Just a thought, i'm dual-wielding atm on my barb and feel like it's basically impossible for me to find a 2H that would out-do the additional stats I gain from having a second gem now that weapons can no longer roll CHD. The easiest fix I can see to this is allowing 2hs to roll 2 sockets and therefore giving them an equal amount of stats as 2 1hs which I assume is supposed to be the goal otherwise why would I ever wear a 2h?

That seems like a pretty simple solution to implement, I can't see any major reason why that wouldn't go some way to making them more viable.
One potential problem is that Crusader will be running round with very high powered one handers. I haven't tried out crusader enough to know if this could be an issue or not though.
This will not happen, there are reasons to use a 2 hander for builds, and not just on crusaders. People worry to much about there sheet damage and neglect raw weapon damage. Most WD or Wiz will never give up a source and I dont blame them, things like apoc or mana regen are extremely useful. There are diabos and 2 handers for monks and barbs though that are build changers and work extremely well.
If you make it so 2h can have 2 sockets, then you almost force WD/wiz into using 2h items. Consider yourself lucky that you can have 2 weapons with sockets and just go with that.

then they could just make off-hands not including shields count as a weapon slot when it comes to gems in order to keep running 1h/oh competitive with 2h. All i'm saying is it seems a bit silly to make one weapon type completely out-class another they should both be balanced and viable and it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to at least close the gap a little.
I'd actually prefer that they made dual wield and use of 2hers mutually-exclusive class-specific options. They'd still have to balance things, but then it would be on a class-by-class basis and not necessarily as much "fixing 2hers vs 1hers."
I tend to agree except I think there is room to expand the customization further... sticking with the idea of allowing 2 sockets on a 2Hander.. the first would be the MAIN SOCKET gem and the second would be the SECONDARY SOCKET gem. The effect of the gem placed in each socket would not be the same!! (So you wouldn't have +200% CD)
In the case of two 1 handed weapons/sources/shields they should be broken down into Main hand and Off hand.
Any weapon can be used in either hand (or if the 2hander has 2 sockets) but the effect of the gems placed into a MAIN HAND/SOCKET might be different to effects of gems placed into the OFF HAND/SECONDARY SOCKET.
You could have things like
Main hand or socket - Emerald +100% Crit Damage
Offhand or socket- Emerald +5% attack speed.
Main hand or socket- Diamond + CD reduction
Offhand or socket- Diamond Chill on hit
Main hand or socket- Ruby +100 damage
Offhand or socket- Ruby Chance to bleed for 200% Weapon Damage.
(I'll leave it to the creative types to think of better effects)

WDs hate fast weapons (which is why our class specific weapon is an insult). We have only 1 skill that can generate resources based on weapon speed, and that's the Mana Spiders (which few use).
Which is why most WDs run slow ass weapons, with mucho damage/swing, cause our damage is limited by out mana, nothing else. And the slower the weapon the more damage/mana we get.
There is an exception though. Running with the spirit mana regen passives. If you are using that only and nuking mainly with spirit spells, your attackspeed doesn't matter, cause you have infinite mana while using that skill.
The only problem atm with 1h + offhand vs. 2h is that a decent 1h + offhand = almost perfect 2h. This could be fixed in many ways. Like buffing the legendary effects on 2handers, giving an extra socket (but not for 2handed flails, for example), giving 1 extra roll or buffing the existing rolls a bit.
Just keep in mind that perfect 1h + offhand SHOULD be better (but not by such a huge margin as it's now for WDs), cause it's a lot harder to get.
P.S. On my current WD (paragon 80 or something) has NEVER used a 1handed weapon. Neither did the last 2 (I played HC).
Fetishes are insanely powerful and spawn much faster using fast weapons with firebats. Can also get +28 regen from off-hand + knife which offsets the increased costs.
