Oh well, unable to pass the first canyon in a2 with a melee character, that I spent quite some time on (Yay for every drop of "Schynbalds", those were lvl61 pants). Farming money to buy simple blue lvl63 items from the better classes.
And then breezing through the game with a DH (that would die to the wind) myself. Super Mario Style: Make a mistake => dead, don't get touched => win.
this might be a hit below the beltline to blizzard; but i remember the time when the game actually required skills - (classic d3, prenerfs, pre act 4 waypoint exploit to farm 1 certain purple mob to get insane yellows etc (cant remember name of the mob though, there was 3 spawns though)
i remember the quote from blizzard " we dont expect anyone to beat inferno within the next few months" <-- and none would have, the gigantic steps between the acts, in terms of gear needed etc, build diversity and so on, WAS FREAKING EPIC AND CHALLENGING ! - but then they nerfed everything, cause avg joe couldnt get further then to the first quest in act 2 and since then, its just been a rolling ball in terms of nerfs, whenever something is "hard" or requires more then 5 minutes to farm..
In all fairness, the reason why OG Inferno was so hard was because the items were terrible. Current T1 would be a headache with those uninspired, limp-wristed pieces of feces.
we dont share the same oppinion about the items though, but lets leave it at that
I'm extremely curious what you mean by that last line?
Those items......were terrible. I agree that the difficulty was fun, but how difficult would it really be with todays itemization? They should've buffed the items accordingly and left the difficulty alone. The old guard under Wilson had a strange approach to balance.
that we dont share the same oppinion about the items ? i dont think i can be any more clear about it But i dont wish to discuss/debate it with you Ruksak. I dont think anything good will come from it
i mean no harm by what im saying, and i hope you respect it
have a nice day
p.s if you try to compare todays items, to the oldschool difficulty, you need to amp up the difficulty 2-3 times to make that corelation.. you cant just compare todays items to the old difficulty, cause then the mobs should have been even stronger then they were !
I'll respect your lack of desire to respond. Just bare in mind, I'm not the type to insult when a different opinion is staunchly thrown up.
Under the old Vanilla D3, I was a "self-found" Hard Core player, if that enlightens you as to how I approached D3V.
My comment about "today's items" was not necessarily aiming at the items number ranges. I meant to focus my comment on the "Orange/Bullet" affixes that 2.0 brought us, as well as the highly impactful set bonuses, and how if we had those types of synergy-boosting, skill-in-an-item affixes, OG Inferno would've been much more approachable, even if it was far more difficult than it was.
I'll add; IMO, the biggest obstacle to approaching OG Inferno was how willing one was to use the AH's, namely, the RMAH/Buying gold.
EDIT to add; I know one thing we might both agree on. I Would LOVE it if we had an option to play Original Diablo III 1.0. With the appropriate bug fixes, OFC.
a) classes had been balanced: No natural dominance of ranged classes because of their innate ability to deal damage without going near any danger. Also no lvl63 (acts 3/4) gear available in act 1 if there had been no better class to pass that down.
and especially
no trading/AH: No swarm of followers to feed the streamers so they could "prove" a) wrong and beat Diablo with a Barb for example. Also no bs upgrade mechanism of "farm for gold -> buy upgrades" simulating real life
I do remember this time, but I certainly don't miss it. D3 has become so much better over time. And by the way, ruksak: The fact that "self-found" has become the default-mode is nothing but an improvement. I don't suppose you care about bragging rights for playing with self-restrictions while others don't.

I only threw in the comment "When Self Found meant something" specifically because we all do it now. Nothing negative was meant by it. Back then, it meant something to ignore the AH's.
I agree, BoA is a vast improvement. You keep what you kill. Brilliant.
Kids nowadays use a book to identify inventories full of legendaries, back in my day we had to click on every single yellow item to id them, all to sell to vendors or salvage them, also one by one, nothing like that fancy "salvage all" buttons
Some times the "walking to school up hill both ways in the snow with no shoes on a hot day being chased by rabid alligators" expression is applicable! ID'ing most (rares/trash) - that was bloody murder.
I remember grudgingly toting around two vastly different weapons to take on... *dramatic music cue* Reflect Damage.
Shit I remember being mind fucked for a while after that one guy bought an Echoing Fury for 7,500 euros (9504.34 US Dollars).
That is....disturbing. I get that some people are blessed with great fortunes, but what a bizarre way to burn money. And to think, it was utterly useless within a few weeks/months.

When I was a kid, we didn't have movies. We laid on the side of a hill and stared at the sun, and we liked it.
I remember old inferno madness. Soloing inferno with a DH 3 days after release, and doing like +100 trys in belial, just trying to do the perfect kill, with no adds nor aoe hitting me. It was awesome when it was done, the problem came with act3, even harder. Old times....
I also remember selling +900 dps blue bows or xbows for milions.

900 dps you say hah! that was sky high back then the memories..
.. I remember I my first legendary bow drop. it took me slogging away for about 150 hours within the first few weeks right around release...it was less than 50% the DPS of a bow I had been using 10 or 15 levels prior.....
a legendary 1 hand crossbow.
147 odd hours farming for Act 1 Inferno for it. 165 DPS - Izzucob.
I remember when they introduced Brawling and how disappointing it was to the community. "fail, but better than nothing I guess" was the general consensus.

It was worse than nothing. It was quite literally the laziest, most half-assed PvP they could possibly have implemented. I would prefer them not have implemented it, as opposed to insulting me like that.
I remember when Monk's could spam Mantra of Healing and give you and your party a shield of 80% of your hp (and where Serenity - Tranquility would apply 1 sec immortality to your party members). And the only way to get through Inferno A2-4 was tank Monk (even back then we were just a tool).
I remember having everyone going solo after A2 Inferno was more or less unbeatable in a party, but eventually all the glass-cannons/kiters would get stuck at Belial and as an "immortal" Monk I would spend 45 mins killing him, so I could create a game in A3 where the rest could join and then keep on progress through A3 and 4.

Took me about 30 minutes to bring him down and I needed to skip the clones during shadow phase
