I'm a new D3 player, I just finished act V with a both DH and Monk before I decided which one to go endgame with (going monk). I have a couple questions regarding gearing:
- I read that Dual Wield > 2H, but whenever I try to switch from a 2H to two 1Hs the "damage" number in my hero panel goes down by a lot (same goes for the comparison tooltips), so I've basically always leveled with a 2H. Is there something else I should look at when comparing 2H to 1H? What other ways are there to know how much of an improvement it is to switch?
- so far I basically use any skill I like and find effective, switching the runes whenever I find a +elem damage item; when does that become worth doing? Is there a threshold I should look for? For instance, I'd like to play my monk with a lightning build, and so far I have a +10% bonus on lightning damage, but I also have a +15% holy damage so I use a mix of the two, focusing more on holy damage. I know I can reroll stats through the mystic but it's my understanding that it's only worth it with (good) legendaries, and I haven't started rifts or torment so far.
Currently dual wielding is behind 2h, depending on gear and setup. but in order for dual wielding to be anywhere near 2h you will sockets in both, with emeralds and pref. high crit chance.
2)
In your current situation I would say that you should just go for lightning since that's what you like and wanna play, those extra 5% is hardly going to make a big difference.
3) just some tips:
reroll the hundred fist dmg to 2 sockets on pants.
get crit chance on gloves.
reroll tempest rush dmg to crit chance on helm.
haven't bothered with rings and legs since rings are sub 70 and I doubt you have mats to optimize your legs yet =)
another tip, since you have secondary resists on alot of your pieces, I would take the passive harmony for a suvival boost, hope this answers your questions =)
Hi Maratini, thanks for your reply. From what I gather I shouldn't focus too much on my hero panel and wait until I get 2 weapons with sockets, so I went back to my 2h.
I also found Tzo Kin's Gaze, which makes me feel like I'm forced to change my playstyle. I'll be doing some rifts run to see what else I find, thanks for the tips so far!
Early game options to look for, carft after you gather some materials.
Blackthornes set bonus is great for toughness/survivability and crafting wise, take a look at the Aughild's set pieces IF you've found the pattern.
I hesitate to mention the Ring of Royal Grandeur ( Act 1 bounty cache ONLY drop) as it's a painful memory for many people, but it reduces the required pieces for set bonus goodness. 2 pieces with ring nets 3 piece bonus. OR, multiple sets can be used for even more bonus goodness.
All this is really only relevant after you actually get some pieces, so keep it all in persepctive, and maybe set yourself a list of priorities.
Also, look at other peoples profiles if you see something that catches your eye. It's good to see where others are at, and maybe where you might wanna steer towards.
Here's my monk, http://www.diabloprogress.com/hero/finiar-1655/MojoJoJo/42225505 ,keep in mind it's not my main so the 440+ paragon wasn't generated specifically leveling this character up, it can be done faster. That said, this is a fun build to play AND if luck smiles on you with some of these pieces, at least this two hander is a good piece to use.
I realise this would probably be better asked in the monk forums, but I found this build to be quite fun and effective with t1 rifts and bounties, could anyone say his/her 2 cents about how to improve it and what gear to look for?
