No hostility means I can finally play in game without being forced to either 1) leave or 2) make a private game every single time I wish to play, to avoid player vs player game play when I don't feel like it. This improves two things for me and everyone else who plays.
1. Uninterrupted enjoyable gameplay
2. less amount of unesscary games on the servers.
I want the ability to CHOOSE when I want to engage in player vs player gameplay not whenever other people want to. That's a decision you already have with arenas and I will make use of them aswell, so stop moaning and be grateful.
How geared were people that disliked the pvp? Not trying to bash on any one, but it blows my mind that people could dislike such an amazing part of the game. I mean if you were in full tal gear, or... w/e the barb set was ect ect then I could understand how it must have been painful, but anyone that had played for years and actually had put time and effort into a character to be the true best it could be I dunno those people always loved it. At least that was my exp. with people I came across on CC-comp, and other boards.
EDIT: The hardcore people I understand, the hacks ect would make it very UN-fun. But again...passworded games. Even remove it from hardcore, but would have been nice to keep it in the SC section of gameplay.
First. Theres different playstyles in Diablo games, some may want to gear and skill towards the PvP orient style, for example fast weapon/shield. But others want to just play PvE with slow pikes for example, you saying that all gears and skills are equal is effing ridicilous!!
Second, By saying "hey, theres hostile button but heyyy why dont you just play alone behind passwords" is RIDICILOUS!!!!
So a co-op hack and slash games without real life gaming friends are meant to play alone just because some losers want to kill other players with hack or just jump attack them while they play PVE!!!!!
Third, I dont care if some losers kill me in softcore, but in hardcore thats just effing WRONG!
The thing I liked most about WoW was world pvp and griefing, even being griefed. Yeah I got mad from time to time and (almost always) others got mad, but it kept things interesting. With that said this is diablo, not wow, and I've since learned that itemized RNG pvp is a heaping pile of crap, and that you should probably play a competitive game that has a real focus on competitive play and balance to get those competitive impulses and feelings worked out.
Watching this video just proves so much about why pvp sucked in Diablo. I have always been the type to appreciate pvp that is skill-based (player skill, not character skill - just to be clear), not the garbage displayed in this video.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Hostility? No thanks. Like I said in other threads, it will just isolate players, and create passworded/private games. Not good for the community to have a bunch of douche bags running around killing you, getting in your way, annoying you, spamming you, destoryed your quest run.... totally worthless... let the Arena handle all your PvP aggression.
That video pretty much summarizes everything I hated about hostility in Diablo 2. It really sucked that you could be a low level character running quests with other people, having fun, and then a level 80 comes in your game and kills everyone, camps your corpses, and basically forces everyone to leave the game and lose progress on the quest.
Not that hostility would be an option in D3, but if it were it should really be level based so that you could only hostile people +-5 levels of you or something along those lines. I think that hostility in D2 did add a sense of excitement and risk to the game, but only when it was a fair match. If you were a level 18 and a level 20 turned hostility on you, both sides in this scenario risked dying in a fight, and it added a new dimension and thrill to the game for both the hunter and hunted. Being a level 80 sorceress with all the waypoints in normal mode is like turning on the invincibility cheat.
Well considering the sorc in that video is level 30, and everyone else was level 50. It bassicly just means they're bad at the game.
Uh the sorc was 2 shotting them and unlimited teleports with no cd so op. There was NO WAY they could have killed him.
Well the biggest issue I think most people have with the idea of hostility as it stood in D2 was that people would basically harass people who didn't want to participate to the point where they would make u quit ur own game out of frustration.
I see a lot of people on here who think that it wouldn't be abused if they brought it back and that game makers should be the only ones with the option. Well that also would mean that d-bag players could host a game claiming it was an MF run or w/e and then flag and kill people who come in. Same problem just a different delivery. There is no way in hell that blizzard is going to implement a hostile system back in to the game. If they did then the arena system wouldn't need to be there.
To be honest, i dont see one good reason to include it, as long as you can challenge someone and they can accept then its fine, i know it wont be included at launch but im sure it wont take long for Blizzard to incorporate such a system.
There hasn't really been 1 legit reason for including hostility in this thread.
Bilateral hostility - yes, IF there was a way to prevent the spamming of invites. After all, it's fun to MF with your mate for an hour and then challenge him to a quick duel, to test out the gear yo both found.
Unilateral hostility - definitely not. Only griefers want this.
