So I've taken a long hiatus from diablo 3 and have recently come back due to the much needed refreshing changes. I have noticed some legendary's and set items will get buffed in ROS 2.0 so my question is:
does anyone know the answer or heard anything regards to what will happen to our current legendary's and set items? Will they become "LEGACY" aka useless tools like previous patches or will they be hot fixed and retain value. I play HC where gold/ value is a bit different
Any leg/set items <61 will able to be broken down to brimstone.
I would imagine that most will be useless once you have RoS with a few exceptions mainly for twinking, especially the Inferno level Whimseyshire items with damage rolls (as I believe new Whimseyshire legs will roll at char level rather than lvl30?) and pre-loot2.0 Hellfire rings.

Yeah, I'm very glad I have 4 pre-loot 2.0 Hellfire Rings, one for each mainstat. Don't necessarily use them all, but the Strength one will come in very handy when leveling a Crusader.
well there are a select few items that will be half competitive in RoS. but only in damage. anything VS EHP is basicly worthless.
some items that if rolled top 10% will be good in RoS that i know of is.
Witching Hour, CHD and APS scales extremly well.
Crit chance Mempho with this will probably be replaced rather fast.
Levling items like a 500+ dps spectrum horadric hamburger could make levlning easier for sure. but not required.
lvl 60 hellfire ring. is good to get as it will be pretty hard to get Sub 70. keys might drop from 1-69 i have not tested it tho. (atm it seems like it can only roll 3 primary stats on ptr/beta)
A full set of magic find with decent damage could be good to get also as pretty much all sources of magic find will be gone. (there are some gear like lvl 70 cains set 100% MF and Nagelring 50% MF, could be other items also but dont have a full list)
There are probably a few class specific skill bonuses HotA and Zombie Dogs Comes to mind.
Dont take my word for it but in the end all the best gear will be lvl 70 items, unless you wanna go extremely glass cannon.

No one is considering to wear MF gear while farming. (At least no one with a bit of sanity left.) MF gear is rather nice for those who decide to switch gear before getting caches or gambling, though no one knows if MF affects either of this.
Thanks Vomica for being among the very few who realizes that on level 70 even BiS level 60 gear will probably not prevail, at least not in the long run. I've seen way too many people screaming "keep item/set X"... I think a lot of people are wasting millions (if not billions) on gear that'll be trashed in early April (even salvaging won't be worth it).
indeed, Witching hour is probably the only item that will be good for a long time at least for pure DPS due to its Critical Hit Damage + attack speed
i bought out some items that have completly changed its mods also just for laughts and perhaps min max some odd build.
like doombringers 8% block + legacy justice lantern. for 16% additional block.
Echoing fury for its attack speed mod + CHD + Fear (could be usefull as an off hand weapon for some build but probably worthless. The fear could be good for some build but possibly better alternatives)
Frostburns 30% cold Skill damage and +6% cold damage could be usefull armor will be re-rolled to main stat or APS/CC. (new ones only caps at 20% cold skill damage but is probably better overall) they are cheep tho.
Stone of jordan is a tricky one as it directly boosts Elite damage by 30% and also gives resources along with a skill bonus (most are bad in RoS but some are usefull) will be good early expantion but will probably be replaced pretty fast but can be a good boost in some fights.
As for sets they are all almost pretty useless. except for legacy legacy Nats with its 2 Dispipline/s bonus. could build some hilarious build with it but nothing to good.
these are just some of the items that i have invested in just for Laughts and serious play and perhaps a future impossible without legacy builds. Mainly the close to zero recourse costs or Cooldown times.
along with a block% set, unless there is a second Ros Block% ring and weapon.
TD:LR / Bottom line: get items that you think is fun to use, for min-maxing odd stats like Resource / Cooldown / BlockJust dont do it for pure power, it will not pay out in the end. as im pretty sure CHD will be Nerfed / Changed / Caped (main problem for OP lvl 60 items (and even scaling at lvl 70 in general)

I don't think the "average Joe" realizes that as you equip these new legendary/set items with their awesome bonuses that your crit chance and crit damage are going to go DOWN which makes them less valuable which means that some of these items (Inna's pants comes to mind, trifecta gloves, rings, and amulets also come to mind) simply won't be as good.
No one is going to keep some crit chance or crit damage over letting Ray of Frost pierce through enemies, or over letting chill effects have a 50% chance to freeze - provided that those items are pertinent to the builds they're using. I've been recently thinking about using that 50% chance for chill effects to freeze on my WD with Phantasm (so cool that it's frost damage now, no pun intended). The intangible survivability boost I'd gain from that is huge.
One thing that dawned on me today is that not having beta access, the PTR is highly frustrating from an item game because most of the stuff I find is garbage... because I don't really have access to as many of these legendaries with those "must-have" properties as I would if I were in the beta. At 60 it's still crit, crit damage, attack speed, and life leech because of the items whose minimum level is 61+ and, thereby, unavailable.
This *definitely* gives the impression to people who are just playing at 60 that you should just use the enchanter to "upgrade" existing level 60 items, but I really, really, really doubt that's going to be all that common. It might be for a month or two, and some items may even last a long while into RoS, but those will almost certainly be very few and far between.
just a pointer i have accses to BETA and im in full legendary gear atm not the best perhaps but still and im sitting at 47% crit chance and 380% CHD. and everythign that can roll CRIT and CHD but does not is just pretty much worthless damage vise,
My dream would be that Splash + attack speed and CDR/RCR + avarage damage could rival CC and CHD. but ATM everything but CC and CHD is a lost cause. And i realy hope the balance this out in the end.
and this is why some LVL 60 items are so good still. High Main stat helps a lot to neglect lvl 60 items. But its not enough for some.

The old Legacy Nats will **get you one shot or miss 1/3 of your dexterity**, is the correct thing. That bonus is not even great in PTR 2.0.1, let alone at lvl 70, Id take the new nat in a heart beat even if they had the same stats, unending Rain of vengeance > discipline regen that you dont really need (gear is flooded with + discipline and nobody even use shadow power anymore, if you had not noticed yet).
Im not even sporting any of the passives that regen discipline and i have too much for what i can do with it on the beta, i dont get what OP you could get from that set, aside from terrible stats.

It could work OK with Mystic re-rolling some stats and maybe that -1 to set items ring but I agree that it definitely won't be OP, but I'm still gona save a set. Would be nice in PvP, just saying...

Existing items will not be changed and become "legacy", yes.
