i just got this on my wizard. with int area damage and life on hit. i can roll the life on hit to socket for myself... how viable is it on a frozen orb wizard? what does that proc exactly do for a cold proc? would it be more worth giving to my friend that plays barb/monk? even though they cant get a socket on it.... trying to figure out where it would be best used. i have a azurewrath for my wizard with 18% cold damage... would losing that 18% be worth the proc on a frost wizard?
This weapon is awesome for electrocute /fo wiz. The procc is 100% up. So for every electrocute you'll see the little shocks on the ground which deal massive amounts of damage (2-5mio per hit). And the frozen skull shoots out with every frozen orb. It's not really visible if you not shoot at something but if you have an elite try shooting in another direction than the elite stands and the frozen skull will find it's way to the elite and hit for around 2mio+ aswell. Since my weapon dps is (SADLY) <2k those values my vary with a better dps.
Alkaizer has said on stream that he would use Shard over Thunderurry on his Barb. I just cant find any decent streaming wizards to ask their opinion on it and Jaetch is always afk when i try to message him =(
The extra ability from the shard of hate, if the proc rate is anything other than complete crap, will do more damage than 19% cold damage.
Math would be if all your frozen spells (frozen orb) do 19% more damage, how many spells would you have to cast to do more than 1 proc (which would be 212%+Cold damage percent.) Using 212%, the proc would have to be greater than about 10% (not taking into account crit or anything because I don't feel like doing complicated math.) If it is 100% as mentioned, it is absolutely better (obviously roll a socket instead of life on hit.)

I would get socket for sure over the LoH. Also i can change to a lightning generator to proc the lightning side of it as well and use a thundergods vigor since theres no cold damage belt
Damn, that Shard even has 2k+ Life on Hit. That would be sick with my Mirrorball right now (I'm hitting for 3-4 times my LoH on every hit with Magic Missile).
Gotta also take into account the freeze effect from the Azurewrath when comparing both. Paired with a good proccing skill (like a triple Magic Missile), it can effectively stunlock a lot of enemies.
I looted the Shard of Hate, except it sucks compared to my Thunderfury. The Shard of Hate I got rolled strength and no sockets, so I had to reroll the strength to a socket. Plus, the base damage was 2100 compared to my Thunderfury's 2400.
However, the procs from Shard of Hate trigger quite often, at least that's what I see visually. It can be quite nifty for multielemental builds. The issue with the procs, however, is that the lightning one has good AOE, but little range. The cold one has phenomenal range, but little AOE (one downside to that is that it's hard to control which way it fires when you proc it). I haven't seen the poison one yet since wizards don't have poison skills.
Thunderfury, on the other hand, has ridiculous range, deals more weapon damage per proc, but doesn't proc as often as Shard of Hate's.
Fwiw, i just put it on my WD to see what the proc is like, its EXACTLY like the andy's proc and has an INSANELY small range.
I've done a good bit of game play with the Shard of Hate on a wizard and I feel like its an "OK" weapon to have, its very good for low torment farming in a lightning build, Electrocute - Arc Lightning. If you get right up into melee range and all the procs hit the same target(s), its an insane amount of damage. But this comes at the cost of not having an amazing lightning dump if you go full on % lightning stack on your gear. I feel like an Azurewrath with at least 18% or higher cold damage heavily outweighs Shard of Hate, for a Frozen Orb build. As Jaetch said, the cold proc is good damage but a ridiculously small hit box. The lightning proc is ok, but you have to be right in the middle of everything to get good use out of it.
TL;DR:
Use whatever weapon gives you the most damage for your build, don't use this on a Wizard for the proc alone, you can't utilize it all that well. Not like a Barbarian or Monk can.
On a positive note, I can put my Int Shard of Hate on my Barb alt as an ok off-hand lol.
TL,DR. Keep it.
Which should i use??? :3
With Azurewrath, i have ~110% Cold/Orb damage
Is it better than Thunderfury?

Oh, goodie, no clear-cut choices! Love it.
Edit, this is the one I have:
