(RM)AH Success Stories

  • #1
    Hi,

I am curious as to know a bit more about peoples experiences on the (RM)AH’s.

    1) How much gold do you currently have?
    2) How much Blizzard Account money do you have?
    3) Have you ever deposited real money?
    4) What has been your best ever sale?
    5) Do you like/enjoy the AH meta game?
    6) Do you have any good tips to give about the AH’s?

Please don’t reply with too many sarcastic remarks..

I will go first to be fair.
    1) 240 million
    2) $72
    3) No
    4) $42 to my pay-pal for some rare pants about 3 months ago
    5) Only recently because I started playing it for an hour a day everyday for the last month and have made at least 1 sale every day (Average sale is $3.50). (todays sale was a lvl 21 rare chest with 30 dex, 20 vit, +exp and 2 sockets for $4.10… which I bought for 200k gold..)
    6) Low level items sell a lot faster and for a better markup % than lvl60 items as there is less competition.

Would be interested to hear other peoples love/hate relationship with the AHs and
    success or failure stories.

    Cheers,
    Cheehc

    1) 3,654,791,579

    2) $0.14

    3) No

    4) $250 Ice Climbers, $250 Chantodo's Will, $250 Triumvirate, $250 Mempo of Twilight, $250 Witching Hour, $250 Lacuni Prowlers, etc.

    5) AH is a side game. I play it out of occasional necessity.

    6) Campers and snipers win. Those with patience in general will win. In other words, those who are unemployed in real life and enjoy stalking items on the AH will beat out people who actually play the game. I am employed and I don't have time to camp the AH. I have buddies who camp for me ;)

    1) 500+ mil
    2) 0.4 eur
    3) No
    4) 250 eur (=211.6 to paypal)
    5) Yes, but losing interest in it over time. I enjoy it less with each patch.
    6) Win a bid by bidding once just for tracking and wait for the auction to be nearly over. Set an alarm if it's an important item. In the last 3 mins filter out the item again in the first AH tab and only bid in the last 3 seconds. Have multiple bids running at all times (20, 30, ....100)

    1) 9,877,266,257
    2) 86€ (still from when I didn't have a cellphone to get it to my paypal account, lol .. :[)
    3) No
    4) Just recently sniped a lovely Stone of Jordan for Bell-Monks, which was a little over 30 million and sold it on the RMAH for 250€ (Kinda funny considering it already was in the GAH for over 4 hours when I bought it)
    5) Well, I don't really like it, but I have to play the Ah quite a lot, 'cause it's just so much more effective than the actual playing, if you're looking for either money or possible upgrades to your char.
    6) Items that aren't easily trackable on the AH have some awesome chances of giving huge profit. There's a couple of Skill-Affixes on Stones of Jordans for example that can't be filtered in the AH and they usually sell huge (like Wave of Light). People who find those times possibly don't know the prices, put them in the AH cheap and you have a chance of sniping them.

Can I borrow some of your buddies? They seem like they have done a good job for you so far.
I am also employed and have a wife and 2 boys under 2... So the chances of me having the time to snipe items...ha.

Seems like you 3 have all made a lot of gold and 1 or more $250 sales.. awesome.

Can I ask you 3 some more questions..
    1) How much time do you think you have spent on the AH's since release?
    2) Have you played continuously since D3 release or had long breaks?
    3) Are you a student, employed or neither? If employed -what do you do? Or if a student - what do you study?
    4) Do you do any other trading or play betting games? Eg FOREX, blackjack or have sold items on other games before?

    1) Probably a little over 150 hours total. There's certain peak-times for both selling and sniping imo, so you're often making a lot of profit from knowing those times. Apart fromt hose, I just randomly do my basic searching routine and check whether there's something underpriced listed. Oh, and the "omg so much money"-gold-numbers people often find so awesome, aren't as fancy as they seem to the most casual players, I think. Having multiple billions of gold (like 3-10) on your account doesn't really mean you could buy anything you wanted (which I often read in public chat). That's like one potential upgrade for a well-equipped char. Inflation is increasing so absurdly fast that it's really not as big of a deal. Having had a nice starting bankroll before 1.0.7 hit (which is when I believe the inflation just made a huge leap forward) just put you in a nice position to start playing the AH easily and increasing your gold-count at similiar rate. With little money to begin with, it's just awfully hard to start making money off AH-playing.

    2) Didn't really take a break, but I wouldn't really say that I'm really playing continuously either. When I'm in the mood of playing, I do. When I don't feel like sitting at the pc, I don't. Best thing about non-subscription-based games. You never feel like you have to play to not have wasted your subscription fee.

As for 3) and 4), I don't really see what's the point in those questions. You should probably have asked for an estimated online-time or something like that for question no. 3, 'cause I think that's what you're interested in - or should be for that matter. It's not like you need any academic degree to be able to play effectively or whatever and the "unemployed have more playtime"-argument doesn't really play any role in that question either, because just having the time to spend, doesn't automatically mean you do. I'd just change the wording of those two questions. Feels like I'm doing a survey rather than discussing possible tips about playing the AH.

edit: Another tip just came to my mind which I forgot to put in my first post ( it doesn't really belong to the AH, but I'll just post it anyways x) ). I'm not entirely sure whether it's applicable to the US Servers, but on the EU-Servers there are like "set" prices on Unidentified Legendaries among the different communities - "different" as in: not speaking the same language - which I accidently found out after changing the client-language. I started switching the language from time to time asking for some unid. items to buy in the trade chat and then either sell or identify them later.

    1) How much gold do you currently have? - 4.2billion
    2) How much Blizzard Account money do you have? - $237
    3) Have you ever deposited real money? - Nope
    4) What has been your best ever sale? - Sold a single item for 1.2billion
    5) Do you like/enjoy the AH meta game? - Yes
    6) Do you have any good tips to give about the AH’s?

Buy small and sell big. Don't forget to make time to farm though. Playing the game is primary for me and the AH game is second. I have sold nearly equally the same number of items on the AH that I have found in game as I have found flipping.
