The CPU I have in my current compute is an 850W Corsair, semi-modular and all the cables that were already in it, were used. The semi-modular (at least these Corsairs) aren't an issue because I'll be making use of the cables.

Yeah I think you probably will too actually. Especially as you go on to add more hardware into it which you'll probably do.
Also, again you should read more about RAID. I know it seems daunting if it's new to you, but this is your opportunity as you build your new PC to start learning about these kinds of things and once you've learned about them you'll never turn back.
So I'd just start educating yourself more for it. The only thing stopping me from doing RAID 10 right now is a lack of funds. But you seem to have them. Don't cheat yourself.
Your hard drive has little to nothing to do with your performance in game.
No, but it's great for everything else. Faster boot times, faster load times. It's not as much a gaming priority as just an overall PC performance priority.
After watching the video it seems like RAID just really isn't necessary for gaming. Thought the increased performance would be nice when using the computer at times -- it just doesn't really seem worth it for me, at least for the moment. I don't really feel that my data needs to be that safe from failure, or read/write that fast.
It is very interesting though, and something to get into eventually

You'd have to raid about 100 hard drives together to get the IOPs of a modern SSD, and at least 4 to match the read and write speed.
Mysticjbyrd is right about the SSD value... to a certain degree. They're expensive, and in an absolute sense you're only saving a few seconds a day (for a gaming PC), especially since Windows will automatically use spare RAM for caching. But, SSDs offer that already-cached-in-memory feel all the time which makes PC usage more enjoyable.
Given your parts choices, Nastai, you're clearly not poor and would definitely appreciate the luxury of an SSD
DrewGamer -- I'm not waiting on Ivy Bridge mainly because I want to get the computer built prior to May 15th so that my GF and I can play some D3 together at release. That's the main reason.
Superfula -- You're saying that I should get a CPU fan, even a cheap one, instead of running the stock fan because it will give me better performance, that is worth the price. Correct?
It'll give you better performance if you overclock as it will allow you to overclock to a higher GHz. I'd assume that's why you are getting the 2500k (as opposed to a cpu that isn't unlocked). If you don't intend to do so there isn't much of a reason to buy a 3rd party fan/heatsink unless you care about noise. The one I linked may be cheap in price, but it's competitive with the best of the best available.
Meh complete waste of money imo. So what if Windows and a couple games start up 3 seconds faster? That is like 9 seconds a day I gain....
Three seconds? You haven't done much reading on SSDs have you? Too funny. Perhaps before the prices of HDDs went up so much you could make an argument that SSDs weren't really worth it. But now, there's really no reason NOT to get one. Once you've tried an SSD, you'll never want to use another HDD again. It easily saves several minutes per day or more, which adds up quickly.
I was talking about putting HDDs in a raid setup, not SSDs.
Given the huge increase in prices of standard mechanical drives, the SSDs are a great option. The price keeps coming down as the storage space increases, and they have been on the market long enough to eliminate most bugs.
SSD are the future, and I will surely have one for my next computer.

Yeah even last fall I thought ssd's were ridiculously overpriced. They are still not a great value at 256GB, but the 120GB ones right now are reasonably priced. I mean, if you had two SATA 3 ssd's and raided them, that'd be so damn sweet.
But what's also nice about RAID are the options you have. I think that Asus mobo you were looking at had four SATA 3 ports, right? Well let's say you even do RAID on your SATA 2 ports. You could get four identical HDD's and do RAID 10. So you'd have this nice array of performance and backup and HDD's go on sale all the time. You could possibly find four high capacity HDD's for mmmmmm 250-300. Easily less depending on how extensively you wanted to search. And the combined speed of all those would be really nice.
And that's just an option. If you were just getting a single ssd to run your OS and some games off of, I totally understand doing this over RAID. But I mean, you are getting an OCZ Vertex. You could eventually just buy that same one again and I promise you will notice the difference in everything you do on your computer.
I used to underestimate the impact of faster harddrives as well, but it's just something you notice off one thing for so long, then you go to something faster and you can never go back. I mean, you'll be very happy with your ssd. But like I said, you're building your computer for the first time and this is a good time to start teaching yourself how to do all this stuff and it will be like a hobby for you and you're gonna wanna RAID eventually I promise you.
I said this in a previous thread, just buy a "Laptop Asus G74SX-TZ340D i7 2670QM 1TBhdd 16GBrams GTX560M 3GBvideo 8CELLbattery" and you are done.
Why would you do that unless you needed a laptop?

Ah ok, that makes sense given the previous posts. Agreed about raid. It's a cool techy thing to try, but in desktop computers it's hard to justify. Like you mention, the speed difference is negligible. It's not really a good backup solution either.
Gaming laptops are really cool. You just get a lot less bang for your buck. And I seldom feel the need to play games outside of my home. I leave my home to do other things.
Yea I don't think I would like gaming on a laptop -- even if I had a mouse/keyboard hooked up. I guess it wouldn't matter too much if it were also hooked up to a monitor.
However, 600 dollars for that laptop is a STEAL. I told him to get me one too, but apparently it was the only one. I'd have had that laptop + 2 gaming computers. Beast =P

Have you decided on your GPU yet? You're probably holding out for the 680, but the GTX 560 Ti is still an awesome card right now. Really good value too. Are you setting up dual monitors? I hope you are!
I'm going 680. If I don't go 680, I'd go 570. As far as dual monitors go, I'm currently considering it -- looking at some Asus monitors because I think that Samsung monitors (with their flashy bezels) may look weird side-by-side.
I have had several opportunities already to buy the 680 but have passed on them. I have no need to rush, as I only need to get the card by the 15th of May. I figure I will wait and see if the 4GB FTW edition comes out, maybe I can pick that up.
