This has probably been thought of already, but if any of you are like me as a wizard it's hard to find topaz gems. However, I have a ton of reds, greens, purples, diamonds in my inventory not being used. It would be great if we could trade say 10 reds in for 1 topaz etc. to our gem merchant.
I don't even need gems anymore. I've created all the ones I need. I would rather trade in those gems for buffs while playing, additional stats on gear, increasing the cap on item stats (e.g. 50 imperial topaz gems to increase the int cap on the item by 10%), but another affix roll on kadala, etc.
Blizzard has said a few times that they plan on rolling out some advanced uses for gems. Like the above poster, just being able to switch out one color for another is not really useful for me. I've got stacks and stacks of the things. Every time I get a Marquise stack up to 1000, I roll them all up into Flawless Royals - I've got at least a couple dozen of each color at this point.
I don't go out of my way to pick up gems anymore, but I do still pick them up when they're close. I'm OCD that way plus they might come in handy for whatever Blizz is rolling out.
