is already adding 75% damage (level 3). But I think my static spell is only at level 1. We'll see. Thanks for the tip.

static spell works just as effective at lvl1 as lvl20, just the range is greater at higher levels. Its fairly effective against act bosses untill they reach about 1/2 health. since you use a sorc, you need a merc that can tank, which is why a rogue is pretty useless. Also, the nm def merc uses holy freeze, which can slow down all enemies, even the cold immune ones. And when you get a new merc, you can get one that is already leveled up.
Basically everything that the guy above me said... Get a holy freeze merc and equip him with a unique fusicna if you ever get one (it slows down enemies by 75% INCLUDES BOSSES).. you will notice a huge diffrence...Thats what a sorcress is all about... Its about killing things fast and making things slow because your so unprotected.
Also i might reccomend starting over and making a meteorb sorcress... This is the best sorcress to make single player PVM. Put 1 skill telekenis, 1 teleport, 1 static field, 2 warmth, 20 frozen orb, 1 cold mastery, 20 meteor, 20 fire mastery, 20 fireball, the rest fire bolt (i think its called... the first spell you learn on fire tree.)
For cold immunes in hell use meteor, For fire immunes use frozen orb, for lightning/poison/phyiscal/magic immunes take ur pick... I generally like frozen orb because it can be spammed and its pretty overpowered... For bosses use static field to get its hit points down to 1/4 hp... then use meteor and frozen orb combos to finish them off.
Also For andariel you can cheat and jsut use meteor and not even be touched... Just teleport through the last door to get to her (make sure the door is closed)... kill all the minons then lure her to the door... teleport to the other side... then cast meteor right by the door.. Andariel is weak to fire and drops FAST..... and you don't have to deal with her bugged poison damage in hell.. It's the oldest trick in the book but its damn sure effective!
this is not part of my post, this is a signature, it's not a really big signature for now but maybe some time later it will have cool pictures and more information and stuff on it like from games or some other things i don't know

Static cuts down an enemies life points by 1/4. That is alot when used against a minor boss. But yea, like how everyone stated, you investing into 3 seperate skill branches is the reason why you cant beat duriel. Simply because the points you investing in all the skills, you could have invested in a couple, maxing them out.

Ok Thanks, y'all, especially Invincible. I've finally managed to kill Duriel following the mercenary from act 2 option. The thing is, how do I identify a mercenary with Holy Freeze? I don't think they say it when u scroll down the selection, unlike the rogues that states "cold or fire arrows" when you're about to purchase them. The reason y I invest in all 3 disciplines is because I'm fullly aware some monsters will be immmune to either one of them. That's why I do that. Is that bad strategy? I've been doing that since D2 came out. I prioritize my Warmth skill and has now reached level 11. My frozen orb is what I frequently use for cold, chain lightning for lightning, and Hydra and Blaze for fire. I find the meteor spell unreliable as it takes too long to hit the target.
Edit: Btw, I used static on Duriel, but I didn't see his life points deduct. Am I not suppose to see immediate effects of the Static spell?

i believe its nightmare difficulty and defense.
if its a low lvl static, you need to be right next to him.
tri-tree sorcs are really hard to make very strong, i know youve already started, but next time try to prioritize blizz and cl and meteor, you'll need the dmg in hell mode.

The reason going through all three trees sucks, is that you have these things called synergies. When you level up Fire Ball, for example, it gives a bonus to Meteor (and vice versa) whereas Lightning, well, it doesn't help the fire spells now does it? That's why most Sorcs go for one tree, it maximizes damage.
Also, the Meteorb sorceress uses the fire trees and Frozen Orb. Frozen Orb has one, somewhat useless synergy, but it does fairly good damage without it. As has been said, you can use it for Fire Immunes. the beauty of Frozen Orb is it only uses 20 skill points to be powerful, versus Lightning that maxes out needing all your skill points.
All this is, of course, assuming you have the latest Blizzard patches.
IF you make a 3 tree sorc, you should invest to your cold spell first perhaps, most likely frozen orb. Pump it to max first so then you can level up with that. Next you should put some fire maybe and as last comes lightning imo. The lightning will be only for killing cold fire immune combos.
