People talk about this all the time…but there is one aspect that is rarely talked about...
Lets say I'm a Wizard that uses all arcane skills, lets say Archon primarily.
Now lets say I have 2 weapons, both with different element types, one is arcane damage, one is holy damage.
My question is, with all else being equal, would the arcane damage weapon do more damage with the arcane skills? Would they be the same total damage regardless?
A follow up question would be is the X% damage to arcane skills on other armor types effected by the weapons element type?
Finally, if the answer to both these questions is no, then what is the point of elemental weapons??? Why blizzard? why?
This has been bugging me and I can't figure it out.
As far as my knowledge goes, and I could be wrong, the only time currently that the weapon's element type matters is for a Wizard's tal rasha meteor set, and for a Wizard's elemental exposure passive. In every other instance it doesn't change anything - again as far as I know.
Originally the element type was going to add another aspect to attacks, whether it's a DoT for poison and fire weapons, a slow for cold (which it did at one point), extra damage to undead for holy or possibly healing, ect. The reason given as to why this wasn't fully implemented was that at the time, it was too hard to balance. Everyone either always chose the one that did the most damage, or the one with the best CC.
i don't know, i always see people asking different things about it…and truly nobody knows. I just don't understand why weapons would have element stats to begin with if it didn't matter.

We must be looking at different threads, because that one aspect is pretty much all anyone ever asks about
