i see this move as a way to finally balance CC and CHD with this change, they could possibly cut the CHD on all new items by half and still have them be better then most legacy items due to them not being enchanable anymore. and this is a good thing as the gearing options (for damage) is so redicolous booring right now.
with everything centred around 2(3stats) CC and CHD (main stat.) any item that could roll CC/CHD but didn't is pretty much a crap item. and not usefull in most setups. and this aint a fun game to play vanilla had/has the same problem.
Now with this change they can potentially change it so that CHD ain't so damn strong.
but i do agree that permanently locking all theses items out from being enchanted is a bad idea, and could be solved by only letting em roll lvl 60 stats and not lvl 70 stats. sure it would be a hidden system but this game got plenty of them anyway.
The biggest thing that makes lvl 60 legendarys so good is the crazy amount of CHD on them and APS to some extent. and this is where the focus of nerfing and balancing things should be focused on. But it seems that blizzard don't wanna do another attack speed % lash back. i understand em but if they dont fix CHD in some way this game will be forever broken in terms of gearing.

ALL YOU P2W GEAR SUCKS DICK NOW IN ROS HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
That really does sum it up.
They were all so trying to beat the system hoarding up that stuff pre-RoS, and with the stroke of a key Blizzard rendered it all useless. The ocean of tears and hate on the official forums feeds my withered black heart and makes me giggle like a school-girl.

Yepp, i knew something would probably happen, so i only saved some decent rolled of the reported "OP" legendarys just in case they dident nerf em in anyway just to not be to far behind the curve. Tho i saved a lot more items with item affixes that aren't avalible anymore after RoS hits. and hopefully i can min/max something fun with em, but it will be severly limited by not being able to enchant them.
rather this then having the top 1% 60 items be extremly viable or even BiS (somebuilds) at 70. it is a sad day however.

Seriously, the only other thing they could have done is make it so the first time a legacy item is rerolled the entire thing is rerolled with 2.0.1 stats. That would have been met with the same wailing and gnashing of teeth.
My only regret is I was liquidating ALL of my items prior to RoS, none of them were really great, but they were slowly selling...this will likely put an end to that...oh well.
This is hurting the credit card warriors the most, and anything that hurts the credit card warriors is a grade "A" win in my book. You can see it everywhere this is being discussed, all of the arguments boil down to them being amazingly butthurt that all of their attempts to pay to win are being shot down by Blizzard.
That, and I'm sure more than a few of them were planning to sell some of those OP legacy items closer to RoS release and that was also snatched away from them.
Because if we reroll our old gear we will have good ger, not BIS gear but good gear.
And we all now that we WONT get good drops, so with our old enchanted gear we would still have an option to have solid gear to play in ROS.
I really like this game and i have never been so upset about any decision that they made as i m today.
I dont think you experienced the beta than, you can easily gear for Torment 3 with strong rares you gamble from Kadala, thats not even counting your actual drops. There is no problem for a fresh toon with no gear to go 1-70 and be ready for torment in a matter of hours, the old legacy gear aint gona old you back one bit. The only reason to be upset about the changes are these:
-Did not experience the ease of entry level gear on the beta, im talking plain rare here, work just fine and with the right build every class can take on t1-3, almost immediately after reaching level cap.
-Spend ridiculous amount of money for video game pixels that will be deleted, while knowing it was gona happen eventually from the start. In essence you are more mad at yourself than you are at blizzard, that rage has to go somewhere however.
Bagstone nailed it. Blizzard made a good decision restricting Legacy Items to be rerolled with level 70 stats so we can finally move on from the bad and overpowered items we have in Vanilla. RoS is meant to be a new start for the itemization and killing the old imbalanced gear is harsh but necessary.
And can streamers stop ralling their troops on this site? We already had "Give XXX or riot" stupidity born from Twitch.tv. If some of you want to post on forums, try to post more than a +1, a catchphrase or a Kappa (oh, we don't have those, thanks god).

That's not the point. The point is that Blizzard basically acknowledges that legacy items are, or let me rephrase, have the POTENTIAL to be more powerful than the SUPPOSEDLY NEW AND IMPROVED Loot 2.0 items. What does that tell you?
It tells me that Legacy items have no place in the new item system.. which is a lot different.

It tells me they made some mistakes in itemization and stat rolling and they are now course correcting to prevent runaway stat inflation. Next question?

