i dont get it after 2 weeks that they havnt done a single maintenance now they did 8 hours maintenance and there is no patch? specially when the rifts now are pretty shitty and we need the new patch for the better blood shard from higher torment and torment legendary caches? blizzard dropped the ball big time
You that thing they do every few weeks, for all there games what was it called it again...oh yea server maintenance something that we really needed, even though after it was over there were some connectivity problems again anyway.
they do maintenance on weekly basis on Tuesday and its around 3-5 hours and when they patching up the games hey do 8-10 hours maintenance that what doesnt make sense to me why 8 hours if you only doing maintenance...
What you need to bear in mind is that you have no idea whatsoever of the logistics behind running such a massive endeavor as is maintaining Diablo 3 servers.
I don't mean that as an insult, I have no clue either. What I do know is that I have an appreciation for the logistics behind such things. As well, I'm humble enough to proclaim I have no fucking idea what needs done during these outages. I am, however, also humble enough to assume whatever time it is down was ultimately required.
If it makes people feel better to picture the Three Stooges bumbling around a crowded server room tripping on wires and slapping each other while saying "NYUCK NYUCK NYUCK"....well then so be it.
I understand some people are not in IT, so they don't understand the reason for maintenance. Simply put, sometimes admins need to do work to keep the environment working or to change code/settings that don't directly relate to the function of the application. This is okay. This reason, as well as content releases, are why they have a weekly maintenance window. If they do not have anything that must be done (or something isn't ready for release), then they can choose not to utilize the window that week.
In short, there is absolutely no need to rage about a long maintenance that didn't release content. There are plenty of other things that you can during that time that can be productive or related to Diablo (research new build/gear combos, etc.). Just let Blizz do the work they need to do so they can prepare for the next content release.
First of all im a system administrator certified by microsoft so i know about servers... not blizzard scales(over 400 servers) but yeah you get the point... but within those 8 hours they didnt only maintenance guaranteed they probably laying the foundation for a future patch but its odd that they didnt release anything, or they did a major server testing , monitoring and testing their weak spots that are under DDoS attacks. well until a blue post i guess we will never know but yeah i got pretty pissed off that they didnt release the patch that im really waiting for since the rifts are getting pretty boring sick and tired of farming meaningless t2-3
you guys should have known there wasnt going to be a patch We always have it datamined on the front page a few days before it goes live if there were one

Yep. This is why I call this home base over that godforsaken cesspool of an open sewer called Bnet. Y'all got your finger on the pulse.
When you're patching such a large intricate game such as the games Blizzard deals with on such a mass scale I'd imagine you'd want to patch a large number of things as infrequently as possible. All patching one minor item at a time does is slow down the entire process. Look at the big picture. You change even the most tiny thing and it can impact a lot of different systems. It's better for them to just play test and release 20 different changes all at once and release them in one big lump sum, then it is to slowly release mini patches that just fix one or two items. Every time the game client changes there is a pandora's box of problems that could go wrong, so doing that as infrequently as possible is the way to go. In the end it takes a lot less effort that can go into other things that we want changed. It sucks to have to wait, but it makes sense to me in the end.
I have 7040 achievement point (96%) and I am itching badly for them to patch the broken ones, but I understand why it's taking so long. They might already have a fix for them ready to go, but I can see why they might want to release it in 2.1 (or whatever it will be called) with a whole slew of other changes as well.
So you're mad because RoS didn't get a content patch in the first four weeks?
Really?
Really?
Me too. Actually, I totally assumed Diablo 4 was being patched in Tuesday.
funny arent ya...
they dont need to patch that much for content they just need the minor adjustment that they are suppose to do and its not that overwhelming on their databases since they are just tweaking exsisting content... like more bloodshards adding to horadric caches the torment legenderies isnt a huge data change its basic work that they are doing all the time they could of patched it easly... mabye they want to add more content so they delayed the patch
Any one know about the current emergency maintenance in EU servers? Can't see it being an ingame fix etc as the US hasn't had it.
Lag and DDOS related or?
Online only can suck major ass sometimes.
Also, server architecture is shared in several cases, thus Hearthstone sometimes being down for the same period a massively more complex game like WoW is.
Yes they are addressing the issues of DDoS attacks and the sudden disconnects of players they have internal issues with their servers and thats why they are doing the maintenance right now

What the hell does being a Windows Sys Admin have anything to do with maintaining a larger server farm of a multi million dollar application? Tell ya what when you are in charge of deploying a multi million dollar application then maybe you would have a clue.
When you see extended down times it usually means they ran into a possible future issue. So do you spend an extra 3 hours to fix it now or do you have another 5 hour down time at a later date.
You post just exudes selfishness. You are mad that they didn't give YOU what YOU wanted...hahahahaha
nasty picture BTW, but i had a good laugh and hope i don't get fired from work now!! LOL
anyways, this was probably the only time i have deemed a maintenance productive on blizzards account. i dont know about anyone else but after the connection problems were gone the lag went down too. maybe i was just in diablo denial.. who knows.

Was another game patched? Sometimes when they have 8 hour maintenance, it turns out they were patching StarCraft or something.
