Since Reaper of Souls release, skills have changed a lot. Blizzard has classified each skills to a specific element and have allowed character to use certains specific elements. They also implemented a new stats witch is +% elemental damage. These changes have highly contributed to build creation and items choice for particular builds.
Altough, builds are still restricted to the skill runes and their elements type. The problem is that if you want to play with that specific rune skill, you have to play it at that spcific element type...
So basicly, you like THAT skill rune in paricular, so the rest of you build has to be using that same element considering the fact that you want to benefit from the bonus +% elemental damage from your gear.
The other problem is that there is some items that can roll any of these 7 elements type. This lead you to keep many copies of the same items with only a different element roll. This is creating a problem of stash space.
ELEMENTIFY
So my idea is simple. Adding an ability to the Mystic.
1) The mystic could allow you to select a skill (Rune) of your choice and choose the element of your choice.
You can only modify ''Elementify'' one(1) skill per character;
The element choice is limited to your character elements (Ex: Demon Hunter has Physical-Fire-Cold-Lightning-Poison);
The price of this modification has a cost (Ex: X Arcane Dust, X Veiled Crystal, X Death's Breath and X Forgotten Soul)
This would give you the ability to use your favorite skill in the element of your choice and open more possibilities of build diversity.
2) There is many items in game that can roll with of any of these 7 elements bonus. The Mystic could allow you to select these items and modify the elemental type to the one of your choice. For example (Any bracer's, any amulet's, Andariel's visage (Helm), Stone of Jordan (Ring), Lidless Wall (Shield), Holy Point Shot (Quiver) ... ).
The element choice is limited to your character elements (Ex: Demon Hunter has Physical-Fire-Cold-Lightning-Poison);
The price of this modification has a cost (Ex: X Arcane Dust, X Veiled Crystal, X Death's Breath and X Forgotten Soul)
This would reduce the copies of items we are keeping for futur builds.
One of the strongest current <class+build> uses hybrid cold+fire skill setup, and i would not say that they feel *restricted* now, because all together synergizes very well(m6)
So you want i.e. frost nova deal fire dmg etc.? Or immolation arrow to freeze enemies?
Yes, I don't think it would be a problem, we already have an Electrocute and blizzard dealing fire damage. Fist of Thunder dealing cold and holy damage...
I'd say that the point of this would not be to change the effect of the skill, but only the type of damage.
Because basicly you choose the skill for their effect and their playstyle.

I agree that this build is quite strong. It is based on the use of Ballistics passives. And overall in that build you have Turret (Fire rockets), Mulltishot (Fire rockets) and Cluster Arrow (Physical or Cold Rockets).
I think that it would be nice to benefit from that ability to convert these Cluster Arrow to fit with your Fire rocket
I don't think your proposal adds much to the game, I just wish the elemental runes on various skills were more balanced to give us more viable build options.
