I'm not even sure what problem the damn thing is supposed to solve. Sure, it was annoying having to re-roll a socket on every weapon, but now it'll be equally annoying having to re-roll the second best affix.
Also, doesn't it amplify the difference between DW and non-DW builds?

You "have to" re-roll an affix on every piece of gear, if you want to be truly optimal.
The problem this is trying to solve is that enchanting from no socket to socket was pretty much universally agreed to convert a weapon from completely useless to usable. Re-rolling other affixes is much more likely just take it from ok to good, or from good to really good. Not from useless to usable.
There is currently 2 situation to this weapon problem.
1) weapon without socket initially, and get enchanted to get socket prior of 2.1. Easiest solution is to recoll the socket to get other stat and then use Ramalandi's Gift.
2) weapon with socket initially, and get enchanted on other primary stat on the weapon. Can't enchant away the socket as of the system now. No particular solution now, unless they come up with a system that allow re-enchanting or resetting of weapon, etc.
Personally, I feel the general solution to this problem is to only allow Ramalandi's Gift to be able to be used on legendary weapon dropped during 2.1 LIVE and weapon before that will be treated similar to the legacy weapon. In fact, there are some legendary weapon that have added primary slot(from 4 to 5 slots) within them than in 2.06 which makes it logical to say that 2.06 weapon or equip drop will become "legacy".
BTW, there isn't a perfect solution catering to all class of players.
I proposed a soution in a separate thread. The solution was to have Ramalandi'sgift not add a socket, but to add an extra affix instead. This affix if not initially a socket, would be re-rollable into a socket at the players choosing. What the affix actually is whenRamalandi's gift is applied/consumed, is down to the "RNG"
This solution means players with well loved hard earned pre 2.1 weapons don't find themselves having to look for a new weapons.
What I find a bit surprising about Blizzard is the lack for foresight. TheRamalandi's gift does not completely address the issue, it just shifts the weight from one side of the seesaw to the other.
How many good-for-ramaladni's weapons people has scavenging... just like someone said, it's about the players starts to think diferently about the items, for many times I caught myself with a nice weapon with no sock nor primary stats for the class, rendering the weapon useless. So I'm fine with this use.
Now, I think this Ramaladni's Gift should also work with jewelry, it would be the only way for us to use most of our optimized rings and amys with the new legendary gems (maybe not so much the amys cause we're going to be rolling a lot of hellfires..). Imagine that perfect ammy, that you had to reroll for % Ele DMG or CHD, will you change it into a socket ?
I see people thinking "A socket for free ?"... I guarantee that this item WILL NOT be that easy to obtain, by the way I think that there will be a lot of frustration trying to farm it, possibly like the RoRG case or worst.
Unreal, people... who cares if items are rendered useless after the gift is implemented... its designed to make a shitty item with no socket useful... you're using your current weapon now, right? Who cares if you already rolled a different stat? In 2 months after the patch hits its not gonna matter. New items drop every day. *wait for it* work for a better weapon, what's the problem? You wanna know a solution to this? Save weapons that roll well minus a socket, and has a stat you can roll to whatever you want. There are no 'problems' with this item. You people need to wake up and stop complaining about having to work to get things.

Lol@ this... the fact that people worked hard is irrelevant, people worked hard for their level 60 gear which became useless At RoS launch... so your point is moot... are you done farming or are you going to continue to do so? Finding a new weapon is simply a matter of time... and as I said before, start saving possible options now and quit cryin

Ok, so if finding the right weapon is a matter of time, fine. Why even have a RG ? Why not just make sure the existing issues in weapons affixes are fixed in 2.1 and leave it at that. Afterall, a better weapon will drop to those who are patient so why would you even need to RG anything ?
RG as it is addresses a specific group of issues but in the process, causes imbalance.

Because as it stands, weapons drop with 4 primaries... their solution is to allow you to roll 1 useless stat, and still be able to put a socket in the weapon.. no matter how you slice it, you'll still need a weapon to roll perfect in order for a preferred set of stats to be on it. This is a quicker, easier fix than fiddling with stat rolls on weapons. People are gonna bitch regardless so they might as well take the easier route

How is this the easy route? If the problem is that weapons drop with 4 primaries and they should drop with 5 then just make every weapon drop with 5, and let the user roll the worst one into a socket exactly like we've already been doing. All this does is make a socket automatically the worst possible affix and force you to reroll it so you can use RG to get your fifth affix. Do you not see how counter-intuitive that is? You are forced to roll off the socket so you can then add the socket with RG. That makes no sense.

