I'm noticing a trend, and to be honest I think I'm going to quit playing games with everyone. As far as I've come on WoW and Diablo, I'll give it up if this doesn't change. And now, onto my dilemma.
Xfire was supposedly how we as a guild would keep communication, and know when the other was on. Alot of SICK members downloaded the program, got into the guild.....and never used the program again.
Why is this such a big deal Carloseus?
SICK has to start behaving more like a community even if it isn't on the forums. We have to talk to each other more, and not just the "how are you?" or "hi" because those conversations are annoying after a while. Ask legitimate questions, talk about concerns, ideas, projects about the guild, even voice your opinions on how good or bad another member is doing.
And the boiling point was today, I got on and saw the following members on Diablo:
Bambi
Ferret
Silver
Stormcat
Of these 4, the following are actually logged on in Xfire:
Stormcat
It's quite alarming when not even the leader of this guild is trying to keep a consistency, a feeling of unity within his followers.
In the glory days of SLAYERS, we were a single unit. We played together, we spoke to each other on the regular, and kept ourselves updated of anything. A single impenetrable unit. Where is that in SICK? SLAYERS had it for a good while, ASSASINS tasted it for a bit, but besides that there are no strong ties from one to another in SICK.
I have ideas and changes I want to bring to this guild, but I want cooperation, or else this will fall apart and SICK will be left without a legion commander. No one is taking the reigns and leading. Granted, we are a Diablo 3 guild, but we need a system, and not just charts and lists. There has to be a unity among SICK members, and for this I have a solution.
From now one legions should only be as a description. Essentially we are all equal. For example, SLAYERS would be the arm, ASSASINS the hand, and so on. We all provide a vital use to this body of ours, that is SICK, though some may be more obvious and vital than others. All however do their good, none are replaced by another and all need the other in this war we fight.
Everytime you log onto your computer, turn on Xfire. I don't care if you're busy, if you don't want to be bothered, or you just don't feel like talking. Make it your duty to be as active as possible, especially when turning on a game. If I find you on Diablo and you are not on Xfire, then there is no purpose to SICK, and I will lose any hope of turning this place into the potential it promises.

that is excactly what i do, i get home from school i turn on my computer and the first thing i do is click the xfire icon to turn on xfire. evre since i downloaded xfire thats what ive been doing. unless im not on a computer that has it. usually on a weekend later in the day.
And this is behavior that should not go unnoticed. Surely somebody else frowns upon this? Why don't you have it, and why won't you get it? Explain yourself.
Whenever i play a game, i always open up xfire first, to see if anyone is on that i would like to play WoW with (stupid ferret). otherwise, i am doing homework, or something else, and dont want xfire open, because i will get distracted.
i have actually talked to you Carlos, so im good (i hope)

I should explain myself? I suppose I should.
Alright, my computer. It is slow. It can barely handle Diablo on it's own.
Adding Xfire, (which I did, once) slowed it down to the point where Baal was able to molest me unharmed, nevermind actually getting to him.
When I upgrade my computer, I'll probably get it, but until then, MSN serves my needs and I already have it.
Besides, what can it do that MSN can't? We can talk while playing together, sure, but we can do that in-game. Cross-game, you say? I, for one, don't want to be disturbed in the middle of a large-scale Seige Tank assault with Goliaths needing quick Dropship movements to where the enemy is attacking with air, whilst trying to keep my Science Vessels alive.
It's more of a motivation thing. If you see others on Diablo, you get on to join them as supposed to seeing just 1 or 2 people on.
hence why i usually have a char idling in channel, I do agree though, and i will try to be on xfire more often. But as a hardcore player ive had to amny close calls where an instant message box popped up the same second a cluster of unique champion dolls comes running around a corner at me
Do I need to remind everyone to do it? I was just stating it, you just happened to be the example. I have nothing against you guys, and its nothing personal. There are many more guilty of it.
1. i TELE baal, xfire lags me. (being on dial up) and if i die... i wont be so happy...
2. theres a patch i need to download, takes me 4 hours to do so...
3. im good looking.

I agree with carlos here...only 1 way to know what people are up to, get on xfire, see whos playing what, talk it up. Those of you fearing lag in d2 are excepted.
Xfire doesn't really work too well with Diablo II as long as I know. For instance, I often played D2, and then I have chaos come over and my d2 window closes because i paly windowd. Good thing I'm not online the game stops. But on bnet that aint happening.
I understand what you are trying to say but I think you are better off using MSN for contact purposes instead.
Why do you even need it. It just sounds bad to me, the lag and a waste really. Just msg ppl on bnet if you need them, plus we have a channel. Why do we need a program to do that when its already built into the game?

Because whether we like it or not, we all play different games. On top of that, I'll give you a common situation:
You get on your computer, and you get on the internet. Forums, myspace, etc. You have xfire on, and you don't really feel like playing any games because you think no one is on to play with, and therefore will be boring. Or you like to play when certain people are on. However you check xfire, and what happens? You get on because others are on.
Thats how it works, and thats what we need. Otherways everyone just drifts apart and there is no sense of unity. Get more RAM, a new computer, get what needs to get done because if your computer can't handle Diablo 2+Xfire, what hope do you have that it will handle Diablo 3?
If my computer is on, xfire is on. Msn I turn off if I'm running two games at once, but Xfire is always on regardless of I'm doing. Granted sometimes I'm afk, but still. I want to see motivation, I want to see effort. I want to see sacrifice. That is how I judge loyalty and enthusiasm to our efforts, to this guild. If its not here, I can go to another place or start my own that does have it. I love you guys, I love this guild, and I've done much for both, and that is why I want to make this into what it can be: A badass group that sticks together no matter what.
Maybe some of us just like having our hours spent playing x game logged, for all to see.
That and you can organise guilds properly, but essentually it's not that different to MSN or AIM, you just don't have to minimise your game to chat. Unless your playing in Windowed mode.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

Yeh, without a decent computer, Xfire can slow it down.
We can talk while playing together, sure, but we can do that in-game.
So true, but personally Xfire is a much nicer place to chat. Well organized, neat, and easy to read.

Cross game, or if you're on your desktop and a friend is in a game, chat that way, and vice versa. About being disturbed, there is a pop-up window (that you can turn on or off) on the bottom right when someone messages you in game, that in Starcraft may take up the width of the attack/move/build place, but not the width. You also can adjust transparency, not only turn the pop-up on/off.

I'm surprised it's used with Diablo, myself.
Like I said - desktop to game, Xfire is neater, or if another SICK member is playing a different game or not even playing Diablo. Xfire also has voice chat and group so you can have a group with everyone voice chatting, instead of getting... *pukes* vent.

Didn't say you only meant me, what I tried to tell you is that you don't know why people don't use it.
The Bnet servers are trash if I'm honest, latency is already a big issue. I live in Europe, so even with xFire off I play around 350-400ping. If I turn it on, it doubles. When I recieve a message from xFire, I get spikey.
Yeh, Xfire can get spikey, but thats mainly because of the pop-up I think, which you can turn off. And yeh, it will get spikey if your computer isn't decent. Also, Xfire shouldn't be fucking with your latency unless you're downloading something on it.
With my 6800 geforce, I'd spike because of Xfire in only two games (Diablo II and Drift City) because the game itself had shitty performance and Diablo II at least didn't like my computer at all without Xfire even. Now with 8800, doesn't hurt Drift City - and I don't know if Xfire would affect Diablo II anymore, but Diablo II generally got worse when I got my 8800... strange. It doesn't like modern day tech xD
