I have heard people grief people and try to kill others on HC in public games, is this true? I was curious with the new buff to Multi player games how safe are they for HC toons on MP1. My barb is now level 20 and has 5 piece IK set so I don't want to take a chance of being PK'd.
Thanks.
ps. Battletag is listed any gear advise would be greatly appreciated have about 3.5 mil to spend.
HC multiplayer will always pose some sort of threat to you in some fashion or another, whether the threat was intentional or not. You will generally rely on your team-mates to help you in HC, so if any of them are weak, that's already a problem. Alternatively, you might end up with people that won't fight for the benefit of the team and might just leave you alone with elite packs to head somewhere else.
My personal recommendation is that you analyze your team and their effectiveness/reliability before taking on any dangerous task with them that could lead to your death. Check their gear, see how they communicate, see how they fight and take that into consideration if you want to stay with them or not. The best and safest teams are ones you make with friends, and will usually dwarf a team from random public games.
I've been playing some public games since patch and have had both great experiences and some pretty mediocre ones. If you get a good group that stays together and has the DPS for the content, you can certainly farm as efficiently or even more efficiently than playing solo. However, if you get people afk, poor dps, or lone wolf styles it can really slow you down.
In terms of getting PK, I haven't yet experienced anyone trying to kill me. You can tell if someone is in combat now over their banner, so that helps. Just don't port on anyone until they're out of combat. However, that doesn't stop people from amassing tons of enemies outside a doorway and waiting for you to walk outside.
I would say that if you're really concerned but still want to try a public game, start your own. That way you know it's a fresh game and anything that happens from that point forward should be fairly obvious to you and allow for a quick escape.
I've been playing HC pubs on my leveling up char's I'd recommend it although I haven't ran into anything really bad so far.

i played some publics last night actually it went fine. But you never know who is and isnt ill mannered out there to get you killed on purpose.
What is best i suppose is to run couple mp1 games and get to know couple good players that will run more, and just keep running with them if you really like coop. Being with total randoms isnt always fun=p and you dont want to risk your character!
I only had good experiences so far in HC pugs. But if you are not sure, just play carefull. Stay behind people, dont port on them unless you see they are out of combat etc.
I just started playing HC myself and jumped into a few pub games.. Good results generally. My char is low level normal so not sure what its like for those that have been playing for a long time. The biggest issue I have seen with HC , IMO, is a lack of communication. Granted, there is no time to type while fighting but I would rather find some people to play with that can communicate over TS or Mumble since that would make playing HC so much better through shouts outs or planning the next move. Most pubs seem to have that one player that just keeps barreling ahead recklessly and I'm not ready for that style of play myself..