Jamoose clicked on the +1 button exactly at the same time as I did. I felt like I had the power to give +2. Awesome!
@MC: Your videos are really quite informative and you come across as a decent, calm guy. But on the forums you just lose your temper and it's eventually up to Blizzard to take action when you go beyond the rules. Sorry for the ban, but after a couple of rage posts it was kinda justified. Should've taken a deep breath and explained your point of view in humble words. That thread had great potential, now it might even get locked soon because it's not constructive anymore.
@Topic: This was more than obvious, and in all these threads asking for which level 60 items to buy now for RoS it was mentioned that eventually Blizzard will do something to prevent that legacy items are gonna be useful. Really, no one can say "didn't see that coming". Two more things:
1) You say "if level 60 items are better than level 70 items, fix level 70 items first instead of preventing enchanting". Well, the reason why some legacy items are so good is just because they were absolutely broken and overpowered. There's nothing to fix at level 70, the problem lies within the level 60 itemization. Items like Mempo and Witching Hour are just too strong. It's just not possible to "fix level 70" and make people go away from a WH if you were even able to enchant that belt. I said it all along, enchanting legacy items had to be restricted in order to avoid these situations of keeping "broken" items. Just like with BoA, they went full tilt mode with no enchanting at all - but in this case, I can understand it.
2) I can't believe some of the things I read over there. A few people are arguing they have a right to hold on to legacy items and enchant them because this is what they have been doing since F&F beta. Holy crap, whoever uses this as an argument should never get invited to a beta again. Any beta invite has huuuuuuuuge disclaimers that absolutely everything is subject to change. If you enter any beta, draw your conclusions, and prepare your live character with the assumption that the current state of the beta will look the same once the game is released, you simply don't understand what beta means. You're testing stuff, you've not been given a glimpse into the future to get an advantage over other people.
I personally welcome this change. Just like BoA I can see that a lot of people will be upset, but I think it's necessary. I was also relieved to see someone like INVIS posting in favor of this change - let's face it, he will probably lose dozens of billions due to this change, but he understands why this is the best solution.
This should be the guy who speaks for us, Not Manner.
Get ready for change, that is what an expansion does.
My gear wont be useful anymore....big deal...lol...
Farming game is suppose to be about farming and getting new things.
Not using these crappy D3V items, which will eventually be shit anyways even with re-forge
It would have been fun to reroll... Remember upping things in d2? it was fun! it's not a game breaker but why just disable something when you could just as easily limit it or allow only 60 gems to be used with them. It's just lazy to disable everything...
Out with the old - in with the new! How can this seriously be a problem to anyone anywhere?
The only people who are upset that I could even imagine are...
1. RMAH pay to win players for BIS gear.
2. People who were all excited about being super OP at first are now not going to have to be the same as the rest of us...having to obtain new items.
3. Complainers need something to complain about.
Seriously as you said, out with the old, in with the new.
That's an expansion for you, new content, new items, new process.
Why limit options though? If they thought it would be a huge issue why not just patch it after game launch.
And how would players get a "head start" it's a PVE game... Unless there is meaningful PVP it doesn't matter in the slightest how sweet players gear is...

Agreed with both Bagstone and Seifa, exactly on the money for what they intended. Another thing we need to keep in mind, posted it elsewhere a while ago (sorry if others have mentioned it here).
The 2.0 pre-expansion patch is going to come out BEFORE Reaper of Souls releases. Meaning for a period of time, people will be able to acquire level 60 items that, at least for now on the PTR, have been kicking the junk out of some my best level 60 items in the live game, my Monk's Skorn notwithstanding. Thus, it's entirely plausible that if people put a fair and reasonable amount of time into playing the 2.0 patch before RoS releases, people will have a nice amount of Loot 2.0 Rares, possibly even a few legendaries, that ARE Enchantable, BEFORE Reaper of Souls raises the level cap to 70 and higher level items start dropping,
Meaning, unless there are people who are adamantly refusing to play the 2.0 patch and are insisting on ONLY playing Reaper of Souls, this feels like a major non-issue.
I plan on playing D3 with the 2.0 patch, and many of my characters are itching for Loot 2.0 upgrades. By the time I unlock the Mystic, and can even Enchant AT ALL, I may very well have most of my characters' items on board with Loot 2.0/expansion versions. Besides...Enchanting "Legacy" items isn't going to have nearly as much use as saving my materials for Enchanting level 70 versions anyway.

Don't know about you but I sure don't have the gold to waste on a bunch of items that will be obsolete within one day of playing....

Not saying it wouldn't be nice to Enchant Legacy items, but like I said in my comment...chances are good I'll have much of my gear upgraded to Loot 2.0 anyway, and per the Blue post that announced this change...Loot 2.0 gear WILL be enchantable.
In the next Beta patch, Legacy items (or items that drop prior to Patch 2.0.1) will no longer be able to be enchanted. This was a decision we ultimately made because certain Legacy items, when enchanted, became disproportionately strong compared to new items, which isn’t the intent.
However, there’s an interesting “bug,” if you’d like to call it, that will result from this change in the next Beta patch – all items gained up until the patch will no longer be able to be enchanted. This is an artifact of the fix implementation, and we felt it prudent to communicate this as soon as we could for those of you in the Beta. All items that drop in Patch 2.0.1 and forward will be able to be enchanted, so this shouldn’t be an issue as we move into the live patch and onward to the expansion launch.
