I think it sounds fun... but I really do wonder how many people will want to take such a risk putting it all on the line in one fight. I think that we might see a mix of low level fighters but Im really wondering if you will see any very high levels willing to make that risk but maybe I'm wrong what do you all think?
Question... so would you be willing to risk it all on a high level hardcore fight?
Yes, I would, as long as I know my opponent is in the same gear range as I am. It's just like when you step out of town with your hardcore character, you risk it everytime. I think this aspect of the game will bring the biggest rush to the player, knowing that you or your opponent is going to lose their character forever.
i love the idea, but i dont quite think its practical enough. If your character starts off fresh at level one every time, i probably wouldnt bother with a hardcore arena, the time investment in leveling my character outweighs any fun i might have. But say they implemented a guild-wars like system where your hardcore arena character starts off at a pre-determined level (id imagine 60) and can only join arena games, but can pull from your shared stash for itemization, I would be all in. At the end of the day, i could totally justify losing a few items that could be replaced by whatever character i farmed them with in the first place.
oooohhh excellent question! I'm not sure if I would...my time is too important and I wouldn't be able to make toon after toon. Although, if there are different arenas (for different lvl ranges, like wow) then I bet we'd see a lot of like lvl 9 twinks. Which could still be cool...
Ya, in order for there to be a hardcore pvp system, there would need to be a low lvl cap, especially to start out, since nearly no people would be willing to sacrifice their lvl 60 toon. There would also need to be specialized pvp gear that could only be obtained from this hc pvp league.
I would do it. The appeal of a hardcore character is the chance of permanent death. After you get to max level and acquire a few pieces of gear I want something that will give me more of a rush than just trying to farm some more mobs for gear. Arena would be the ultimate endgame for HC characters. You've made it through the difficulties now really try your skill in the arena.
Maybe this is just because of the way I have viewed my hardcore characters in the past. I don't get super attached to there status as living or dead. I'm much more interested in the near death experiences that leave me with that feeling of "oh damn, that was close". When you treat your HC toons like that though death is imminent.
Hardcore arena for high level characters would be impossible. You'd have to wait for weeks to get 7 more people that wants to risk their characters. Most people would not be able to get to level 60 in HC, and the ones that do, won't want to risk it for a 2 min fight.
On my high level character, probably not, risk would be too high starting off but maybe after i had another 60. I would love to see level brackets like in WoW Battlegrounds (10-19,20-29, ect.) so we could twink. I miss Level 9-12 for low level duels and pking, was a blast on hardcore. Taking out a lvl 30 with a 9-12 was such a rush back in the day, would love to be able to feel that rush again.
I wouldn't play hardcore at ALL :P. I'm just not that sorta player - I only have so much time in a day and I feel that it's more satisfying to have a lasting reward for the time you spend playing, such as a higher-level character or a new item.
Hardcore characters can be rather transitory, and I think I tend to get attached to mine. I still intend to play all the way through Inferno, just not on Hardcore :P.
That said, if there's any kind of PvP tournaments for D3, Hardcore ones are the ones that'd be the most interesting to watch, assuming your character actually DIES in the arena - that'd just be so intense. @_@
No i don't think i would at the start maybe after a couple of month that the game out so that people have time ot have more then one charter saved up maybe then but it suck to lose you only full chart
I would only do it under the circumstance that I have done a lot of Normal Mode arena. PvP has so such a high learning curve that it would be foolish for anyone to go in without a lot of practice at the Normal Mode version. Also, if I remember correctly, didn't they say that they aren't going to be balancing PvP at all in this game? This would make arenas very one sided, wouldn't it?
I think I will be Arenaing in Normal Mode for a while before I ever do Hardmode.
I never played hardcore in D2, but I think I might in D3 if I have a lot of time to play and master a class or two.
That said I'll never do a PvP putting my character on the table for the fight. Simply because I'll be ****ing frustrated to loose so many invested time against a human instead of a Cpu.
But, I would definitely love to see this implemented in the game just to watch epic duels.
I think that getting enough high level people would be an issue, but that they should definitely include the option. In a real rivalry, say between two clans or something, you would want the option to settle the score once and for all. Even if there is only 1 high level pvp hc match a year, its worth them implementing the feature (honestly, how difficult would it be to program?).
I would never be able to commit to a risk like that. I hate it when I lose marines in SC2. Losing my hero that I spent hours building a relationship with would be too brutal.
I wouldn't, no. Arena's work around the idea that you'll be practicing a lot and burst damage. You could easily be the choice to be bursted down and die nearly instantly just to lose your character forever. No thanks.

thats just my 2 cents tho

Otherwise ill do it with low level caracters only.
