Yes, it works. You need to use a control mapper (xpadder, pinnacle) to play with shield controls. Remote Game Stream works fine, obviously there's going to be lag, depending on your home connection.
Mobile hotspot? I haven't looked into it in a while, but I know that not long ago (2 years ago, maybe), wireless data latency was still a pretty major issue for gaming. Latency and bandwidth are not the same thing.
Bandwidth would be, do you download at 1 megabits per second, 5 megabits, 10 megabits? Half a megabit? That's bandwidth.
Latency is how long it takes to make a trip from point A, to point B, and (I believe) back to point A again. The lower the number, typically represented in milliseconds, the better. This is your latency. This is also known as your ping. Note, though, that using the TCP/IP ping utility itself only passes ICMP traffic, and some networks place a lower priority on that traffic or block it all together, so it's not the greatest measure of latency because when you're gaming you're not worried about ICMP traffic at all.
Phone calls, video chats, and gaming are all great examples of latency dependent activities.
Now, having said all of that, most mobile data plans also limit the amount of data you can transfer per month. Some carriers will throttle, or slow you down significantly, after you reach a certain thresh hold. Other carriers will just start charging overages. You may also want to read the fine print to see what types of traffic is allowed. I expect gaming is fine, but you may want to double check that..
The easiest and quickest way to test? Enable mobile hotspot on your smart phone, login, and play.. An hour or two of gaming shouldn't cause you issues with your bill, and should give you a decent idea whether or not it's really going to work long term for you or not.
My expectation is that using mobile 3G/4G will probably be OK for softcore, albeit perhaps a bit annoying at times, and probably not recommended at all for hardcore.
I purchased the shield but I am having trouble even starting the game up. I see it under the PC Games section on the shield but when I try to load any pc game not just diablo 3 it sits there with the loading icon moving the entire time until i cancel it, Any ideas?
