When to start Inferno as a monk?

    Hey all,

I've fairly recently reached level 60 on my first hardcore character. I play a monk.

Currently I'm farming Act 3 Hell, but being a player focused around progression rather than farming, my mind is constantly in Inferno. Given the ease I farm with I'm fairly certain I could steamroll Act 4, but until I decide to start doing Inferno, I don't see a reason.

Thus my question; What kind of stats should I be looking at before venturing into Inferno? Currently my stats are as follows:

    Health: 31566
Armor: 5300 (With Hard Target) resulting in 63,86% damage reduction
All res: 562 resulting in 65,2% damage reduction
Dodge: 40,2% (With Mantra of Evasion)
    Life on hit: 891
Life on spirit spend: 61,2 (before Transcendence)

    Damage: 4934
    Crit chance: 15,5%
    Crit damage: 50% (aka base)

What should I improve? My weapon is fairly low on damage (415 dps), but has 800 LoH and 61,2 Life on spirit spend. Currently I'm not even close to struggling, but given it's hardcore I'd rather be safe than sorry before going on.

    Thanks in advance!

Those defensive stats sound pretty good for Act 1 Inferno, at least. You'd have to be really on the ball and always aware (since an unlucky desecrator/waller combo could cripple you), but it'd be doable.

I'd want to increase my weapon DPS, definitely. Inferno mobs take ages to kill if you have a 400 DPS weapon. You'd be struggling with enrages a fair bit I'd imagine, and of course the faster a mob goes down, the less chance it has to catch you off guard and kill you.

So in general: get a better weapon, and get more defenses if at all possible. The more the merrier.

The most important thing to upgrade is Damage for sure. Your Armor/Resistance combined with that much Life on Hit/Life per Spirit Spend should be enough to kill pretty much every single Elite Pack there is in Act1 Inferno. If you get your damage to about 10kish you can most likely steamroll though Act1.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Yea I was suspecting that my damage was what I needed to work on, but confirmation is always good. Hell is like butter, and I haven't done Inferno on anything else than a Demon Hunter (which is a completely different story). I get 787 LoH from my weapon, so getting a higher DPS (600+) with the same amount of LoH will be tough, but I should be able to get a decent LoH (500 - 600 total) with other pieces upgraded.

Just as a comparison, I play my Monk without LoH at the moment. My Resistances and Armor are a little bit higher than yours and my DPS is way higher (13k at the moment). I have absolutely no problems farming Act1.

Actually I do have LoH now (I bought a LoH weapon with socket yesterday). The reason I didn't use LoH was simply because I couldn't afford it.

I used this spec without LoH:

Now that I have LoH i use Seize the Initiative instead of Transcendence and Ascension instead of Peaceful Repose.

thanks for the info, how is tempest rush working on inferno? i;m just platying monk on hc, 56 atm, and trying to get every info I can :)

I love Tempest Rush. It helps in a lot of situations since you can charge through mobs. Waller/Arcane/Desecrator Packs are pretty hard as a Monk because you can get stuck easily (First they wall you, then they surround you inside the wall, which means you can't move until the wall is gone). Tempest Rush gets you out of these kind of situations without losing a lot of hitpoints.
It's basically a life saver skill, which is very important in Hardcore in my opinion.
