I don't get why anyone would want to play in A4 when you consider the horrendous type of elite that spawn there.
Yeah. Act 4 *density* is fine. The problem with Act 4 is that you're still slogging through countless stuns, armor debuffs, healing debuffs, teleports, off-the-screen charges, meteors from the sky, knockbacks.... and fucking Mallet Lords... and that's before you get to the ADDITIONAL special abilities on champs/rares.
The difficulty of the monsters in Act 4 as compared to 1-3 make it completely prohibitive to play in for most players.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I'm okay with A4 being the harder one since it's the last act, but they should definitely bump up the chance to drop loot on those fellas.
Stop thinking about efficiency.... start thinking about fun every once in a while. Obviously I farmed act 3 most of the time before 1.08, but sometimes I chose act 4 to get a change of scenery and play. I like act 4 a lot.
Human nature to look for the fastest way to reach a goal.
You set your own goals thoguh - having fun could be one.
But we want to have fun as fast as possible!!! :-P
While I would not even think about farming act 4, I think that act 3 is severely lacking too now. Almost feels like they did not buff act 3 at all when comparing it to weeping hollow or other buffed places in act 1 and 2.
Yes, I know, that was not the main priority. But I actualy liked act 3. I would still like to farm it ^^

We all have different definitions of fun, but to me, fun in this game is being able to do stuff with the highest chance of being rewarded lol.
I think the zombie-like type mobs (like in weeping hollow) have an unexpectedly high droprate in comparison to the mobs in fields of misery or other areas. Like they stick out in droprates, compared to the rest of the act. Am I alone in this suspicion?
I'm inclined to agree. There are a lot of them in the Decaying Crypts in Fields of Misery and the sheer amount of drops in there seems to be much higher than normal.
To answer your original concern, OP...I do agree to an extent, insofar as most of Act 4's more common areas have occasional stretches where there aren't many enemies. However, the two Hell Rift zones are each pretty packed.
I have to agree with some of the others mentioning monster types, elites, debuffs...I mean, the worst you're bound to see in Act 3 are Phasebeasts and Blood Clans. In Act 4, at least half of the monsters you encounter have really heavy hitting skills, debuffs, and if two elite packs attack you together, between their innate skills AND their elite affixes, it proves really dangerous for day to day "farming."
Personally, I like hitting Act 4 every so often because since the patch, Nekarat the Keywarden now drops random keys, so farming him isn't just "well, I need Act X key, so I need to go to Act X," it's just...big enemy, key is a great bonus, though I need to tune down the MP when I want to go there.
All in all, some of the changes in the patch seem to have some great effects.
1) NV and XP seem to be scaling more appropriately for monster type. I can slam a pack of tiny little shades or scorpions and not much happens for my XP, then again, big packs of goatmen and Savage Beasts in Act 1, or huger packs of snake guys in Act 2? Much bigger yield in XP.
2) While loot drop rates may have been decreased innately for smaller, easier enemies, killing LARGER packs of them still means MORE kills, which still tends to lead to MORE loot, and everyone loves more loot.
3) The way that they've fine-tuned monster density has really enhanced, at least to me, the precise level of difficulty that various monster types provide. Fighting one or two of anything at a time is pretty tame, and makes it easier, and doesn't require one to compensate one's battle strategy for specific behaviors. Fighting a giant pack of Retching Cadavers in Weeping Hollow in Act 1 can be tough, but not at all terrible. A giant pack of snakes in Act 2? Harder. A pack of Phasebeasts or Blood Clan in Act 3? Harder. A giant pack of those friggin Morlu wizard guys in Act 4? The hardest.
So bottom line, you're not wrong that Act 4 mob density could do with a bit of buffing in some areas, however given the increase they did add, and the difficulty of the monsters there, I think upping Act 4's desnsity any more would make far too big a jump in how much of a brick wall it is. Pre-patch, I used to be able to take my Monk and clear Cydaea, Xah'Rith, Azmo, Iskatu, Rakanoth, Izual and Diablo and not much blink. Tried that route since the patch, and wow, Act 4 is definitely more intense even with some extra monsters here and there. :-)
