so i joined a random public game today, and I thought i was getting trolled by 3 people..but then i saw that 3 other players aside from me was moving in the same motion. within each other. and when they typed they all replied..so i need to know how battle.net is allowing such thing to happen? how can someone play 3 accounts or more at once? has anyone experienced something similar or saw something close to what i saw?
the 'person' had 3 crusaders, all on different builds and same clan and same paragon levels..they were all stacked upon each other and moving as one
here they were standing all upon each other in town...
here they are walking in a rift..
so if anyone could do something about this..it would be appreciated.
Yep, it's called multiboxing, and apparently Blizzard is ok with it.
I personally hate it, and I think it should be a ban-able offense, simply because people are using 3rd party programs and scripts to control 3 different accounts at once. If you want to set up all your accounts, with a mouse and keyboard per account and play like that, fine. But this shit here straight up makes me not want to play. Most effective way to farm? Buy 4x copies of D3 RoS and multibox.
Defenders of multiboxing inc! And let me iterate one more time before the end here; I think the offense is using macros and scripts to have one command = 4 different commands for 4 different accounts.
Blizzard has stated MANY times, as long as one keypress only ever does ONE thing on each client, it's okay.... when you press one thing and a series of things occur on ONE client, that's the problem. Press 1, each instance has 1 pressed, that's okay. Press 1, and each instance pressed 1, than 2, than 3, than 4, not okay.
I don't multibox, but who cares it's always more efficient to farm with 4 people if you're all the same class. why is it a problem if they are doing the same thing (also, it's harder to multibox, having one of them die = reseting EVERYTHING to get them all stacked up again)
I think their official stance was it's fine as long as you don't use 3rd party programs to do it with.
You need, by definition, a 3rd party program to do it.
Yes, just as windows/MacOS are 3rd party tools, with the function to start the game, send mouse and keyboard input to it, and display the result on screen (and a lot more, but you get the point). Multiboxing software actually does nothing else than what your computre already does.
As a side note: I bought 4 accounts and multiboxing software cause I was hoping to gear up my char way faster in season, gave up at paragon 25 while my friends were close to 100 and way better geared in the same time played. Multiboxing=gearing up 4 chars, very hard to keep them synced and walk around, and not efficient at all cause you can't use "point and attack" skills because the sync issue they have (this changes with M6 set, full zuni set, ...).
the only way you are allowed to multiox is when the only thing your 3rd party program does, is sending all keystrokes/mouse usage to more then one window. As long as 1 input = 1 output per window its true, they have no problems with it.
If 1 input = 2 or 3 or x outputs, they will likely try to ban your ass.
Yep, summed it up perfectly. More or less what the customer service said to me when I was asking about multiboxing myself.
Does it significantly increase your loot? Specifically, increase your chance at very high quality loot on your main toon? Absolutely. The question is how the multiboxxers pick up legendaries, and other stuff, as they go on all four clients. And for that, I believe, they use a third party program, which IS strictly against ToS.
While multiboxing, you can see all your clients. With the star and the beam and the sound, it is not hard to notice a legendary. Since you do control all clients with mouse movement/clicks/keyboard, you can perfectly aim the mouse over it and click it to pick up.
To be sure, you check the minimap again when you leave the area.
If you would use a program to pick up loot for you while multiboxing, you're better off straight botting. The running/fighting is the hardest part, not the picking up.

They can turn it off whenever they want to control a specific account.
Show me another application for this 3rd party program outside of diablo3 and i may change my stance on it being against the tos.
Your stance is irrelevant, Blizzard has been clear that multiboxing is allowed.
Its common sense that this is a hack because it has no use outside of diablo 3. Ppl argue that a mouse driver and other things would also be hacks, this is how they differ.
If blizz told you water isnt wet and fire isnt hot would you debat me on that too? Or would you use your head
Im not going to argue the multibox third party app that is only useful in diablo3 isnt a 3 party app in d3. Blizzard can turn a blind eye to more sales all they want, but its common sense in this case. Im not debating whether or not blizzard has the right to exercise this option, im just stating the obvious.
Call it whatever you want but it's Blizzard's game, Blizzard's TOS, and Blizzard choice whether it's allowed or not and they have already decided that it is. Any argument you have is a pointless waste of time.

