First inferno DH died a few days ago, could use some help please.

Hello everyone! I had checked this forum out a few times before and thought it was time to start participating. I've been reading the posts and it's helped me but I'm looking for something more specific. (sorry fot the long post)

    My story goes like this:
    ***
My first inferno character was going really slow but steady. Killed Belial in a group cause I didn't want to risk it.
63k hp, 37k dps (42 while standing on snare), 500-600 resil. I had just spent 1,000,000 on 2 legendaries (manticore and dead mans legacy). Plus around 300k on mats for sweet gems for weapon and helm. Ok gear I guess.
Step inside ice fall caves level 2. move up a bit, see the fucking huge rhinos. say to myself. ok, i need to be careful cause these guys charge. start moving back. get headbutted to death. 2 shots. 2 fucking shots. now im dead and broke. Thankfully I have all my leveling gear for the solo grind and a few of the pieces at 60.
I'm so pissed at myself. Especially because a fellow redditor hooked me up with most of the all resist pieces I was using.

    Sad.
    ***

This was a few days ago. My new DH is lvl 36 now. But I could really use some help, I have no guidance, no north star to follow. I saw "Zucchero's Demon Hunter Guide" and it looks great but it's not for hardcore. Can I follow it anyway? The builds, the farming routes?

For example, my DH used this build up untill finishing hell:
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aigdXV!Zef!YaYbZb

But then for inferno, a very nice barbarian gave me gear tips (resistances) and told me I should use http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#WkYdhV!ZVf!accbbb

Now, this new build took a bit to get used to. I was all about kiting, moving completely free, a fast attack speed with a 1h. Then with this new build, I had to move to the snares or the sentries, to maximize my build. Got some gear, a slow weapon that took a bit to get used to and then died. I never got to try my first build on inferno so I really have no idea how they compare to each other.

Some DH-HC tips would be nice, or if you can point me to where I can find benchmarks for inferno, or gear tips or builds.

Thanks in advance guys! sorry to join the forum with so many questions.

PS: As you can see, my recently lost 60 was my first. My deaths so far have been:
60 DH - got 2 shot for stepping into icefall, died in 0.001 seconds
59 DH - stepped on an arcane sentry bubble after the whole fight was done, trying to loot a blue off the floor, died in 0.65 seconds
    53 DH - lag bomb
    53 DH - lag bomb
51 wizard - wasn't geared enough for hell, didn't want to spend money on him, only wanted to play him till he died. still, was looking forward to hitting 60.
42 DH - logging on and then getting out of the room before the screen popped. a single spider killed me.
36 DH - alt tabbing with no pause, alt tab back and dead

    PPS: hardcore is fun!

Hi there. The road to hc is a difficult one, especially for a dh (http://diablo.somepa...hardcore-deaths).

I am currently on my 3rd attempt as a dh, here are some useful tips:

    1. Pre-60 dps doesnt matter, stack as much vit as possible and upgrade your weapon every 4 lvls. When you get to 50-52lvl get a reduced lvl req weapon, that will be enough to get you to 60. Stick to 1h crossbows, speed is crucial for kiting and running between attack animations.

    2. Pre-60 must have skills(imo): smoke screen, vault-tumble, prep-battle scars, vengeance and nightstalker. Shadow power is useless at the moment, globes are your best friends.

    3. After you hit 60, get a rare cloak with vit, all res and max disc. Sockets are a luxury, unless you have a nice amount of gold left from previous attempts. Same thing for pants, dex/vit/all res, no sockets. Spend your money on rings with at least 4 cc and 45 all res, boots with dex/vit/all res (no ms, too expensive). The idea here is to get inferno(act 1?) started on a low budget, with about 350 all res and 40-45k hp so you can farm demonic essences and craft the archon gloves, bracers and shoulders. Leave amulet last, as its the most expensive.

    4. Crafting the archon stuff will get you to(luckily) about 500 resists and 50k life, that will give you a steady farming pace to drop some nice items and moving up to premium gear. Its better if you plan your gearset before 60, this way you can scan the ah and get some bang for buck items.

Edit: just saw your skillset, i think it needs some work. You cant go hardcore dh without a passive disc generator, that means you have to use vengeance if you have low cc, nightstalker if you have cc>40%. I use both, no disc means dead dh. Tumble is nice for getting away from that jailer elite but smoke screen is more reliable. Another thing, using caltrops with cc and turret means you will not be kitting and you ll be facetanking.. Are you sure about that? Without enough dps you will end up chained-cced and eventually dead.

Hey Bear, thanks for your response!

The way to 60 doesn't worry me but tips are always welcome. I have all my gear sitting in my back and upgrades come every 2-3 levels. I'm only scared of lag bombs and the like.

