This may have been brought up but here goes........
I think I consider my self a casual player, I play when I get home from work to relax and enjoy a game to get my mind off the real world for a few hours. I have played D2 since before LOD and was tickled pink when D3 was released. But the thing is not much has changed really, you grind for hours to get a slight up grade which is tedious. I don't expect to find great gear hourly, once or twice a week be nice considering I like playing all characters for different play styles and use of a bigger range of items.
My problem right now is that even tho my highest character is plvl60 I can not find anything that makes this game fun. I am not one of the top elite players who have the best gear and can play in MP10 and have better chances of more legs. I am lucky if I find one or two legs in a whole night of playing. People go on about how easy the game is and legs fall like rain bla bla bla but they are not casual players.
This game is being catered to elite gamers with end game being for them. I have not done hell fire ring or Pony land because I am simply unable to play on that higher difficulty. The most gold I ever had was 55 mil because of one good item I found (from hundred of hours playing) that will not happen again with auction house closing.
Don;t get me wrong, I don;t want to come across as bitching or any thing, I like the game and I am looking forward to the upcoming patch and ROS but just wanted to convey what would make the game a little bit more fun/rewarding for the casual player. With the nerf to Bounty rewards now, does that now means grinding bounties to get the final Horodric cache reward?
I had the chance to play console and was looking forward to the better drops and upgrades but as soon as I got to 60 and finished Inferno I now struggle to find a leg or even one thats an up grade. I can not even play above Hard mode with out being raped.....is this the direction how D3 is going?
So hardcore players think the game is getting too easy, catering to casuals, won't have enough to do. And casuals think the game is too hard, too difficult to progress, rewards aren't good enough.

This forum sure is fun.
You mean every forum ^^
Well, not every one. But most WoW forums sure sound the same.
Just thought I'd chip in; the purpose of diablo 3 is not to make money so you can have BiS gear and roflstomp through mp10; the auction houses created this artificial feel and it came close to ruining the game for me. Thank GOD they will be removed, a little late, but hey, better late.
No, no, no. The purpose of D3 is to have fun killing monsters. You should not treat it like some mountain to be conquered, or like a chore. Just fucking have fun playing it. Blizz is trying to find the sweetspot to satisfy both hardcore and casual fanbases but that's impossible.
Sorry kiwi, but you are the minority on this one
1 : You can only speak for yourself about what is fun and how the game is "supposed" to be played.
2 : It's ridiculous to claim that somebody is in a minority when you dont have any numbers to back it up.
3 : the purpouse of the game is different for everybody.
Just read bandyto's post and the word "novice" was the eye-opener for me. So yeah, there's something below casual, and that's novice, and I say that with the best intentions.
Novice is not "above" or "below" anything, Novice just means that you are new to the game. "Caslal" is not "below" anything either, it's just a game style. Everybody can enjoy the game the way he gets most entertainement from.

I'm not really sure what to tell you - I have two 60's on the console and they both switched to Master I after completing Hell mode with no trouble. I can't even imagine what your experience is like if you're struggling in Hard.
After I'd done Inferno (Master I) a few times, the drops did become more sparse, but that's the nature of the game. All players get to that point, and it's just up to you how far you want to go.
For what it's worth, Easy / Normal / Hard don't have any bonuses associated with them on the console (Master I-V adds MF/GF/EXP bonuses) so if you're having trouble on Hard there's no harm in going back to Normal.
You'll get plenty of legendary drops, however there are going to be a lot you might not see for 400 hours or more. Wyatt was overheard talking about such drop rates at Blizzcon.
It's a bit like the BotD situation. Everyone wanted it, sure, but what they got in the meantime was pretty great. I wonder which legs dropping like candy in the beta, comprise this uber-rare tier?
You have a paragon 60 character and have played for "hundred[s] of hours". You are not a casual player. That's not a put down, you are just underrating your play a bit.
Edit: Discussing who and who is not casual is a deep hole of forum discussion that has been around since the early days of WoW. If I had to guess based on those experiences, I would put the casual player as someone who plays a couple hours a week (at most) and has dabbled in Hell difficulty, Inferno if you are really really stretching the definition.
Things like Adventure Mode that provide goals/rewards for session gameplay (an hour-ish at most) is perfect for this crowd.

Flame suit on.....flame away
This forum sure is fun.
The point is to not make bounties the end-all most effective way to play the game..
