Demonic Essence Farming post 1.0.8?

  • #1
    Hi guys!
I was not sure where to post this, so I went for general discussion forum.
Also, I chose to ask this myself and not rely on older posts since things might be different as of 1.0.8.

My situation is clear and simple:
I have absolutely no interest in killing mobs, clearing acts and other forms of funless waste of time in the PvE area. My sole interest lies with the PvP in this game, since doing battle against real humans is what I consider fun. However, I came to the realization that to really compete in PvP one has to obtain the best items, and alas, the majority of these are all crafted account bound items as it stands right now.

    My question:
So I have a budget of over 1 billion to build one character to farm Demonic Essences.
I would like to ask which class I should use, what build and what farming spot?
Preferably, the farming should resemble something along the lines of Meph runs in D2 if possible, so that I could jump in the game and do a couple of runs "on the go".
The most important criteria is that I would like to spend as little time in PvE and obtain as many Demonic Essences as possible.

I have a character of all classes at level 60 (the wizard is additionally paragon 95, but as far as I know Demonic Essence drops are not dependent on MF, right?)

Thank you very much for any help and suggestion!

    It's fine here.

    Wait, what? Majority?

Sure Shoulders, Amulets and Bracers have tons of potential, but the top Legendary items on those can still compete with these. It's not like you'll get stomped because you don't have the best crafted items.

Probably Barbs (due to WotB:ToC and having immunity to CC) or a CM Wiz, but I think Barbs have a slightly easier time not having to worry about Vortex/Nightmarish/Jailer. Basically ignore white mobs (use them just to keep WotB active with Tornadoes) and roflstomp Elites (preferably with a combination of Hammer of the Ancients and Rend imho).

And the place most recommended will probably still be Vault of the Assassin. Don't know of any place as good as that dungeon in Act 1/3.

The amounts of elite packs and rare champions does not increase with the monster density change. Vault of the Assassin or grinding warrior's rest would still be the best.

From my personal experience the chance of getting an essence doesn't get that much better on higher MPs to warrant the extra second it takes to kill a pack, so depending on your equip, something like MP4-6 would probably be optimal. Also when it comes to pure essence farming, a TR/Bell Monk is probably just as good or even slightly better than a Barb, because he reaches slightly higher runspeed (from what I can tell, tested it with a friend, TR+FoF+24ms beats non-marathon Sprint + WotB+24ms by a very slight margin) without having to worry about spirit and kills the elites just as fast.

As for the location, VotA all the way!

Random tip: Put a puzzle ring on your follower. Its not expensive, and you will get another chance for an essence every few runs.

So it seems with 1.0.8 the normal ways of farming Demonic Essences did not change.
    Thanks for all the responses!