Point 3 and 4 are just what I need, thanks! I was only trying to get stuff with some dex/vit and all res, didn't know about the archon crafted parts or to get 4cc rings. How much max disc?

About my skill set, up untill hell i used a much more mobile build + a cold enchanced multi shot scoundrel for kiting. Someone gave me tips for gear and skills and the result was the build I was using when I got 2 shot.

To tell you the truth, it felt really strong. They did less dmg to me (numbing traps) and I was tougher thanks to the sentry shield. Still could kite a lot (it just had to be premeditated kiting, to a place where I could stand for a bit on my traps, for example) and the sentries are used more for dmg, the bubble is a nice extra if they ever get too close (wallers, for examble). Sames goes for the caltrops. I use them to get away and kite, then I try to stand on a one from far away.

Could you link your build with nightstalker and vengance? do you swap perfectionist and/or tactical advantage? I guess in my case I should swap out numbing traps for nightstalker. What about for dmg? Is bola shot fine or switch back to hungering arrow with devouring rune + elemental with ball lightning?

    Thanks again!

Well its all about personal gamestyle, isn't it? I saw a friend of mine using bola and first thing i thought was "omg, sick aoe dmg!i am gonna try that!", and i did. That delay between bola explosions makes it unbearable for me. I want that dps and i want it now, not 2 seconds after. But, this is what i want, not you. Hardcore mode has some requirements, as a dh you must use at least one escaping skill and at least one discipline sustaining passive. Try them and see what fits best for you.

Shadow power is useless at the moment

Did you mean that for pre 60? I must say Shadow Power with Gloom is a must for inferno.

As about me, I started off playing DH on HC when D3 came out, spent about 3-4 months on that and got pretty far with my firends, but those were other times.
I came back to play 1.0.7 about a month ago, lost two plvl ~10 DHs to ground fire in the Keeps on MP0, than decided to finally roll a softcore DH for testing purposes, which I am really happy I did.
I will most likely start my fresh DH on HC shortly :)

The advice I can give you about the DH, is that you are better off putting out max dps relying on kiting and disc based skills to survive.
Regarding the builds, I use Hungering+Ball Lightning for low MPs, because it can wipe the screen even with medium dps. For higher MPs Spike Trap comes into play, Echoing Blast is sick dps, all you need to do is lure elites on them, or simply stack 3 and facetank for 3s with Shadow Power, believe me it does the job well. Bola Shot with Volatile Explosives in my opinion is a great substitue for Ball Lightning for higher MPs, does good aoe dmg and generates hatred instead of depleting it. Also offers the dmg for your lifesteal from Shadow Power if you facetank something, or got a huge pack in your face.
About the disc skills, I could not ever switch out Shadow Power and Preparation, softcore taught me the power of Backup Plan.
I strongly suggest Smoke Screen for HC, as it is your get out of jail free card when things get rough. Removes any cc and renders you 99% unkillable for 1,5s, during which you can position yourself or collect health globes, or even to take a better look at the situation.
Farming speed determines weather I use Vault / Tactical Advantage / Perfectionist, or even switch out Smoke Screen for a companion :)

hope I could help somewhat, best of luck for you on the grounds of hardcore

Thanks for the tips! Spike traps stack on each other? 3 traps with echoing blast = 9 hits? Going to test this.

I also noticed when I went for more dps that I had an easier time with the game, that tanky build i was testing was there for 'just in case' scenarios. Numbing traps + guardian sentry was really tanky, the problem was that it had no life steal (but I really didn't need it).

Since noones mentions the boar companion I'm asuming noone uses it? Cause my resistances without it are shit, I guess if my gear is alright then I can do without the boar. I was aiming for 500 all res with the boar for act 1 and 2. Guess I'd need a bit more for act 3, even more if I'm not going to use the boar and go for this build (with over 40% crit http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aigdXV!ZXf!YaYbZb).

    Thanks again!

I really like this build for MP0 and 1, although I advice you aim for act3, since the Keep is the best place to farm both xp and legs. You should go for at least 500 allres, but I suggest 600 for comfort, and ~45k life. Regarding dps I feel like you can run MP0 with 30k, maybe even 20-25 but on hardcore you should go for safety.
Specifically for the Keep you can tank elites in doorways, just stack the 3 traps (btw yea they do stack on eachother), pop Shadow Power and it's done.
REALLY watch out for the fire that comes from the grid on the ground, it kills you in 2 ticks. If you encounter elites around these, pull them away and fight there.

The boar is great, but I think it is useful in group play along with the sentry. If I solo I never use these, only the bat to give me more hatred to spam Ball Lightning.

I am happy to help, always good to share experience with fellow hardcores ;)