At that rate just make all items drop with a guaranteed socket then... lololol it's the easy route because all they have to do is let you add a 5th, which is a socket... items drop with desired stats and a socket... it's easier to roll the socket off for another desired stat and put a free socket on... I've found plenty of items with awesome stats and no sockets, that I've salvaged... do you hear me complaining because I could have had some sick ass shit? No...
Everything dropping with a guaranteed socket is definitely a better solution than the current implementation of RG. The issue here is that its use is counter-intuitive, regardless of whether or not you can see that. I don't understand how you perceive this as complaining. If the goal is 5 affixes and a socket there's several good ways to achieve that:
1. All weapons drop with 5 affixes, user can roll one into a socket
2. All weapons drop with 4 non-socket affixes, RG is used to add socket
3. All weapons drop with 4 affixes, RG can be used to add a 5th, user can roll any of the 5 into a socket if there isn't one
ALL of these are better ways to handle it than:
4. Weapons drop with 4 affixes, RG can be used to add a socket IF there isn't one
This isn't a complaint and I have no idea how you are construing it as that. The issue is that the use of RG in its current form is counter-intuitive. If the goal is to get a socket on your weapon, rolling the existing socket off your weapon should not be a part of that process. It's just illogical.
As for you salvaging items with awesome stats and no sockets, Reaper of Souls features a Mystic NPC that can be used to enchant your gear. She is very useful for just such a situation, and can transform your "almost awesome" socket-less item into an awesome socketed one. I'm getting reaaaally sick of arguments like this.
Here's a piece of advice: If you don't want your items to be "rendered useless" (aka, slightly less useful than other items but still as useful as it was before the patch), then maybe you shouldn't play an online game that is regularly updated with improved items and functionality.
OMG: My hammer jammers are USELESS because the new version has a better secondary. OMG: My thunderfury is USELESS because it came with a socket and I already enchanted another stat. OMG: I can still use all of my items and they're just as useful as they were pre-patch, how USELESS!
Seriously, don't play online games if you want everything in-game to stay the same forever. If you're going to play Diablo 3, accept that new items will arrive, old items will be improved, and AWESOME CHANGES like Ramalandi's Gift might make newer weapons better than the weapons you already have. Understand, please, that adding an item that improves weapons does not make your current weapon useless. It works for you right now, right? Well, guess what: It's still going to work in 2.1.
This community is turning into a bunch of whiny bitches who can't even accept good changes, changes that we specifically asked for, without complaining about it. In fact, if you're going to complain about Ramalandi's Gift, which, by the way, is Blizzard giving us exactly what we asked for, like, literally, word-for-word, then maybe you don't deserve to be playing games like this.
"Blizzard, we want an item that adds a socket to our weapons." "Okay, here you go!" "WTF, Blizz? Now all my old weapons SUCK!" Just stop fucking posting if that's how it's going to be.
It would make far more sense to allow all weapons to have 5 affixes and guarantee a socket on every weapon (thereby just allowing you to reroll one of the four stats you don't like) instead of creating an item whereby if your weapon rolls a socket, you reroll the socket for another stat, then use the item to add a socket back to the weapon.
RG was a great idea if it could be applied to any item. Then it was a segue for a gem revamp. The way it's being implemented right now is fucking stupid.

this is what you aren't getting... with the Gift, you HAVE a guaranteed socket. simply adding another affix probably goes against what they're trying to accomplish. more items rolling more stats means that people will be finding those better items practically right off the bat. or on the opposite side of the spectrum, someone is unfortunate enough to have 2 shitty rolls on their items all the time, they're still screwed. a lot of weapons do drop with 4 non socket stats (this is what i was referring to with the salvaging good items). and your #3 on that list is more or less how it will function, since rolling 4 affixes on an item will allow you to reroll one of them and then add a 5th (socket).... there isn't anything wrong with the way #4 functions, all this is saying is "i can't use my current weapon right off the bat because i had bad (or good?) RNG to roll a socket, mainstat, average damage, and another useless stat that i can roll into whatever i want." this is how i see it as complaining. if you look at the RG as an inconvenience because you have to put out more effort to find a new weapon that rolls in such a way that allows you to get 5 stats, then you're simply complaining.
i wouldn't consider rolling off a socket and replacing it with another socket to be illogical... silly, maybe, but not illogical. you can still have the socket on it. like i've said i've found plenty of items that were good, but i had no way to put a socket on it because all the other 4 stats that were on it were what i'd want to have on it. the RG IS a guaranteed socket. the point is, you see how it will function, and the next patch is at a minimum of a month away. in your journeys through the burning hells, keep an eye out for a perfect candidate for a RG, enough said.
Also, i'm well aware of how the mystic works. as far as i know, however, the mystic can't add a 5th stat. so this doesn't work, because my almost awesome item needs the stats that it came with, plus a socket. simply being able to add it with the RG seems more logical in this instance.
>RG's will be rare.
>the presence of RG and some people being able to utilize them to technically get "5primary stats" for their weapons doesn't make your 4primary stat weapon obsolete. theirs just becomes better, yours doesnt get worse.
>again, i dont see RGs falling like rain
>it's good that it isnt applicable to ammys and rings so people would have a choice on which stats to sacrifice in lieu of legendary gems
my only peeve is that no weapon should have a guaranteed socket anymore.
.... I could go on. But removing a socket so that you can add a socket is one of the stupidest series of actions one could take - it literally doesn't make a goddamned bit of sense at all. I don't know why you're defending it as anything other than stupid. What sense does it make to remove a socket.... so that you can add a socket? To me it makes none at all. At the very least, with the introduction of RG, socket rolls should be disabled on weapons so that we're not removing sockets just to go back and re-add them.
The socket property is completely inferior in every single case because RG is always superior. So, at the very lest, fix that problem.

ok... so disable the socket rolls on items and make RGs drop like hot cakes. or just have sockets roll on everything. or you could just make an item that sockets a weapon for you and not have to alter the way items drop overall. teh latter seems like what blizz wants to do. counter-intuitive or not, i'd like to be able to get 4 good stats on a weapon, and be able to add a socket. you speak as though all items that drop are good. you wouldn't use a RG on an item that you roll a socket off of, have a wasted stat, and roll something desired in place of the given socket (in other words, waste it). you'd want to use it (especially if they're rare as balls) on a weapon that, if given the proper rolls, you can roll a given socket off for that other stat that makes it the best the weapon could be.
what about the people that don't find any RGs? what then are they to do if they remove the socket roll on a weapon? now that seems illogical, backwards, convoluted, asinine.
at most the only thing which would make this better executed is removing the guaranteed sockets on weapons that currently always drop with a socket. this limits you to requiring a perfect roll in order to utilize the reroll on the given socket for a preferred stat.
Also, doesn't it amplify the difference between DW and non-DW builds?
The whole thing smells weird.

If you get as many of them as you get weapons, then yes, the system is flawed.. If it's an extremely rare drop, it's fine.