You probably have no clue about computers and technology right? Would you say a virtual machine is a hack? What makes you say the multi box software has no use outside of diablo 3?
Virtual machine = more clients on your lan. Are you only loading more instances of diablo3 or is it more than a simple virtual machine? No wonder you guys look for advantages, your iq rivals my pet chiapet
Ya phuze... thats why i said "Im not debating whether or not blizzard has the right to exercise this option".
1) Multiboxing does not give you any advantage at this point, you're better off in creating an efficient group with your friends. High Greater Rifts (45+) are virtually impossible with multiboxing, and T6 is significantly slower with multiboxing, and the higher amount of legendaries barely makes up for it. It's a matter of preference if you have the technical equipment, knowledge, and want to play a more "complex" system. It's absolutely not an easy "let me install this program, buy 3 licenses, and gear my character out" card. Not at all.
2) Multiboxing is not illegal, and the fact that it requires a 3rd party program is within the grey area of Diablo 3. Citing the ToS/EULA is meaningless here, as they're not updated to reflect Blizzard's stance on multiboxing yet. Also see Blizzard's bluepost regarding multiboxing for clarity:
For Diablo III, multiboxing walks the strange line of being something we technically allow, but don’t officially support.
For clarity, players are allowed to have multiple Battle.net accounts, and each of them can have a Diablo III: Reaper of Souls license (one per account). There is no limit to the number of Battle.net accounts a single user can have, so long as no more than three of them have Battle.net Balance*. There is also no restriction to how many of these accounts can be online at once, but the methods to do so may not be supported. We do not support third-party software, and third-party software that automates gameplay is not allowed. Accounts found to be using third-party software that automates gameplay risk being closed, possibly permanently.
In other words, you can have multiple accounts, and you can be online with all of them at one time. We don’t support multiboxing in Diablo III, however, and some software used to facilitate multiboxing may violate our policies, so do so at your own risk.
* Please note that this clarification is not reflected within the EULA and TOU at this time. We will be updating both documents in the near future to correct this.
Feel free to discuss this topic further, but refrain from equating "multiboxing" with "hacking" or "cheating" as this is plain wrong. Besides, at least one of the Blizzard developers themselves (Travis Day) admitted to be multiboxing as well.

I don't care what people do, I really don't, so long as we're not talking about hacking, duping, issues that can indirectly/directly affect my experience.
But let's be honest. Blizzard allows this because it leads to substantial profit. Many 3rd party programs don't affect other players. Many 3rd party programs don't give an advantage (dark d3). But these programs don't provide Blizzard with a profit advantage, thusly, they are forbidden.
Call it smart business, call it dubious, I suppose the truth is in the eye of the beholder. But certainly this is allowed solely on the basis that it provides increased profit margins. No other 3rd party programs do this.
Being able to run 4 copies simultaneously IS an advantage. This game revolves around items, and when a player can trade items to himself from 4 accounts, said player is enjoying a distinctive advantage over players that choose not to participate, whether due to a distaste for the cheap practice, or financial reasons.
@ruksak: Not true. We have a variety of multiboxers in our clan. They play a lot (their multibox-twinks are relatively high in paragon). They can farm T6 efficiently. Yet, their gear is not better than that of any other player who is online for a similar amount of time. As I've pointed out, this "advantage" is a myth, period.
Regarding Blizzard's motivations for multiboxing - so what? Money is always good, money goes into development of future patches and will make the game better for me. I'm the last person to defend systems that are solely based on profit (I have made job-related decisions just to get far away from those profit-centered people). But in this case, I like the game, and I'm getting content for free, so if Blizzard finds any source of income that is not "pay to win" I'm all in for it, as it will only benefit myself by getting a better game. Those multiboxers pay additional bucks for their own personal enjoyment, but will never be above you in any ranking if you invest the same amount of time in a single account, so there's no need to bitch about multiboxers. It's okay to not like it (I tell multiboxers in our clan to at least occasionally play in groups as there's no point to be in a clan if you don't socialize), I personally can't be arsed to do it either (though I've considered it), but it is not okay to make uninformed guesses about multiboxers "cheating" or in any way having a bad impact on your game experience as this is simply not true.
