Ohhh I just got xfire. Tell me, how does it record gaming hours when you have two different computers that aren't linked?
ya i know what your saying. i play diablo on 2 different computers and one of them dont have xfire becasue its not my comp and i have no right putting xfire on it.
and i didnt see any posts about your question so this is how it works. it records gaming hours by your login. if your logged into xfire and you play diablo for 1 hour. you get 1 hour into xfire. if your not logged on and you play diablo for 1 hour you didnt get your 1 hour put in.
Get more RAM, a new computer, get what needs to get done because if your computer can't handle Diablo 2+Xfire, what hope do you have that it will handle Diablo 3?
And why would you do that if D3 is not out? You think everyone here is as rich as you? They buy a new PC now, but then D3 is released 4 years later, and they need to buy a totally new computer and they got no money because they were buying stuff to satisfy Carlos's requests.
In fact, Xfire has such problems on many new computers as well. >>
I understand what you are saying, but the interesting thing about Blizzard was support of low-tech computers, so that everyone can play Diablo, not just people who are running Crysis right now.
The problem is Xfire, it's disoptimsed. It's not the problem of the people using it. Even for me it doesn't work properly when I play Nox multiplayer, and my computer is quite decent. It's a cool program if it works, but sometimes it doesn't work the way some people want it, it's freeware, after all.

Zubin your posts are like totally disconnected from the Earth and floating among asteroids, aren't they? The worst, why? Worst among what? Not good in what way?
Thats the model of the card I have. Not EVGA, but that's the card. If you notice the date of the review, 2002. I think even a not-so-rich person can afford a lowly card that still pwns mine.
And buying this computer set me back an entire two months on the bills and stuff I have to pay.

Exactly. It's a great program, but it doesn't work EXACTLY how some people want it to. It's free. Why complain? I'm not forcing everyone to get it, I'm just saying everyone should get it if we're going to make this guild awesome, and to explain themselves if they won't get it.

I was being sarcastic. I know you are not rich. My point was not everyone buys a new computer all the time. Some are just fine with some very old computer that runs games like SC and D2 and some older ones, they don't need a computer that runs other games. What you are virtually saying they should get a new computer, which would be pointless to them, because D3 is not even announced and the newer games are not their cup of tea.

No, THAT is a stupid statement. Not everyone can get a job, some people prefer to study and concentrate on college while their parents work, for instance, and getting a job to pay for a computer is not what they can do. Some people have a very low-paying job and they don't have the luxury of buying a new computer every 4 years. Again, if you can do it, doesn't mean anyone else can, or wants to. If you like to work, doesn't mean others want to work at this age. And again, get a new computer ONLY because of Xfire? Sheesh. That's just dumb.

If you didn't have any problems, it doesn't mean no one else did.
It crashes the following games once in a while:
Nox, Mount&Blade, UnrealTournament 99, Perimeter, StarCraft
The reason for the crash is not anything I was able to understand.
It lags Nox even tho it doesn't really support Nox. It also lags M&B, tho, I think that's more of an M&B problem. Usually I can de-process it, e.g. assign Xfire a separate processor, but assigning a program its own processor kinda seems like an overkill to me.
It also did this rapid big update download a few times which closed some games I had running.

Depends on what kind of computer they buy, and depends on how htey want to play Diablo. I don't think people would be happy playing D3 on the resolution of 800 x 600. If I center towards a certain game, I buy the computer for that game one year after its release. I play all my games late because then I can afford my computer very cheap. I have Crysis, Bioshock, and other games I never touched waiting for me to get a new computer, whenever that'll be, I am not into games much recently. But usually, when a new game comes out, to run it well, and to not spend too much money, you buy a computer that can moderately run that game at the point of its release. Not 4 years before its release, you need to buy some very high-end computer for it to run D3 at max 4 years before its release.

Uh, no, you are saying everyone should get it, and if it slows them down they should buy a new computer, and that sounds ridiculous to me. I really don't understand how do you imagine people playing Diablo II hardcore with Xfire lagging their game? Nobody is going to buy a new computer just because Mr. Carloseus tells them to, especially if they only play Diablo II all day.
In the past year, I have gotten my hands on two new computers, one of them really top notch. A trait that I have noticed when using xFire is that the package always performed nicely together, my computer wouldn't need much memory usage, and games wouldn't be slowed with the outgoing xFire connection.
The problem didn't come at once, it was progressively building up. While at first I could run all the apps in the world and have no problems, I had to keep many turned off as weeks progressed. I have no idea why this is so, the first time I saw it happening I thought that maybe I had clogged my HDD with dl content and in-the-background programs, but on the second computer I have only installed these things: D2, WoW, xFire, Firefox.
My computer turns into a nice brick when xFire and D2 is on simotaneously, I can count the fps by hand when I play D2, and response time is generally around a second after I perform actions. My general disapprovement has little to do with me dying in games even, but if you saw what happens you would understand, its little fun playing a game where you seemingly have no control over the events.
So on end I have to agree with Equinox here, it has little to do with how new your computer is. The one I am using at the moment still smells a bit like plasticy like they do when they come out of the manufacturer's box. The specs aren't all that bad either. It just went to shit after a while though when I turn on xFire.
Part 2 of Post
Reason to buy a new computer: Diablo3
Reason not to buy a new computer: xFire
You have to draw the line somewhere, but I personally won't go out and buy a new computer everytime a freeware program fails on me, that would be stupid. I go through enough computers as it is, and unlike you, I have been on WoW/D2 alternating without being gone for months at a time waiting for a new computer.
1st part of post. Let me know if its valid or not, seeing as you don't have this problem yet.
I'm not on it constantley, but I do try and get on at least once a day, most of the time only to chat with people. Lets face it, at the moment, there are many guilds and clans more successful than what we have at the moment, and a good bunch have never even heard of xFire. If I would have to make a guess on behalf of passionate players, it would be that they focus more on actually playing together than they do on the little stuff outside games.
I'm not complaining about any of the xFire features either, it just ruins the $10 content I bought from Blizzard when I play D2.
I will continue to use it in a manner that creates the best compromise between my goals and the guild's goals. I agree that we should use it, but only to a degree that works for both players and guild.
In the end I have to say that instead of spending so much time trying to point out our sides of the matter, we should both have been on D2 or WoW playing together and make a name for SICK on public servers, because in the end, neither of us two have something godly to present to unknowing people in both games, with the exception of a kickass friends list
My friend, I agree. I'm not using Xfire as the almighty solution to our problem, I'm saying it is something that would help. And my /f list is pretty kickass, now if only the people I have on it would play...at all. Half do, the other half......not so much.
